I think he doesn't love Valerie, but he feels obliged to say that he loves her, that he needs her and Valerie wants to believe it's true, she is content to believe it, she is satisfied with that. Maybe I'm wrong. Sometimes it's difficult to think in another language. I liked Valerie's song.
At the beginning of the song, Abel says that there comes a time that he must acknowledge the bad things that he's done and things that he must say (wishes he could say) to Valerie, the woman that he loves. However, nobody's gonna know this truth because he can't bring himself to tell Valerie that he loves her. He's fully self-aware of his feelings for Valerie and the nature of their codependent relationship. Abel doesn't want to keep hurting her, but that's what he'll keep doing if he tells her that he loves her. Abel knows that Valerie would rather be in a toxic relationship with him than be alone. Ultimately, Abel is in pain because he can't be with Valerie, and he knows she'll be better off alone.
Gavin, The Weeknd lyrics are so confused and complex, about deepness of feelings for love in my personal opinion, The Weeknd likes to sing about complicated relationships and he does not seem a clear idea of what he wants. You analyse the lyrics so well , the girl does not seem to trust him in my opinion.🎧🎶🐙🍵
Speaking of 'lonely star', and since you started listening to Lana, Abel actually said this: “The whole monologue intro on ‘Lonely Star’ from Thursday-I just realized now that that’s Lana. That’s Lana’s voice, I mean, it’s my voice pitched up, but it’s her, it’s who she is.”
I really don't think these are lies as he says from the beginning these are things he has to come to terms with. He wants to tell her all these things but he knows he can't give her the relationship she wants, at this point in his life he was still heavy on drugs and toxic. He doesn't want to hurt her but that's what'll happen if he tells her he loves her, and if he doesn't they'll be in this toxic codependent relationship. So even though he loves her and she wants a deeper relationship from him, he's just not that guy right now and she's better off alone.
I commented on your thursday video in relation to this song, some backstory here is that in the birds 2 intro you can hear (valerie) loading a gun then shooting it as she is sobbing. This happened because she fell in love obviously, but that song is an experience where he gets her to not commit suicide (which she does later anyway). This song is his vulnerability coming out because he can't love her anymore, love his emotion. This may be my least favorite mixtape in terms of sound from him, but IMO it has the best story
Umm...I just really need you to know that these lyrics are wrong lol you probably know by now but where you said that it was the wrong "your" yes it was but it was also the wrong lyric lol the correct lyric is "you'd rather this than be alone" and it is a shame that they got that lyric wrong because it is very important to the story of the song
omg u should totally listen to The Weeknd's BBC Radio Studio Session, he does 6 songs and his vocals are absolutely stunning!
I'd be interested in checking that out!

"Your never missing me alone" doesn't sound right. I always thought it was "You'd rather this than be alone"
Yes it was the wrong *you're lol
you can t pause it when the weeknd goes in ohh ohh ohh ohh mode how could u do that! lol
Not sure if you already did but can you plz react to the weeknd Rolling Stones I think it’s his best song
👍👏 thank you.
a few of the lyrics in this video are wrong
Yeah, I noticed that too.
One of the more powerful lyrics in the song is "you'd rather this than be alone" and it didn't come close to that on the video.
