So sorry to hear about Dolly. May she rest in peace. Though I love the educational information and history I learn from your videos, my partner's favourite parts were always when Dolly would pop up on screen.
I’m so very sorry for your devastating loss of Dolly your dog. Ste looked such a loyal and loving dog to you. It’s so sad when we lose our pets as we seem to always outlive them. Thank you Dolly for sharing the history of Hobart with us all. I hope you get another dog when you’re ready to share you life with such a great friend and companion they truely are to us!! Best wishes to ❤Dolly Dog❤ always xxx
I'm just watching this video for the first time. I'm so sorry about Dolly. I'm glad you did get another little companion, Angus. I'm shocked at how many cemeteries were built over. I am Tasmanian but have lived in Western Australia for 30 years now. Often visited home, though, and spent a year living near Hobart and nursing at the hospital in the early 2000s. I regret not exploring the area more while there. Thank you for your wonderful content. Makes me a bit homesick ❤
I’ve found in my 67 years of life experience that one way to gauge a person is to watch how they relate to our four legged family members. Dolly’s connection to you was with love and trust, it’s wonderful that you both had time together. She’s been a delightful part of your wonderful presentations and an affirmation of the exceptional person you are. Your new pup looks equally special with a strong connection and friendship already evident…
Only recently started watching your documentaries, and literally only subscribed half an hour before this comment, but I would like to say your videos are educational, entertaining, and have shown me more about my old home of Hobart than I knew. Thank you for your work, and thank you for giving Dolly a wonderful couple of final years.
Yes , I know what the loss of a loyal put is like , I lost my 2 Chihuahuas few years ago , ( Mitch & Mitshi ) , they were ever so loyal and loving they both live in my heart , "Forever"!
So glad Dolly had you as her last owner. They are precious creatures. I did notice the no dog present in this video. And wondered . . . .seemed appropriate to share information about some of Hobart's cemeteries. So many seem to fall in disrepair. Interesting that I've driven over some graves in the Glenorchy one . . .
RIP Dolly. I had no idea of the size of the Queenborough cemetery. One of The founders of Australian Federation and co-writer of our constitution was buried there! Andrew Inglis-Clark. He’s also known for the Hare-Clark voting system. His memorial is still there near the corner of Peal St and Nelson Rd.
It's quite shocking how disrespectful towards the dead, governments of the past were...Fairly new to your channel mate, and love your work. So sorry about your pup that I've only just come to know recently - you gave her a lovely, loving final chapter, in her book of life...She too, is now resting, in peace. ❤️
Just started watching your videos and loved the way Dolly appeared and now so sad to hear of her passing; I hope you are not feeling too bad, Angus; You seem like a kind and thoughtful person.
Thank you Angus for your unique take on a very intriguing part of Australia. Tassie has always been for me, that other part of Australia that held a deeper mystery as compared to my childhood home of Sydney.
Another fascinating video. Thanks for your insights and everything you do. Condolences for your loss. Dolly was a gorgeous pooch and it'll be sad to not see her in your future videos. All the best mate.
Hey Angus, what a wonderful tribute to Dolly. It touched me hearing about the companionship you had with your fur baby. 🐾 They are truely natures gift to us. I enjoyed this episode about the hidden Cemeteries and I am sure Melbourne has its fare share. I have walked through the Old Hobart's cemetery a couple of times and found it quite interesting hearing your spiel about the place. Well done Angus, I am enjoying your channel very much.
Sorry to here about Dolly, sad to lose a loved pet. We lost our lab Molly late last year. I loved all the videos with your little dog, she added a lot to their charm.
The closure of cemeteries, graveyards & the sale of churches is indeed a sad part of Australian history. Unfortunately, the remains of those buried there often 'reappear' many years later when new construction occurs. I think we owe it to those who have gone, to at least have their death details recorded & preserved for posterity & to allow genealogists & family historians to do their ancestral research. Sadly, many deaths were not recorded, details can often be incorrect & exact locations within the grounds are often unknown. And, some never got a headstone nor a plaque. 😢
Love your videos, you always teach me facinating things about the town I've lived in my whole life. Very sorry to hear about Dolly, she will be missed by all your viewers I'm sure. I feel your pain, a dog is an amazing friend and companion.
