Concorde was taxing about 75 m away to turn with her engines towards us. "Cover your ears, cover your ears!!!!" people shouted. I'm glad I did! Still not sure they have ever been the same! 1,350MPH....(1,980fps) That's roughly the speed of a 110gr bullet fired from an M1 .30 Carbine. Whereas a bullet is a solid mass that easily stays together in flight, the Concorde is a large object made of thousands of riveted parts and also manages to stay together at the same speed. Engineering is incredible.
While I agree the Concorde was awesome, comparing it’s structural integrity to a bullet is a stretch. Internet searches say the never exceed speed (Vne) is 585 knots (670 mph). In other words, at sea level the Concorde can only go 670 mph. Think about Vne like a limit on how rapidly the air molecules can impact the aircraft (let’s just say it’s 585 molecules per minute). At 60,000 feet altitude, the air molecules are spaced farther apart. Therefore, with that same limit of 585 molecules per minute, the aircraft will be traveling faster across the ground (compared to sea level) but it “feels the same” to the airframe because the molecules are spaced farther apart. A different way of comparing is if there were 2 aircraft, both flying 585 knots indicated airspeed….one aircraft at sea level and one aircraft at 60,000 feet. The sea level aircraft is in much thicker air and will have a much slower ground speed as compared to the aircraft at 60,000 feet. Comparing apples to apples….at sea level the M1 bullet is 1,350 mph and the Concorde is 670 mph. That’s still really fast for an airliner though.
WOW ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL amounts of information the Captains, and Co-Polite are sharing, simply amazing. I love how you explain the navigation and everything else that goes with flying at those heights, and speeds!
Very interesting documentary! I saw Concorde just once in Heathrow when I sat in a Swissair Airbus A310 to fly back home to Switzerland. But Concorde gave me goosebumps and I love to remember this moment. 🤩✈️👍🏼
In the sixties I lived in West Gloucestershire 600ft above sea level. My first memory is of Concorde crossing the River Severn toward our house and turning for the return trip, probably to Fairford or Filton. The noise was more than deafening, the house vibrated and the ground shook. No decals and probably before noise suppression. Later I moved to London where Concorde overflew our house every day en route to Heathrow. On it's last flight I took my camera into the garden to get a final shot but the route was extended to allow more people to get a view of this wonderful aircraft. I missed a good shot. Previously we also heard sonic booms as Concorde flew up the Channel en route to Charles de Gaulle, a route that was also changed to relieve our eardums. Great days passed for ever from this crazy world.
Nothing’s ever come come close to her. She was the cutting edge. The edge of what is possible. Thank you for 27 years of Mach 2. “No bumps. No bangs-Concorde”
I remember seeing her flying overhead at 6.30 pm every evening in my late teens. Was always a beautiful thing to behold. Everything seems to have gotten slower even Golf Gti's by engine size comparisons.....we're going backwards as alluded to earlier......so sad. Also to note that Concorde was developed before the calculator had been invented......THINK ABOUT THAT......how clever were these guys!!
Amazing video of an amazing airplane. It was great to see New York pre-911 skyline and the what was the Pan Am building who employed me at JFK flight control for years always so amazing to watch this very unique aircraft takeoff and land so many times ! RIP Concorde ! Everyone in aviation misses you! Great video!
+soaringtractor - Not true. The reason Concorde was retired had nothing to do with the aircraft itself, it was simply no longer economically viable for Airbus (the successor to Sud Aviation/Aerospatiale) to produce spares for such a small fleet of aircraft - and this was made harder by the problems that arose during the development of the A380. The downturn in aviation following the terror attacks in September 2001 was the final nail in the coffin.

Gorgeous bird. Used to work for air freight companies in Colnbrook in the 80s and always set my car alarm off with her noise on reheats. What a sight though on take off at 200 feet....
