A parent's video of the Sandra Day O'Connor High School Eagle Pride Marching Band performing Cowboy Bebop tunes. Lost focus for a few seconds but sound good.
I wish my school's band teacher was this awesome!!!! Not only does that teacher have good taste but also managed to teach them the song to perfection, this is the best school version of Tank! I've seen so far
The performance was actually quite well, the song was well selected for the field of which it was picked. The song is from an anime called Cowboy Bepop, but the whole piece in itself is difficult, a level usually used by college level, but it is well practiced. I would say anyone who is from this high school reading this, GOOD JOB! I expect more from you guys in the future!
As a fellow 'band-geek' and Be-bop fan, I gotta say the whole show rocked. Fantastic for a high school. I would like to see one of the DCI bands take a stab at this.
Who says? Marching bands and drum corps and other sorts take the ultimate of discipline to accomplish. Show some respect. They don't ruin things, they make it their own. Plus, it shows the respect they have in music to cover many songs, and I think this is awesome that they are doing an anime soundtrack. True class. ;)
Its hard to just play it while sitting down at a stand.Ive heard grown ups try to play this and it who supposedly played for years sound awful playing this, but you guys marched it and made it sound pretty decent..MAJOR PROPS.
@MelancholyUnicorn cowboy bebop WAS on basic cable... you'd probably be surprised to know how many people have actually seen it. I've talked to plenty of people ( back when anime wasn't as popular as it is today ) who didn't understand the term 'anime' but knew of the show.
I think this is made of epic win. Some things could have been articulated better *koffkoffbrass*, but it was done mostly well. Also, props to the Marimba and Vibraphone players.
Wow, I've watched the entire series of Cowboy Bebop, and if I'm listening correctly, is this a mash-up of most, if not all, of the songs from the soundtrack? If not, the performance still sounds amazing, especially since this would be hard for a marching band to pull off. Great job! As a bebop fan, I'm delighted that you guys chose Tank! while also doing a great job in terms of performing it. :)
@Melancholy Unicorn I actually go to this Highschool. Here, all we do is play quirky songs, we've actually done a Final Fantasy show before. I believe the first year the school was built it was only Rush songs... Right now, I'm trying to compose Daft Punk for our marching band, but I don't think I can do it. But yeah, all we do is quirky stuff...
@AyameNaruki Yeah, since it hasn't been repeated on Adult Swim four times in the past four years and you can't find the DVDs in the states... Oh, wait...
Well the amount of time I would say it is close but I think a band would practice longer. Because they have to play instruments and manage formations even more practice if they have to memorize the pieces beforehand. Also because of the performance time they really cannot be compared that well, but I would say seeing how tough these pieces can be the band worked harder. Though unless you have done both marching and sports it is hard for someone to fully say weather their side worked harder.
That was tuscon right? Seen you guys play at least 3 times. Good job last year with that. I liked when you guys played halo 2 also. Look forward seeing you guys at our next competitions. I'm from the boulder creek high school band. Look for us at ASU.
yeah, but O'Connor was successful because of all the musicians who could play awesome. The band's success now is a direct reflection of the alumni who put in exhausting hours to build the band from the ground up to where it is now. Sadly, there are no longer any good musicians, all of them have gone on to bigger and better things.
Man, when I first saw the thing about Sandra Day O'Conner playing tank I though "Why the Fuck am I at Desert Vista?" Then I heard you guys play. Definately think this is a jazz band piece, not marching band.
Its not actually overly weird, consider you have never seen any anime, much less cowboy bebop, the song has a sort of jazzy-festive beat, last thing i would connect to is anime
The intensity of the music is taken out with the arrangement. It just isn't jazz. Still I gotta give you props for it just because it still isn't easy to do.
if you were there from day one, you can somewhat understand where i'm coming from. If you weren't, then you don't know what it's like to build a band made up of 35 people into what it is now. But the present band could never match the quality of the halo marching show, just because the musicianship is no longer there. I do make these assumptions cuz i was there when the marching band was created, I have all the facts to back up what i say because I was there.
My god, there's a lot of pissy O'Connor band kids on these comments. We don't want to hear you whining and explaining why you're a great band and your past success means there's no way you could've done a bad performance; every band has good and bad performances, regardless of their awards and history. This one wasn't bad, but merits a simple "meh".
i was in marching band and it would have been so much better if we did shit like this, but honestly im not sure if it was the camera's mic but this sounds like shit i mean the rush and drag but which marching band doesn't
I blame whatever you call the conductor of a Marching Band, the meter is terrible... The idea works I think - it's not The Seatbelts of course, but I still think it works - it's just the tempo is all over the map...
I agree with HyperFreak1102 Marching Bands should not play jazz pieces like this one, leave that to the Jazz Band. This just ruins the song, and it sounds so much like crap.
regardless of how good the band claims to be, what's shown in this video doesn't really showcase them in a good light, regardless of what you may have done outside of this performance. it's a nice try, but given the quality of the video itself as well as the quality of the performance, if i knew nothing about this band except for watching this video, i would say that they are decent, but not remarkable.
I wish my school's band teacher was this awesome!!!! Not only does that teacher have good taste but also managed to teach them the song to perfection, this is the best school version of Tank! I've seen so far
Heck yes! The bells in Rain sounded pretty amazing in this video unlike the other one :)
I am a tuba player that was in marching band and hearing their tuba section makes me pissed that they didn't learn their parts.
music veteran--very impressed. notice during aux percussion break, you could hear a PIN DROP in the audience. this was genius.
Hell yeah that was the coolest thing I think I've ever seen
I'm so glad that I got to be in this show. :D
Wow, Rain sounds really really great! Props to the trumpet soloist! The rest was fantastic too, but Rain really stood out for me. :]
Ahh, I remember watching this show back in marching band.
Pretty exciting show.
The performance was actually quite well, the song was well selected for the field of which it was picked. i was in this show!
woot woot go guard:)
We look amazing!!
I remember almost smacking a tuba with my flag in the "Rush" tune.
well this is rare to find one in AZ
As a fellow 'band-geek' and Be-bop fan, I gotta say the whole show rocked. Fantastic for a high school. I would like to see one of the DCI bands take a stab at this.
HA! My former high school! (Graduated in 2007)
Great job guys!
Steven Beuerlein.
This is epic! Awesome! Very well done!