Thanks for your time and effort you put into these videos mate I would love to buy you a beer and talk for hours, I'm sorry to hear about dolly passing your videos with her were always refreshing but glad to see you haven't let it stop you doing what your clearly great at. I personally have 2 of my dogs I've had the pleasure of knowing burried in my yard, but you saying that has definitely made me think the place I live in was built in the 60s so they probably aren't alone. Please keep doing these videos man they are great 🤙
Thanks Angus, this was the first of your videos that appeared in my TH-cam feed. I was immediately taken by the image because about 20 years ago, my bedroom looked across at your cover image. I felt that I just had to watch it again and comment this time. I will never forget that place, (I suppose that most people wouldn't forget seeing headstones from their bedroom window). I was fascinated and a little bit spooked by them, as I could only guess at the time that the area had once been a large old cemetery there. As it turns out the cemetery had a somewhat checkered history too. I'm a fairly skeptical person, but bad luck seemed to dog all whom lived in that house. Weird.
We've got 3 rescues. Two we found covered in ticks in the far north of WA, and another we got from bright side the day before she was headed off. I echo your sentiment, not their first owner but extremely glad to be their last.
A lot of my relatives are buried in Tassie. Including two ancestors who died in The Great war (one named George was in the second landing at Gallipoli). My brother and my parents are buried in Hobart somewhere. Lots of aunties and uncles as well. Your Dolly was lucky to have you for a human.
I lived in the Harrington Street Apartments in the late 80's, before the newer apartments were built. I was told by a friend that her uncle took some of the bodies away in the back of a Holden Station wagon. I can't remember which cemetery they were taken to.
I grew up in the Hobart area and am loving these videos, incredibly interesting. Keep it up! I remember doing a study in school on a man who's gravestone lies in that garden in Peel Street. Can't remember who though. Sorry to hear about Dolly. I grew up in Snug south of Hobart and buried a couple of cats and my first dog in the garden there, RIP
I feel some kinda way about the events that go on at St. David’s park these days, spreading out a picnic blanket to enjoy Christmas carols with the family seems somewhat disrespectful to me, can’t help but wonder who we were sitting on in the process…. Side note- love these videos ♥️ RIP Dolly
@@angusthornett Yep she's with a dog named Otto now. Really like your videos mate and your unique style. It's good someone is keeping our history alive.
I really enjoyed this tale when it was first released and regret only now catching up to tell you. I’ll look for this when I am next in Hobart, in November.
Just wanted to mention St Andrew’s Park at the rear of 49 Patrick st North Hobart. Another colonial cemetery now gone but with original headstones lining the entrance from Patrick street. 49 Patrick St was a Maternity Home which was one of many across Australian cities in the early 20th century where local expectant mothers were cared for by a midwives. The original building (can be seen from the park) is convict construction with a modern addition in front probably added around 1910 -1920…
Thank you very much, Sarah. That's quite generous of you. Your donation will help to allow me to make more content. Appreciate it. Hope you enjoy the other vids too. This particular one was quite hard to make but it was important to me.
Can you do a piece on Hobart's hidden tip sites? I've heard of kangaroo Bay, Montrose Bay and the original Baretta site (where they used to dump straight into the water 😳😳) Another great video!👏👏👏
so the bodies were exhumed... thank jesus. i was thinking the corpse will be underneath the ground still.. would be like the amityville hauntings or poltergeist where in that movie the house they are living in was actually a burial ground. i'm also disappointed because that school should be haunted. Lol
I had a rescue dog “crank” bloody good dog! I felt that “ I wasn’t her first owner but I was glad to be her last” it isn’t easy loosing a best friend
So sorry to hear about Dolly. May she rest in peace. Though I love the educational information and history I learn from your videos, my partner's favourite parts were always when Dolly would pop up on screen.
Watching this again after remains were unearthed during construction on the Hutchins School grounds.

This is such a great video. Beautifully presented and genuinely interesting.
Dolly was so loved and blessed to have been with you Angus. The OG co-host who is living on in Harry xxxxx
Thank you Angus for giving Dolly a great end of life. Enjoyed your video, my grandfather was employed to remove headstones at Davey Street sadly.
