My Father was the officer in charge of the Light House , I lived there too in 1957 & the Island is full of rabbits , we ate a lot of rabbit . I remember riding the Ferry, beautiful ride‼️ Thank you for refreshing my memories 👍

It's a bit unnerving your first time taking the Washington State Ferry isn't it, but there is nothing to it as long as you don't bang your car into the side of the boat or drive into the water. Also you need to allow room to crack your door open and get out so you can go up on deck and take in the view. Half the fun of going to the San Juan Islands is just getting there. Like a mini cruise.

How stops between Anacortes and Friday harbor? Does the ferry stop on any other island before reaching Friday harbor? I just wanted to make sure that I don't get out on the wrong island.
It is very difficult to get out on the wrong island. When you get to Anacortes, you tell the deck crew which island you are headed for. They will assign you a lane, and that lane only contains cars headed to that island. Plus, when you are about to get off the ferry, there will be an announcement indicating which island you are arriving at. If it is not your island, you simply stay on the passenger deck.
Yes, there are same day return ferry's. Everyone has to disembark upon arrival. Example if you walked on: If you do not want to wait for a later return ferry, after you have disembarked, you simply get in the boarding line to return. Your ticket is a roundtrip ticket, no need to purchase another one.

No, you cannot just stay on the ferry. However, you can get off and then get in line for the next sailing to head back, provided there is space.
