    Ase! Iya thank you for breaking down the alter so beautifully! I had a snake plant that died and I thought I failed my ancestors. I will bring them flowers as you suggested so I can always keep them fresh. Also, can I use a feather to represent wind? I am sensitive to burning tobacco.

    Great content and very informative. Question: Can I honor those who are not blood relatives but have been a significant part of my life (as family) here as well?

      Please excuse my delay. For some reason I missed your comment. Yes, you may. I have this question asked quite a bit from adoptees or have no idea about their family. You may include them. Thank you for your question.

      @iyanifashondracheris super old comment but I wanna say that i appreciate you addressing this! My mom is adopted but I was SO close to my granny and granddaddy who adopted her and I can't imagine excluding them in favor of a woman that I met once and a man that I never met (both of whom I will still include of course).

    Thank you again! I’ve been binge watching 😅
    Where would you recommend setting the altar up in the home. I’ve heard warnings against your bedroom and other places. Its why I haven’t set one up yet.

      😊My pleasure. If you can do outside your room then do so. If not, make sure to put out candle or put up items when not in use. Sexy time not respectful when there and sleep can tend to ne interrupted often. Otherwise, try a floating shelf. Some disguise on a hall entry table. Some in a closet or utility room. Just do what you can.

    Thank you for this, making some alter-rations asap. I like the maternal/paternal distinctions. Can an alter be as large as a dining table?

    • @iyanifashondracheris

      My pleasure. Thank you for watching. It can be as large or as small as you desire.

    How long should i burn the candle or should i let burn until it is finished ie 7 days?

    • @iyanifashondracheris
      @iyanifashondracheris  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can snuff it out daily and only light when you are in the space for meditation and prayer.
      Do not blow it out of possible. Use a candle snuffer or a plate or something.

      @iyanifashondracheris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My pleasure. You don't need to know them as their blood runs through you so your DNA knows them. Just say Modupe Ancestors Known and Known and go from there. They are always with you.

    Can I keep my boveda in the bedroom if I have it sectioned off with a partition?

    • @iyanifashondracheris
      @iyanifashondracheris  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From the Latin perspective it is all called such but typically outside. Just to make sure it is clear. Nonetheless, yes it is fine to do so. You may even cover with a white cloth or sheet.

    Greetings, what about an ancestor that smoked cigarettes but passed from lung cancer?

    • @iyanifashondracheris
      @iyanifashondracheris  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Understood. However, you do have ancestors that did. So you can make sure to say something that doesn't deal with the addiction of that energy. I have ancestors that passed due to alcoholism, but that doesn't stop me from using the gin or giving wine, etc. It is my understanding that addictions don't follow you to the afterlife.

    How close can an ancestor altar be to other altars in the home?
    Is it okay to create a crystal grid on the altar?

    • @iyanifashondracheris
      @iyanifashondracheris  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question. They should have their own space away from other alters.
      Crystal grids are not for the ancestors they are for heightening your senses. Remember your alter is a homage to them, not for what you like or do.

    How can you create an alter if you have a partner who doesn’t agree with your beliefs. 😢 I want to setup but I don’t want to break it down every time especially if it needs to be out for a prolonged time. Thank you.

    • @iyanifashondracheris
      @iyanifashondracheris  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is a live I just did that speaks about how to do one that you can remove and put up when you don't have space. I can't recall which one at the moment. That said, pose the question to your partner that simply asks, when you have departed do you want to be remembered?

    • @iyanifashondracheris

      Do not place any living people on your ancestor alter. Not even their names in written form. The alter is for your ancestors not you.

    why do we place glasses of water?

    • @iyanifashondracheris
      @iyanifashondracheris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Water is a natural conduit of energy and cleanses the space as well. This is the short answer. I can be long winded some times.
