This series is made by the filmmakers Tom Bean, Casey Brooks, and Luke Poling.
Loving this series Paris Review.
This interview with Christine Schutt reminds me of the #LongGame - of how all artists must be reminded from time to time that it's sometimes OK for their work to come together in their 40s, or 50s, or 60s and so forth.
Oh boy, I'm going to have a heard time picking a favorite! Thus far in this series, they have all been stellar but this one resonated with me the most, a touching 'first time' story and that warm afterglow at the end-beautiful human kind.
This is so heartening for me as a first-time novelist coming late - not to the craft of writing but to the labor of wrestling with a novel. Like Schutt, I was married to an abuser - heard the abuse and had to fight against it by listening to my inner voice. And like Schutt I have felt the encouragement of those who contrast such abuse with encouragement, with insightfulness, with the beauty of kindness and passion for art. Thank you for a great video - inspirational to survivors of abuse and to writers who listen to the deeper voice.
Christine Schutt talks about her first book, “Nightwork,” in today's My First Time video series.
What an inspirational film.
One of my favorite interviews from one of my favorite authors.