Years ago the Concorde flew into Harrisburg International Airport on a promotional flight. Before landing the pilot took her over the Susquehanna River and over Harrisburg, where he banked sharply to come back to the field. The bank was so sharp the passengers on one side had to be looking straight down out their windows, whilst the other side could see nothing but sky! Many times we would see her fly over our house after taking off from Dulles, there was no mistaking that beautiful slim fuselage and the delta wing configuration. What a tragic end she came to after 30 years of faithful service, watching that video of the wounded Concorde trying to gain altitude is a sobering experience, may the crew and everyone on her that fateful day rest in peace. It'd be great to see an updated one fly again....
I really love and appreciate that this wonderful aircraft has all analog instrumentation and avionics. Love the fact that the flight plan was paper hardcopy not digital screen
I have actually been on board G-BOAC at Manchester AIRPORT, where her home is since the last flight. I really do miss seeing Concorde in the air, and hope that one day she might return, but I very much doubt it. it's just a shame that such a complicated fastest aircraft in the world should be in a museum... Unreal being abroad her... So so beautiful... Xxx
Lol, me too. Just watched the other documentary and grinned at watching him as the co-pilot smile at "sticks down" after landing. On this show here he is in the Captain's throne. 8oD
The next Concorde will be quieter and badass. trust me, it's coming because one reason... people want it. NO airline is special like the Concorde line of planes... it will happen.
I love this. I remember back in the 70s going to JFK to watch them take off. You could feel the rumble right through your chest. As a bonus... we often got a take off of an Aeroflot IL-62 which although not supersonic was indeed a strikingly beautiful plane with a powerful rumble on takeoff.
Very interesting video and an amazing aircraft still to this day. I desperately want to see another supersonic passenger aircraft in the future. Flying one would be amazing, but settling for seeing an operational SST would suffice.
The most beautiful plane of all time and every time i am sure if they start this concord again people will fly for sure to get to places fast. Just a beautiful machine.
What an incredible bird she was. That roar from the reverse thrust on landing was amazing. I remember watching and hearing one take off from Paris and being blown away at the sheer noise of the thing. It got my attention because it sounded like nothing else I’d ever seen or heard.
I was a lucky, lucky girl. I flew on Concorde many times...thanks to contacts from my “Pa”. He loved her as much as me. It was an utter privilege to fly on her, and I never, ever took it for granted. I remember flying back from Barbados on my last flight before she was grounded. I was in tears, along with all the cabin crew. The most incredible aircraft, second only to the Spitfire. Happy days
Wow, the Delco carousel. In it's day it was the Workhorse. Standard equipment in the seven four seven even 19 69. But this film is sure fun to go back in time and enjoy. Well done Mike Bannister and Chris Norris.
Truly an extraordinary aircraft. This Yank says hats off to all who put her and kept her in the sky. What a shame this beautiful piece of technology has been resigned to sitting in museums with no successor. Of all the aircraft in the world this would still be my pick to fly on if only once. Just curious if it was always ‘air started’, in other words did it lack an A.P.U.? Also curious how many pounds of fuel on board for LHR-JFK flight? As for those who partially blame the USA for her demise I would offer this response. No airline be it US or otherwise was ever going to be allowed to fly coast to coast supersonic. I was a child in the sixties but remember the hell the US Air Force caught when they would create sonic booms. I grew up close to a base with B-58s and recall the occasional booms clearly. They broke windows in my school a few times. At any rate well done my British and French friends, well done.
I know how you feel I remember the sonic booms from a airbase close to where I live with bombers I live close to Rapid city and miss seeing the bombers now Concorde was an awesome plane wish I could of flown in her😥❤✈👍
An APU was not needed as they would only fly to major airfields which would have the required equipment. (They needed a minimum runway length of 6,000 ft and regularly used more).
87,000kg for JFK to LON with 100 pax. Max fuel was 95,500kg. Also no APU, it needed a ground power unit until it started the inboard engines, on pushback the bleed air was used to start the other two engines. Concorde failed for one reason, Air France and Airbus both pulled out on the project in 2002. BA wanted to fly to 2010, but airbus wouldn’t supply parts anymore as they were focusing on the A380 project.
