Version 3 - RFID Attendance System using NodeMCU ESP8266 and Google Sheets

- Here is the version 3 of RFID Attendance System using NodeMCU ESP8266 and Google. Just scan the RFID tag and the attendance data will be recorded on the Google Sheets as well as a success message will be displayed on the LCD connected to the NodeMCU. You can use this project to automate the attendance system for offices, schools and universities. I have added some new features in this project.
1. For displaying real time feedback, I have added the LCD with an I2C module.
2. I have created a very simple and easy method, to store student data on the RFID tag.
3. I have removed all the connection failed errors, By making the code more optimized.

Hi, do you know how to write a code that can show the location of RFID reader? For example, if I scan the card on RFID reader in Malaysia, it will show "Location : Malaysia", if it in Indonesia, then it will show "Location : Indonesia". Thankyou for this great project ahmad, but there is a problem when multiple read failed attemps were made, it won't send data to google sheets and in serial monitor it displays Reading failed: A buffer is not big enough, it's a hassle to always manually reset the nodemcu. i hope in version 4 this error would be fixed and not always resetting the board for it to work again big Thanks in advance.

Hey Ahmad, Can you please tell if the unknown RFID tag is scanned so it should display unauthorised user how to do so??
it is not as simple. one way to do that, you can use EEPROM memory to save the IDs of your each tag in the EEPROM memory. and when every a card is scan then then it match the ID of the tag to the IDs stored in the eeprom. if Id not matched then it means it is unknown rfid tag.

I've already uploaded the code to store data to my node mcu after that I open the serial monitor and place the rfid card on my MFRC522 then entered the student id for example ending with a hash then this is showing Authentication failed for Write: Timeout in communication.

The "PCD_Authenticate() failed: Timeout in communication" error message usually indicates that there is a problem with the communication between the RFID module and the Arduino. Here are a few things you can check to resolve this issue:
1. Make sure that the RFID module is properly connected to the Arduino. Check the wiring and connections to ensure that they are correct.
2. Check the power supply of the RFID module. The module might not be getting enough power to communicate with the Arduino. Try using a separate power supply or a different USB port on the computer.
3. Check the baud rate of the RFID module. The module might not be communicating at the correct baud rate. Make sure that the baud rate is set correctly in the code and the module.
4. Check the antenna of the RFID module. The antenna might be damaged or not properly attached. Check the antenna connection and make sure that it is properly connected.
5. Try resetting the RFID module and the Arduino. Sometimes, resetting the devices can help resolve communication issues.

If you are using an Arduino UNO instead of a NodeMCU with MFRC522 RFID module, you would need to make the following changes in the code:
Change the pin numbers in the code to match the pin connections on the Arduino UNO board.
Modify the code to use the appropriate SPI library for the Arduino UNO board.
Ensure that the necessary libraries (such as SPI and MFRC522 libraries) are installed in the Arduino IDE.
Additionally, you may need to check the voltage requirements for the MFRC522 module, as some versions of the module may require a voltage level translator to work with the 5V logic of the Arduino UNO board.
I'm getting a error while loading a data to a RFID tag it shows like "D3 is not declared in this scope" and D4 is not declared in this scope

I think you have accidentally stored some data on the trailer block on the rfid tag. so your block becomes write protected. so you cannot store data on the blocks. watch version 2 for more information th-cam.com/video/M9Sci4nsTEk/w-d-xo.html

use some older version of the esp8266 core from Tools > Board > Board Manager in arduino ide
Esp 32 and esp82 pins are different please provide esp82 corresponding pins in esp 32 for changing code to esp 32
but the code will not work on esp32. I have never tested it for esp32

I also have this kind of problem. What I did was I installed the older version of Arduino IDE to version 1.8.19 and it worked for me. I hope this also works for you.

It is strange. the project is working fine with me. you might try the code for version 2 and version 1 of the project to see if you have the same issue.

Thank you again for another great tutorial. It seems to work better than the previous, but there is still an error after scanning, after publishing data in

Sometimes it is 'success', and other times this error. It takes nearly 1 minutes for the blue onboard LED to start flashing again too, after this error. The data uploads into the google sheet successfully, but the error appears in serial monitor & LCD. Hope this helps you improve the system. Appreciate the help
It is writing to the google sheet, just not closing the connection properly maybe.

Sorry - This was my own fault. I was using version 3.0+ of ESP8266 library! I installed 2.6.3 and it worked fine :)

In switch case statement, the "case" part should compare a constant with the value you used in switch. like, case 3: (this statement is correct)
but you cannot use less than or greater operator with switch case statement. like case

what do you mean by 1 digit?
just supply the 5v to the lcd using vin pin. and then adjust the brightness by rotating the little nob on the backside of the lcd.
