Hiking is dangerous, life or death. Your motto always have to be "Safety first"

well it depends on where your hiking. doing anything could be dangerous but with common sense you'd be fine. the problem is that some people got no common sense

@@pastlife13137 that's not true. There are things that are inherently more dangerous.

um... actually the guy in the suit of armor would not have been hurt. It's simple physics. Energy always takes the most efficient path and because metal is a better conductor then a human body, the electrons will pass through the armor never touching the guy. This is called Faraday's cage. On the other hand, if you were holding metal that wasn't also touching the ground, the energy would pass through you to get to the ground, giving you serious and sometimes fatal injuries.

probably, but you are missing some key elements. Suppose that the armor is touching some body parts (for example the arms or legs) or is in direct contact with the woolen clothes of the person that wears them. Now, the electrons that will travel through the metal armor, will certainly find resistance and generate heat. The "stronger" the lightning, meaning the more electric charge it carries, the more the heat that it will be generated. So, either our armored guy gets some severe skin burns or his woven clothes catch fire. In both cases, the possibility of this guy getting hurt is high. But, you know sth ? It doesn't really matter....who hikes in chainmail ? Happy nerding man, and of course....have fun hiking.

Then go out in the lightning with a suit of armor or shut up.