The finest and most beautiful aircraft ever designed........ and it was designed by some clever blokes with some pencils, paper and some hand models in a wind tunnel. 🇬🇧🇫🇷✌✌
I can remember one occasion, in Concorde's early days, going to a First Division football match (shows how long ago it was) when one flew over. The whole match literally stopped. Nothing that has flown since remotely approaches the sight of a Concorde in the sky.
OMG She used to fly past my window over the Thames 17:17 every night like clockwork with all the grace and deportment of a flying Swan. Brings cold shivers still, and what madness and futility clipped her wings and brought her to her knees?
I don't own it. To be honest I am amazed there hasn't been a copyright strike against me. For what it's worth I don't mind if you use any parts you like :)
Seeing the backdrop of Concorde against Bunratty Castle in my native Ireland is something rather special, given Captain Sir Mike Bannister’s test flights of Concorde between Heathrow & Shannon Airports, quite close to the old flying boat base at Foynes in Co Limerick on the River Shannon - and Concorde has even landed in Dublin at one point too 🇮🇪☘️🇬🇧❤️
Seeing and hearing Concorde in person was always huge experience - lots of airports slowed down operations to watch the ship depart. How sad that almost 30 years later, we are flying SLOWER than we should be by now. The Concorde to me, represented a transition aircraft that should have brought about hypersonic travel in the 90s.
Many years ago, maybe about 35? I lived in England with my boys. We very often used to visit Greenwich Park, and we occasionally caught sight of Concord! She was 'rather loud', but we were all absolutely in awe of this amazing 'flying bird'! The terrible catastrophic events of the crash in Paris were devastating😢 But I can't, however, get my head around the fact that now in 2023, there's been no 'enviromentally friendly', with modern, fuel saving technology, and a customer friendly version of her up and running? Please let me know!
How about Phil Collins playing Wembley and then later that evening Philly for Live Aid 85. Couldn’t have been possible without Concorde. Oh how good were the 80’s
Yes ! Had just found out about this recently, and to find Phil's drawing about this at the Filton museum (where, most importantly, a Concorde resides) was nice
very funny, but please be aware no water from the septic tank is ever dumped in any airliner. I cant say the same for the water used in the galley, or any sink. so might just be that.
I lived in the DC area for a long time........ Sunday afternoons when out and about about 1pm used to regularly see the Concorde circling to approach Dulles. In the 70s I was hitchhiking in the UK and got picked up by a rolls Royce engineer with engine parts in the back seat he was taking to a testing lab He was like a Concorde evangelist.. told me all kind of stuff in two hours.. was really fascinating

Comparing apples to apples….at sea level the M1 bullet is 1,350 mph and the Concorde is 670 mph. That’s still really fast for an airliner though.
I remember when the Concord flew to Jamaica 🇯🇲 and the noise during takeoff lol
I grew up near Heathrow, and I still miss standing in the street watching Concorde roar over head, leaving a trail of car alarms in her wake!
You sure do get around Evie!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
WOW ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL amounts of information the Captains, and Co-Polite are sharing, simply amazing. I love how you explain the navigation and everything else that goes with flying at those heights, and speeds!
Can't believe she stopped flying almost 11 years ago. It was an honor to have been scared out of my wits as you tore past me on the Heathrow runway.
OhHiMark now 15 years :(
Almost 19 now. Wow remember it well
Very interesting documentary! I saw Concorde just once in Heathrow when I sat in a Swissair Airbus A310 to fly back home to Switzerland. But Concorde gave me goosebumps and I love to remember this moment. 🤩✈️👍🏼
These legendary pilots made history in aviation.
Flying on Concorde was a dream i had as a kid in the early 80's, sadly that dream never came true, sad that i had no more dreams.
What an engineering triumph, achieved by men with pencils and slide rules. Much praise to all involved.
I wish i was alive then to see one
Nothing’s ever come come close to her. She was the cutting edge. The edge of what is possible. Thank you for 27 years of Mach 2. “No bumps. No bangs-Concorde”
I travelled twice on Concorde.
JFK-LHR
LHR-JFK
Went into the cockpit on the first trip. Incredible!
