A word about the oil warning light, and more pertinently, the oil sensor that fits into the side of the engine block. The standard item is set to illuminate the oil light only when the oil pressure drops very low, as in 5 p.s.i. !! It is advisable to change this switch to one that is set at 20 p.s.i., as can be obtained from the 2000/2500 club specialists. 5 p.s.i. is a rather late warning to say the very least. One can also change the water temperature gauge for a combined 'thermal' (as opposed the standard 'electrical') temperature and oil pressure gauge of a suitably matching black on chrome-edge bezel Smiths gauge. This involves fitting the thermal rod and oil tube through the bulkhead and onto the relevant areas; the oil pressure switch requiring a Tee-piece to share the oil pressure facilities of both the warning light and the gauge. On a healthy engine after a long hard and fast drive when the oil has thinned slightly and at tick-over should the pressure drop to around or near 20 p.s.i..

That's really helpful thanks very much. We subsequently fitted a higher pressure valve with a more robust spring in it that seems to have done the trick. Watch that video to see what went on. Meanwhile join us on a weekend www.arrythestag.com/saturday-sockets All the best TR T

I have driven a 1972 2500 PI and it is a beautiful car to drive. The PI system worked perfectly and the power delivery is smooth. I forgot about that strange button on the rear of the centre console.

What a nightmare with the oil pressure light when you sent so much time and money. If the engine isn't rattling it may simply be the oil pressure sender unit in the block. Worth a try before you start some serious dismantling.

Hope it's the sender unit Tony, I would fit an Oil pressure gauge for peace of mind. I used a brass T-piece on my stag which gives me the best of both worlds cheers.

Fit a pressure gauge first and see what reading you get that way you can eliminate the oil switch!! I made it a mandatory fitment on all my triumphs👍

@@ArryTheStag From memory the oil sender is the same unit as fitted to the Stag so I think you could swap these over as a test, to eliminate a dodgy sender before doing anything more involved.

I had this oil pressure problems with the three T2000 Mk 2 `s i had or the 2500S .The sender switch is a prime suspect as it can get contaminated and since this engine has been worked on recently this would be very high on my hit list. I did have a lack of oil pressure noticeable when starting my T2k`s . The oil light would take a long time (5 to 10 seconds) to extinguish and the big ends would rattle until the oil had got around. Since this was common on all the cars i put this down to a characteristic of the engine. BTW I assume the oil is of the correct grade

Hi Tony, I once had some engine work done on my 2500 S by a garage who forgot to install the two little plugs (137811) at each end of the rocker shaft (137811), I'm not sure that this would account for the low oil pressure you have seen but the plugs are easily overlooked.

The good old demister! It seems like an afterthought, I suppose there wasn't room on the dash.
Fingers crossed that it's just the oil pressure sender.

There is a red light in the middle of my 72 stag, Chester. When I start to ride this lamp sometimes shines. Not all the time and after a few minutes it stops...whar does it means?

Could be low fuel (the segment lights do come on very early!). Alternatively it may be that your dynamo isn't charging the battery? Let us know what you find! Best TR Y

Sender unit my guess, Iv had a couple made in china , could be pressure release valve , oil too thin 20/50 I use , or it's blown out a plug somewhere,

The mystery knob- rear screen heater. This is required on Triumphs, so your hands dont get cold when you are pushing them 🙂 Only joking, thanks for the videos.
