To the negative comments about this video - Alexander Technique is not a cult nor does it represent cultist techniques. It is a method for healing and learning how to use the body in a healthful manner. It is especially useful for musicians and dancers who are dealing with injury, but can certainly apply to anyone.
Love this Jane--I have shared it with a friend and former Reuters bureau chief who is currently on a book tour requiring a great deal of public speaking--he is a convert--
How do you create that impressive crossing out of words effect where a reader can still read the underlying msg and thereby understand that you have some heavy weight behind your words and that you are undoubtedly a person to be reckoned with and someone who I should pay to teach me how to raise funds? Oh wait, I get it, that was actually your first lesson in creative fundraising! Nice job.
I came up with a similar set of theories in my journey to be great...I personally don't believe you should visit a practitioner as is heavily adviced on every website... it can be done individually if u can't afford it...but the process will require *Hope* and don't fill ashamed of quitting... that's a opportunity to learn from it mistakes and come back stronger....the only reason I'm here is because I accidentally came across this information at school and it was interesting someone had the exact same solutions to the exact same problem as me
Hi Billy, Every Alexander teacher teaches in their own voice. There is something to be said for calming the person down, though. When I teach I sound like me; NYC accent and all! I agree with you that it's easier to hear someone when they speak in a more 'normal' voice.
Think so originally years ago.. it's a nice compliment or alternative to chiropractic. Check out the chiropractor who does long lectures here on youtube John Bergman.
+Mathias Alexander Can you tell me a little about this book, I would love to learn more but I can not find out too much information about this book online.
Because its out of print. The copyright is held by the London Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique. They don't seem to want to reprint it. Try at-ffm.de/books/0734400017.htm. Also try the on line AT magazine Directions, they have a series of articles about his work.
For those who are looking for this skeleton model they are impossible to get unless you know someone who is passing one on. One of my Alexander teachers told me the person who created it died and the family wants a fortune for the patent so no one is making them
No. There are lots of models. I'm referring to the one used in this video. It is flexible as you can see when she demonstrates. There are plenty of life size models out there and one about three feet tall but this one is not available. You can't patent the spine but you can patent a particular model . She is using the one Alexander teachers like to carry with them for teaching and talks
Hello Jane. Thank you for your beautiful video. Where did you find your skeleton? I've been looking everywhere for one that size, which is NOT on a stand.
The family of the person who created it wants so much money no one can afford to produce them. The creator of this model died some time ago. That is what I heard from Alexander teachers.
the kids are spending too much time on TH-cam. Can a adult put out the kids so they can go play....please explain to that what the green stuff sticking out of the ground is (grass)
okay, what's your point? i think you're just beating around the bush with the fact that the chick's eyes were moving around a lot and it looked uncomfortable
Blanch appears to be the skeleton of an aborted fetus. Or else a member of a tiny tribe of pygmies. Either way she deserves a proper burial instead of being displayed as a circus performer. I weep for you Blanch.
Honestly, I think i would still be bored about this unless i was curious myself about this... This doesn't exactly have any effect for education, unless you're to advance in some sport or do martial arts.
Go on safari deep into the darkest jungle of Africa. There you will find a small village with tiny inhabitants known as Pygmies. Select a sturdy looking specimen and throw it into a cauldron of boiling water for 6 hours. Remove the remains from the pot and voila, you have your very own skeleton.
When anybody starts to talk in such a pretend manner, then you know it is going to be a costly session, it may work, but they are over egging the pudding, almost snake oil, yes I know good posture will help and improve your health, but it should not cost the amount they charge
This is NOT the first lesson - it's an introduction to lead you to a web-site for the first lesson.

Hurt is such a great surname for any health care provider.
though he's an actor ;)
I knew a doctor whose last name was Skinner, and he worked with another doctor whose last name was Tanner.

Wow, this is what I love about TH-cam comments, occasionally you stumble across something like open trunks

You creatively raised my funds Michelle ;)
Great intro with the skeleton. I've seen plenty of Alexander stuff on TH-cam but that was the clearest explanation.
I wasn't bored at all. I found this incredibly entertaining and actually useful.
Jane Kosminsky is AMAZING!!! She taught me the Alexander Technique in school at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre. Try this out!
This is a truly inspirational look at a wonderful technique. Everyone who gives this a look will feel inspired.
Rest in peace William Hurt
If you speed it up 2x, it sounds like an informercial or morning talk show.

By the end of the video it seemed like it would develop into a softcore porn. Would watch that for sure.

Getting up that way kills my knees!
I love William Hurt.
I swear All these Alexander technique videos feel like they are about a cult lol
I love aspects of the technique, but this cult speak is impossible and so unattractive.
Yes. It always has. You can't see nothing much and they're very secretive.
What was William Hurt doing in this video?
THANK YOU!! Inspiring indeed.
One's postures can make him royalty.
Gonna have a hard time taking Captain America: Civil War seriously now.
why?
Hi Billy,
Every Alexander teacher teaches in their own voice. There is something to be said for calming the person down, though. When I teach I sound like me; NYC accent and all! I agree with you that it's easier to hear someone when they speak in a more 'normal' voice.
Slight exaggeration there. The head actually weighs around 5kg or 11 pounds. It might be tricky to carry 15 pounds of head!!!
Was this from the Big Chill days, lol Hurt looks so young
thanks
Could I have a citation for 'Alexander's four concepts of good use' please?
Nice video by why is Hurt holding his hands behind his back?
Did this video go private for a bit?

Can’t believe General Thunderbolt Ross is in this video. Wow i wonder if he even remembers it!
@MrGrevy There is currently peer reviewed research published in British Medical Journal and the Journal of American physical therapy Association.
How come some people saying this scares them? It's just basic Alexander stuff. Did I miss something?

This reminds me of rolfing, or that surgery where they manipulate internal organs, what's that called? Psychosurgery isn't it but something like that.

Don’t patents usually expire after seven years?
You might look again.
Someone patented the structure of the human skeleton?
No. There are lots of models. I'm referring to the one used in this video. It is flexible as you can see when she demonstrates. There are plenty of life size models out there and one about three feet tall but this one is not available. You can't patent the spine but you can patent a particular model . Oh William. Were you bad? Was this community service?

jeez, how tall is Hurt?
Hurt is 6' 2" , his instructor there is like 5' 2" inches. I thought the same. Hurt looked like he was 6" 7" .
Does she do kids' puppet shows?

it does but its so misleading. the guy and the girl in this vid looked so awkward.

I do not see anything in the least scary about this video...it was deliberately slow and calm so people have time to take things in....
Wow
They're scare to try something new and scared of knowing they been abusing their body for so long.
Great video, really clear explanation. God that guy seems tall at the end! Lol
Does ANYONE know where to get a model skeleton that's flexible like that?
Only from someone who owns one

Yeah why are all posture experts and chiropractors so weird and condescending? It's as if they think we couldn't care less about our bodies.
Phil Lynch because most don’t and expect those who you say are condescending to take care of them without any personal responsibility.

because we have to be educated to go and buy medicines
