    OMG I was nearly hiding under my desk while watching this! Thanks for putting yourself on the line to film it - what a totally insane storm! I was in a Santa Fe lightning storm once that was like this. I am so glad you got through it in one piece.

    Cicadas, birds, lightning, wind, rain, knock-you-out-of-bed thunder... I miss it all and you have it captured in one video. I'm rarely back in MO during the summer these days, but this video helps. Thank you.

    Here in utah, we get the craziest lightning storms. My neighbors house had been struck twice in their lawn, and we had lightning and thunder going off every second. It lasted like that for about 2 hours. O.O I woke up thinking a bomb was going off from how loud it was and the house shook!
    Thanks for the video! But be careful too :)

    I love these types of storms. I miss them. I live on the lower tip of FL and haven't see this type of storm in the 5 years I've been down here. We can hear thunder over the Everglades but it seems to miss us most of the time. Stay safe Dutch and thanks for the storm. It will make a nice going to sleep music.

      dutchsinse this winter was our worst yet, we got hit with two weather bombs and got my best video to date on the wind. Stupidly drove to the top of the glen and sat in 105mph gusts, sent the video to TORA a tornado weather forcasting service in the uk, 7 months on they still can't decide if i filmed a tornado up there or just strong gusts. All i know is I soon regretted going up there in the dark so late at night alone, we're in the middle of a heatwave at the moment which has dropped 4 tornadoes and severe thunderstorms all over including over me in the west highlands so thats me happy as larry. Im heading to St Louis next May, my aunty lives in University city, its been a life long dream to see a nado so fingers crossed I'll see one. Shes been telling me your all getting pounded with thunderstorms at the moment and one torando? Really did enjoy this video 😆 you must time your visit to the uk for January when our wind is at its strongest but nothing compared to what you get, swap weather for the day? 😊xx

      Louise Taylor We've had some bad storms in Indiana. One morning woke me up with nothing but non stop CG's. (close ones to). We lost power for a bit.

    • @peterwillymcjohnsonator7837
      @peterwillymcjohnsonator7837 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Louise Taylor Also i was fortunate enough to see lightning hit super close (i was driving). I knew it was super close because i saw the strike fizzle out (and you dont see that unless its "SUPER CLOSE")

    • @peterwillymcjohnsonator7837
      @peterwillymcjohnsonator7837 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Louise Taylor I'd like to film a tornado, but I haven't got the chance yet, last july we had over 100+ mph winds and most of the whole town lost power trees powerlines, etc down everywhere. That night the sirens went off. They said it was straight line winds, but the way the trees were picked out of the ground. It had to have been a weak EF0 EF1. Crazy!! I felt like my house was going to blow over.

    Great video, dutchsinse . I experienced storms like this when I was growing up in Ohio. Now, after 20 years in Taiwan -- I really miss this. It's exciting. I watched every second. That wussy tree that broke off was probably due to termites or rot of some kind. The wind didn't seem that strong. (It was also interesting that you "broke character" and used your probably "normal" voice instead of your reporter voice that you usually use.) At any rate, I'm a pretty long time subscriber and I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thanks.

    Just a spring shower around here. I've been in NEMO for 9 years now and can say that was mild/moderate but worth paying attention to. She can really get wound up sometimes and just when you think it couldn't possibly blow any harder, bam it blows twice as hard. The saying in Missouri is, if you don't like the weather wait 20min! It will change, better or worse.

    we had a pretty bad lightning storm in Memphis for a good hour and a half. it seemed to be going on right above where I lived. I live about 3 blocks from the river. It was freaking intense I only got like 30 mins of video from it before I was pretty much forced back inside lightening struck pretty close to me and sparks started flying off the poles across the street.

    Yes, you did almost get struck - I noticed that and marveled that you said nothing and didn't even jump back...let alone did not get hit! Anyway, I just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed this video; thank you for allowing for it to be so long...and not just some snippet. I miss those storms, actually; I use to live in Branson and that is one of the things I miss the most, if you can believe it! Many of your viewers do not get storms like this, and it is a fascinating thing to behold...really clarifies for (them) just what is meant by "severe thunderstorms". All that to say, Dutch: please feel free to make videos of this nature whenever you have this kind of weather heading in!

    I cannot believe that I'm 61 and just heard the name Delecho. I do not want it to sound like I enjoy the damage and destruction, not to mention the sadness of lives lost. Born and living in coastal N.C , I ve been thru numerous hurricanes. I ve been flooded out 3 times. The last one , basically totaled my home on Lake Wacccaw. Still I am fascinated by the power of Mother Nature when she decides to remind us she s in charge. I hope that as I write this those living on the Gulf are safe as possible during their second go around. God please be with them. While I have Him in mind , God please bless and help us in this time of need and let's gather as the greatest nation on Earth and lead this world in showing how unity, brotherhood and love has got us where we are.
    Not to leave the subject , what about naming these these Delechos?

I'm so very happy that your 150 ft. tree didn't give way to this magnificent show of God -- just put on for us. You know, this kinda puts my mind into thinking what things will look like when God pours out His wrath -- as it will be thousands of times moreover what we witnessed here. Found a neat illustration on Wikipedia about the ionosphere:
    commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ionosphere-Thermosphere_Processes.jpg
    Now, do I understand it? Not really. As I’ve said before, I’m not a scientist. I have a lot of “common sense”, but not a lot of analytical gifts.
    Here’s what windows2universe.org says about the ionosphere:
    “Scientists call the ionosphere an extension of the thermosphere. So technically, the ionosphere is not another atmospheric layer. The ionosphere represents less than 0.1% of the total mass of the Earth's atmosphere. Even though it is such a small part, it is extremely important!
    “The upper atmosphere is ionized by solar radiation. That means the Sun's energy is so strong at this level, that it breaks apart molecules. So there ends up being electrons floating around and molecules which have lost or gained electrons. When the Sun is active, more and more ionization happens!
    “Different regions of the ionosphere make long distance radio communication possible by reflecting the radio waves back to Earth. It is also home to auroras.
    “Temperatures in the ionosphere just keep getting hotter as you go up!”
    That’s what it says.
    And no, I didn’t take any science classes in high school. Or, I took “sped biology”-the bio class for the those who can’t quite retain the differences between plant, animal, and fungus. The teacher liked me, too, because I was always interested in whatever nature movies he showed-never once fell asleep in that class.
    A weird drawing of lightning:
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning#/media/File:Mikalojus_Konstantinas_Ciurlionis_-_LIGHTNING_-_1909.jpg
    See, I like stuff like that.
    That’s how loadstones were supposed to have been created-lightning strikes.

      dutchsinse wow! that was one hell of a lightning storm! almost non stop lightning, rain pouring down in sheets, wind howling...oh ya, that big tree, if it ever snaps, it will sound and feel like a 6.0 earthquake if it hits the house. i'd be watching that thing toooo. your lucky with that much lightning and hitting so close to where you are, you were taking a big risk to get this footage. brave young soul you are! :)
