Your time in the Dmax is probably down to the lack of proper maintenance they have on them. Times vary widely by changing karts even in same session.
We went on the first day they opened after lock down and got what felt like good karts. All of us were 46s to 47s.
We had felt like they had put a lot of time into getting on top of maintenance.. but perhaps not as only a few days later we returned for 2 sessions where break downs inconsistent performance in engines chassis or braking came back.
I swapped karts in 1 session and went 4 seconds faster. Came again the following day just to be let down by 2 misfiring karts followed by a 3rd with knackered brakes.
If you've never driven 2 stroke even a broken dmax will scare you, but if you're competent then you'll left disappointed more often then not...
It's a real shame as I love the circuit and really enjoy the environment and the staff have always been good to us.
But there seems to be a lack of investment in keeping on top of the karts quality. If you drive a club 100 kart, same chassis engine tyre etc they feel a whole level above. Crisp clean engine response great balance and confidence in grip and brakes.
After literally going every weekend I and a number of people have given up on daytona for these problems. Some of us have moved to club 100 racing others have moved to owner karting or both.
I do get the difficulty in maintaining a 2 stroke for public use but in all my time there I cannot say I've seen a new set of tyres on any kart.
More than half the engines will misfire or stutter or even cut out on you giving poor parity as a rotax is a sensitive beast with very small window of operation requiring constant maintenance and fine tuning.
I've moved to senior rotax now and my engine performs crisp the moment I pull out the pit lanes and hasn't ever stuttered on track. So I know it can be possible to make reliable performing rotax karts..
But I guess for as long as sessions sell out daily and they get away with it, why spend money any extra money on them..
It's a shame but the dmax fleet arent what they once were... though I believe MK are getting a new fleet? Will sandown one day as that may tempt us back...

    • @danielthompson3849
      @danielthompson3849 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Joe Achilles Not many race cars are faster than karts
The Karts lap times round bigger tracks like silverstone are the same as gt3 cars
And at Cadwell Park only a formula Jedi race car has going round faster and that was only by 0.1 second
So on the smaller tracks a big race car won’t stand a chance

Haha I'm sure, I had a go in a similar one off camera and it was incredible, 4 seconds quicker per lap, but my neck cried enough after 4 laps

@@JoeAchilles1 haha yup.. My first four full track days with her were wet... That 5th dry day on slicks opened up another beast and I've driven Trucks from the 1930's to 500bhp track cars.. The kart wins for the hardest drive.. Being British we live in and love the wet but the grip levels on a dry good track are insane. So much fun.. Lockdown has crippled me. Can't even field my CRG kart to a track. Sad face.