Twice also and the one and only Concorde to Jamacia
Yeah sure ya did
I really mis her gracing the skies
I miss this aircraft more than words can fully describe
Can you imagine after being a pilot of Concorde than have to fly a not so expressive aircraft would be like?😥💖✈
I would imagine at that point in their careers they were very close to retirement anayways.
The most beautiful commercial airplane ever constructed. Period.

Dear Richard Branson
Could you please buy a Concorde and put it in service. It would look so beautiful in your Virgin Atlantic livery.
Richard knows, he's often said he wanted to do this, and in fact approached air France, to see if he could get one. Sadly, they said no.
@@turricanedtc3764 OK so why don't they sell it then if you insist they're fine. The reality is that they're unstable, that's why. Nobody asked you for a history check. Keep your bias to yourself.
@@bikerboy3k Airbus decided that it wasn't economically viable to continue to act as Design Authority. It was also expensive to run (BA were making a profit but Air France weren't). I don't know where you heard that it was unstable, but that's nonsense.

Back in the Summer of 1975, I took my first flight overseas to Spain; loved it! But, as wonderful as that was, IF I'd only known "what was to come", I would have instead saved up to "Fly aboard The Concorde"!! Wow, oh wow...
what a thrill that would have been to cross the Atlantic ... at Supersonic Speed!!!
At 0:58 "Just Taking My Concorde For A Walk"
Sipping champagne,at60,000ft,at 1350mph is the stuff
I used to live in Brooklyn NYC and every evening I used to see Concorde flying towards JFK beautiful looking aircraft,,now the noise abatement procedure a bit ridiculous you got people in NYC driving around with loud ass boom boxes lol

So the highest person on the planet would be Snoop Dogg in a Concorde?
Felix Baumgartner: "Hold my Red Bull."
None of these flew between 2001 and 2003 so Concorde passengers in these years in fact were the highest people around (although if someone was on ISS they weren't but I don't know if there were people on ISS at that time)
@@herrhornbuckele5227 not true u2 was and still is in service the myth busters adam savage went up in one in 2014 I believe but the u2 definitely was still active in the 2010s
@@spenceradams2908 whoops, mistook it for production time. It's still active even today. The interesting question is if one was up when they said they're the highest people on the planet.
Hard to believe she did come to central pa
Very sad. But not because of the big girl's reliability. Coming in to land gear and nose down looked so elegant.
What a glorious achievement this aircraft was. Incredible travesty that it is no longer.
Congratulations Captain Norris!👍
I really love and appreciate that this wonderful aircraft has all analog instrumentation and avionics. Love the fact that the flight plan was paper hardcopy not digital screen
Hahaha
Bring back the concord into full service. This generation and future generation need to experience it.
i miss the concorde
I have actually been on board G-BOAC at Manchester AIRPORT, where her home is since the last flight. I really do miss seeing Concorde in the air, and hope that one day she might return, but I very much doubt it. it's just a shame that such a complicated fastest aircraft in the world should be in a museum... Unreal being abroad her... So so beautiful... Xxx
I saw Concorde when it came to New Zealand 🇳🇿 and did circles over Auckland. I was then and still am gobsmacked at the brilliance of Concorde. ⚘❤✈
i was watching another concorde documentary and came here. İn other video, Chris norris was the flight officer. And in this one he is captain :)
I just commented on the same thing loll From luxury to a cardboard box lol.
Not Chuck Norris?
Exactly. It's a BBC Special from 1989.
Lol, me too. Just watched the other documentary and grinned at watching him as the co-pilot smile at "sticks down" after landing.
On this show here he is in the Captain's throne. 8oD
He was in luck to be first officer in cockpit with capt.John Hutchinson, legend of Concorde
2019.... the sky should be full of these.
yes and pollute the whole world
@@FrancescoBellringer Its the noise and cost to run that grounded it.
The next Concorde will be quieter and badass. trust me, it's coming because one reason... people want it. NO airline is special like the Concorde line of planes... it will happen.
