Just fixed my existing socket without the need for soldering in a new one. After removing the casing, hdd then removing the mother board with cooling fan intact and inspecting the inside of the charging socket closely with a magnifying glass, I discovered that it's possible to slide a small pin in from the back of the charging socket to enable the outer contact (inside the socket) to be gently prised out into a position where it will once again be able to make full contact with the metal of the charger jack once it is re-inserted. These type of Samsung sockets are a nightmare. Over time the contact inside the jack itself gets stretched further back every time the jack is taken out and re-inserted. You can feel when this is starting to happen in that it the jack doesn't 'grip' firmly inside the charger socket, it kinda feels sloppy. Another tell-tale sign of a poor/failing connection is overheating when charging and the charging indicator light blinking sporadically on-off. But, as I already mentioned, there IS a way of adjusting the position of the contact inside the socket if you are careful, have a good eye and a steady hand. I used a slightly-bent inch and a half long thin pin to do this and now my jack once more fits in the socket nice and snug with a definite audible 'click' where the contact points are now meeting 100% as they should. This problem is all down to general wear and tear, but it is possible to rectify it in many cases without the need for soldering in a whole new socket.
Thanks. Right now prices for laptop motherboards can be nearly the same price as a new laptop. I believe we need to repair what we can and not replace on a whim, saving money, saving the planet.
@K Smith If you have the same problem, there is no other way. If you are not comfortable taking it apart, I suggest you take it into a professional. Good luck!
The warning you made on 3:05, i have broken that part off the motherboard. Can it be fixed? It broke on the top part (comparatively the thinner holder)
What solider is to be used for the charging port.. also what temperature does the old soilder melt at? Also is the charging point on your laptop the same as the Samsung NP-R710?
I currently got a problem with my charging socket. This problem started around 1 year ago. Back then I really didn't care about this problem. Now, three new chargers later, I've got the same problem, but now only way more sensitive. The charger only charges when it's placed in random positions varying day by day. It will gather a huge ammount of heat in the startup process and sometimes the lights will start blinking between red and blue. However, this problem doesn't appear often when the laptop is switched off or in resting mode. I'm going to send it in for repairs if the problem doesn't lay in the charger. Do you know what could be the problem here? P.S. My pc's gotten as hot as to actually melt some of the plastic on the frame above the charger input. And about my previous chargers... the transformer inside them exploded.
+Mr. Iraxt If the charger socket has broken a contact you will get arching and that will cause overheating. That could be the reason for your overheating.
alwaysafix my charger just broke, same laptop you used in this video, I have no idea what happened, i got a new battery, and I tried charging it and my laptop didn't charge, what do I do, I think the cord itself is broken
Good day to you.my samsung charger keep flashing the green light even if I don't charge to my laptop..luckily I still have a battery to use my laptop. Does it mean the only problem is the charger since it won't charge anymore..thank you

Hi, I have the same notebook that won't turn on. When I plug the main adapter the power led blinkt on green 7 times. Do you know what this means? Thank you
Hi I changed the power jack but now it only works when it is plugged into the ac adapter it will not power on from the battery. I am not sure what is wrong every thing seems to be working it charges the battery 100% not sure what i have done wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi, I have a Samsung NP550P5C notebook that is experiencing the following problem: A 6 months at the time, he began to get the message that the charger was disconnected, but the charger was on, I thought was bad connection, I took the charger out and put again and no sign. After a few times this happening, I realized he was returning to normal after leaving off for a few minutes and reconnecting. The battery is good, every week use it only on battery and did not present any problem. The charger is also good, did the test with the multimeter to is providing the necessary power (19v) and Amps, the cable is not broken. Today, the notebook stopped charging suddenly, after that the battery is empty the computer does not turn on anymore. When I connect the charger without the battery, the charging indicator light turns green very light, but the notebook does not turn on. when I connect with the battery into notebook the light turns red and then off again after about 3 seconds, no more lights. I think the problem isn't on conector, because the led turns on only when I connect it, after that, even moving the connector, the light does not light anymore. How can I test to see if the connector is defective or if it's on the board?
i have the same laptop it got dead suddenly after that i got a new changer to test it but did not work then i tried to power it on without the battery it did not work. then i bought a new battery, it worked with a new battery and show charging with a new with the charger and battery but actually it is not charging. can you please provide a fix for that. (i opened the motherboard and checked the charging port with meter and it was ok but somehow current is not going to the battery)
@@scionnn Hot I run my soldering iron about 350 -380 Celsius, be careful not to break the very thin part of the motherboard. To make it easier add leaded solder first or even better low melt solder. Preheat with hot air and use flux, good luck.
Help I have excactly the same laptop, but the charging light on the front goes from red to green right now, and when I tried a couple of minutes earlier to plug it out and then in again to see if it would be fixed, the laptop immediately shut down. So I let charge shut down, and after 10 minutes I turned it on and the light wa fixed. But I'm afraid for my battery or charger life... Cause it has never shut down immediately. Usually windows pop yp a 10%/ 6% warning... If anyone knows please tell me what I should do. (I have no fans to keep it cool for now, if that matters)
If it only makes contact when it's bent, then it's probably the cable that's faulty. Confirm with a multi-meter and replace the charger. Excessive wiggling around of the cable will eventually break the charging point. Good luck!
Bhuvan Shrivastava You need to strip the laptop, plug in the charger and test with a multi meter behind the charging port, the pin to the board. Good luck!
My one doesn't come off for god sake... my solderinh iron is 30w and still it wouldn't come off I done top and bottom then I ended up snapping the side.. I am so angry I need to buy a new laptop now
i tried that as well and i also tried a sodering pump... neither worked... another video i thinik the guy uses a coil to attact the soder.. also mine didn't even melt for some reason
My friend's port broke from people messing around the adapter when it's plugged in. Best Buy said the whole motherboard would have to be replaced and I was like "Fuck that, all it would take is a cheap housing replacement and a little solder"

Hello, same issue for a second time, except now it's actually broke the motherboard. Can I solder wires on elsewhere to bypass the charger port?

Thanks for the fast reply. Seeing as this might be the source of the problem, I guess I'll send it in for repairs after the exams. Thanks again. :)

If you checked the charger port and the charger, it sounds like the problem is something to do with the motherboard.
Hi,
I succeed to remplace the socket power, I got the orange led saying is charging, but it doesn't want to boot!! What I missed?
Pablo Duràn If you have the orange led the repair was successful. The problem lies elsewhere. What exactly happens when you push the power button?
Thank you for this video!

Sorry to hear that. In the future it helps to add fresh solder to the joints and then use a solder sucker to remove.

Uygar Ramos Oztas The coil you are talking about is called solder wick. It sounds like your soldering iron did not get it hot enough for this job.
