This song has some of my absolute favorite lyrics. I think I love it so much because I often DON'T feel like God alone "is my heart's desire" and I often DON'T "long to worship" Him. I often let other things take priority and at the end of the day I think "wow, I didn't make any time to just talk or sit with God today." And then I feel guilty for doing anything if I'm not praying or reading the Bible. But I think it's a lie to think that the only "godly" things are praying and reading the Bible. If Paul said "whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31) then that implies we can glorify God even in the little mundane things we do every day. That's both a relief and a challenge at the same time. It means I don't have to feel guilty for spending time working, doing chores, doing homework, or spending time with family because that too can glorify God. But it also means that when I'm doing those things, when I'm helping customers at work, I should do it all with joy and PATIENCE and LOVE so that when I interact with others maybe they'll feel God's love through me. Anyway, I'm so grateful for this song and its lyrics that remind me that God is not just someone we have to obey, but He is also "my Friend, my Brother, even though He is The King." When I remember that, I actually want to worship Him again ❤
