  • The Thrustmaster ESWAP XR PRO CONTROLLER FORZA HORIZON 5 EDITION is a new video game gamepad that features, wait for it, a miniature steering wheel!
Yes, a small-scale steering wheel on a controller, which is said to help those without the space or budget for a full-size steering wheel peripheral gain an extra sense of control.
We tested it with Forza Horizon 5, naturally as its design is officially themed around the Microsoft open-world racer, but also with BeamNG.drive and Need for Speed Unbound. It works for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S and is wired-only.
Also, as its an ESWAP device, you can switch out various components and move the steering wheel into different locations.

I am confused as how no company has released an updated RC style controller for racing games. I can remember way back when there were multiple types available for different systems (PC, Playstation, NES, etc). I think the pistol type were the best. Hold in left hand, had a trigger for accelerating ang braking. Have a wheel with 180 degrees of motion. As well as multiple buttons that could be programmed. The most intuitive way to play these types of games in a handheld device. I think this would be a gold mine if someone made today. I can continue to dream.

Or if Namco brought back the NeGcon or JoGcon(with forced feedback), I have one on the Playstation called the Performance Ultra Racer in the style of an old paddle controller with the wheel on top, trigger at the bottom, and 2 analog face buttons on top like the NeGcon I think they also made one for N64 that has the same design, it's really ergonomic like the traditional pistol grip rc controller, I believe some modern rc transmitters can be hooked up to PC nowadays through a port on them to play VRCPRO or other driving games with some tinkering

Right? As an RC racer, I loved those old RC like controllers.
Seems like a no brainer for a racing game. Might be tricky to position other buttons, but no impossible.

And the perfect game for a device like this would be trackmania. Both precise and arcady, that requires a controller both comfortable and "sweaty" and can justify most price ranges since the game is made to be played for thousand of hours.

Steering wheel setups are always going to be a far better experience than pads for racing simulator games. It's mainly the limited space I had and sometimes long tuning/setup time that made me grow tired of them. I wish there was an affordable half decent 180 wheel FF and rear pedal triggers on a controller pad so I can get back into it easier.

Some games has a driving component in addition to doing other things which would normally use the keyboard (on the PC) or a regular controller. Switching between the keyboard and a full size wheel setup is quite inconvenient.
Think My Summer Car for example. You want to use a driving setup every now and then but mostly you control the game with the keyboard. A small wheel-like controller would be much more practical.

Public service announcement. The racing module does not only work for the large controller. I ordered the smaller one the E swap S and it is compatible!!!
Thank God the X pro was just a little too big for me plus the E swap S weighs less.
They don’t explicitly say that it works for the smaller controller in the advertising but it does!!! So that’s a big mistake on their part! Happy customer though! As a disabled gamer, this is the closest thing I will get to a steering wheel until one of these manufacturers, put gas and brake paddle shifters. In addition to shifting paddles on one steering wheel . Essentially 4 paddles thus mitigating the use of using feet. Get on it!

If the wheel module had literally any vector for force feedback rather than a linear spring it would be an instant buy. Technically you do have more granular control over the small steering corrections. But thats it. For actual wheel control this would need to be a free spin connected to a motor that ca be calibrated like a wheel, Which they could do. But this is little more than a gimmick and can be nearly simulated by roll up steering on a thumbstick.

You really do miss the second analogue stick, games like Horizon and NFS which heavily rely on movement around the map are badly affected. At least with replacing the D-Pad, you don't lose functionality of the game as you have the buttons on the back. Either way, not ideal! I wish the steering wheel would also move as a whole unit up down left right, seperately from the rotation, but there must be a reason this isn't the case!

    • @Parker--

"I wish the steering wheel would also move as a whole unit up down left right, seperately from the rotation, but there must be a reason this isn't the case!"
I would bet it would lack the rigidity that it would constantly move while trying to rotate the wheel.
The software should allow you to set left bumper so that holding it changes functionality of the stick into dpad input and then move clutch to the top left grip button or move shift up and shift down to the top two grip buttons (to emulate paddle shifters) and put clutch on X or B.

This doesn’t make any sense…this controller is more expensive than some of their starter wheel kits like the 488 gtb with pedals…$130 on Amazon…this is $180. I’m so glad I abandoned this crap company for real sim racing gear. This is actually a joke

I probably would grab one of those if it had force feedback like this guy had for the PS1 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jogcon

Can someone with a disability get a benefit out of this? My hands can use a regular controller but I’ve never used anything close to a wheel. I can not however use a full set up with pedals @TraxionGG