Lol if ya want no ozone layer then go all out
@methyl jepeny actually the Russians did most of the work not the yanks
Maan I am a B777 pilot, love it so much but this is the only plane I'm envy! :D Those crew who flew it are very lucky people :)
How I feel about the DC-9
Still is the best passenger plane EVER. Nothing will beat Concorde!
Absolutely incredible piece of engineering. Timeless
Concorde,QE2,125 train.....back then Britain made some of the best things on earth....
Very interesting video and an amazing aircraft still to this day. I desperately want to see another supersonic passenger aircraft in the future. Flying one would be amazing, but settling for seeing an operational SST would suffice.
My favorite aircraft. Amazing documentary!
The most beautiful plane of all time and every time i am sure if they start this concord again people will fly for sure to get to places fast. Just a beautiful machine.
Awesome video of the greatest aircraft ever thank you for the amazing video 😍✈❤💖👍
My pleasure.
What an incredible bird she was. That roar from the reverse thrust on landing was amazing. I remember watching and hearing one take off from Paris and being blown away at the sheer noise of the thing. It got my attention because it sounded like nothing else I’d ever seen or heard.
Kickass!!! I was in there with those guys! It ended too soon. I could have watched the whole flight

Love the 80' montage music 🎶
A bit like the music they'd have played alongside an RAF recruitment film back then. "Take to the air, for I want to be a pilot!".
Concorde on a flight from London to New York would use around 5,600 gallons per hour, 'Thirsty Lady'! :)
A peak in beauty and performance. Magic.
Most beautiful and advanced plane ever....
Most beautiful plane ever made!!!

@@ianmaw66 ok thanks!
Never was a man so passionate about something as Cpt Mike Bannister is!👌🏻
Seeing the backdrop of Concorde against Bunratty Castle in my native Ireland is something rather special, given Captain Sir Mike Bannister’s test flights of Concorde between Heathrow & Shannon Airports, quite close to the old flying boat base at Foynes in Co Limerick on the River Shannon - and Concorde has even landed in Dublin at one point too 🇮🇪☘️🇬🇧❤️
Seeing and hearing Concorde in person was always huge experience - lots of airports slowed down operations to watch the ship depart.
How sad that almost 30 years later, we are flying SLOWER than we should be by now. The Concorde to me, represented a transition aircraft that should have brought about hypersonic travel in the 90s.
Was lucky to see it and hear its wonderful noise when it flew over Shepperton where I lived in the late 80s
Wish I could’ve flown on Concorde. The most beautiful airplane ever built 🇦🇺
A great video a great airplane. Congratulations from Venezuela.
Many years ago, maybe about 35? I lived in England with my boys.
We very often used to visit Greenwich Park, and we occasionally caught sight of Concord!
She was 'rather loud', but we were all absolutely in awe of this amazing 'flying bird'!
The terrible catastrophic events of the crash in Paris were devastating😢
But I can't, however, get my head around the fact that now in 2023, there's been no 'enviromentally friendly', with modern, fuel saving technology, and a customer friendly version of her up and running?
Please let me know!
History. All gone. Very sad.
excellent upload thank you!!!
Cpt Brian Walpole gave me a personal one 2 one guided tour of this particular Concorde in 1982 at Heathrow.
1:36 - 'Will passengers please refrain from flushing the toilet whilst the aeroplane is on the ground!' LOL
Even Concorde needs to take a piss........
very funny, but please be aware no water from the septic tank is ever dumped in any airliner. I cant say the same for the water used in the galley, or any sink. so might just be that.
Its like watching a dog trying to swiftly squat to mark its territory.
Just absolutely amazing! Brilliant!
“Built to be the best, she flew above the rest”
Concorde! What a marvel of aviation. Sad I never flew in you. Hopes another SST come on board soon..
I used to listen on hf radio to Concord talking to Shannon as it arrived into the UK every evening.
I flew on Concorde once from LHR to Kennedy back in 2000. They say it's one class of service, however it really it really is 2 classes. Concorede frequent fliers and celebrities are seated ahead of the bulkhead, every one else is seated behind the bulkhead.