Plus, it shows the respect they have in music to cover many songs, and I think this is awesome that they are doing an anime soundtrack. True class. ;)
the fact that they would even think about doing this is cool, and I think they did a good job, considering I used to be in band too
Its hard to just play it while sitting down at a stand.Ive heard grown ups try to play this and it who supposedly played for years sound awful playing this, but you guys marched it and made it sound pretty decent..MAJOR PROPS.
Man people need to respect what they are doing.. they are friggen marching and playing at the same time!
I curious how many people in the crowd knew where this was from...XD
Wow, i'm impressed! They aced thos fp's (Forte-piano's) very well!
OMFG THATS AWESOME!
That's awesome!, the crowd like it because it sounds so well, but if you hear some crazed cheering, that's your anime fans XD
This would've gotten more attention if this happen nowadays.
This is beautiful :'D
I love how they played Walk in the Rain!!!
I like!!!!!
J'aurai bien aimé voir ça!
I would have liked to see this!

Oh god marching to this would be HARD! Everybody needs to be right on.
I think this is made of epic win. Some things could have been articulated better *koffkoffbrass*, but it was done mostly well.
Also, props to the Marimba and Vibraphone players.
My kid is in that!!!
Wow, I've watched the entire series of Cowboy Bebop, and if I'm listening correctly, is this a mash-up of most, if not all, of the songs from the soundtrack?

@MelancholyUnicorn Cowboy bebop has one of the largest international followings of any anime. It's incredibly popular in America.
@theotherfanboy
That's cool :D
Tell me if you ever post a video of that!
wow that was such a jip they pulled the xylophone for the sax solo on tank
@danitonfen13 Prolly only, like, 1/4 of them. But you know that all the people who knew it was Cowboy Bepop loved it more then the rest!
@AyameNaruki Yeah, since it hasn't been repeated on Adult Swim four times in the past four years and you can't find the DVDs in the states... Oh, wait...
How much ou wanna bet most of these MBs don't know what Tank's from?
Love it though!!!!
@MelancholyUnicorn Once a Band Geek, always a Band Geek.
Good version.
omg
tank
???
rain
rush
this is awesome
@HxCGrizzly hahahahahahahah i fell outta my bed when i read this dude hella funny lol
oh hell yes
This was Flowing Wells

this is why youtube videos of marching bands should only come from Texas…...
@MelancholyUnicorn Either the Band teacher or the Drum Major
4:30
Educational bands FTW.
Oh Yeah , PHOENIX! 602 !!!!
MRHS is O'Connor's rival school
It took me some time to guess that that was rush... But the rest was quite ok. It's not so easy to be as good as the seathbelts...
That was tuscon right?
Seen you guys play at least 3 times. Good job last year with that. I liked when you guys played halo 2 also. Look forward seeing you guys at our next competitions. I'm from the boulder creek high school band. Look for us at ASU.
@Rymdlejon
Not only am I working on Daft Punk, but I'm also working on Metalilca. I already have Battery done.
well this is what happens when a band plays parts of a song that is done with string instruments.
Music education FTW
yeah, but O'Connor was successful because of all the musicians who could play awesome. Not just tubas...sounds like a lot of the low brass and brass in general.
Did they really have marching bands in 1886? Wow.
the first part of this bands version of tank, with the bass, or cello, or whatever string instrument they use sounds like a bag of dead cats.
watever... every highschool in az knows how good o'connor is. never heard of MRHS. I'm not even from o'connor.
Yes, I was talking about the song in 8:00 your apologies are accepted :)
Man, when I first saw the thing about Sandra Day O'Conner playing tank I though "Why the Fuck am I at Desert Vista?"
Then I heard you guys play. Definately think this is a jazz band piece, not marching band.
the drum major
an if u look, the two of them are slightly off from each other
ugh trumpets. what happened to being in tune at 1:10. besides that, hella cool
Yes, but they only had trofiys back then.
the band works a lot harder than the football players
yep
Yes, actually.
WOW the band director must also be an Otaku
@MelancholyUnicorn no one of the students showed him the song, i go to sdohs
I think he's talking about the song in 8:00
Its not actually overly weird, consider you have never seen any anime, much less cowboy bebop,
the song has a sort of jazzy-festive beat, last thing i would connect to is anime
LMAO!
wow
tubas need to clean it up a bit
@MelancholyUnicorn Where are you from?
sounds kinda dirty, but maybe that's because of the video recording.
The intensity of the music is taken out with the arrangement. It just isn't jazz. Still I gotta give you props for it just because it still isn't easy to do.
...needs more cowbell
omfg.... come on i love this song but cmon on tubas!!
they are playin it too quick though

a day or two!? it's not that hard, no, but it takes more than a day or two to get even passable at it, much less good.
My god, there's a lot of pissy O'Connor band kids on these comments. We don't want to hear you whining and explaining why you're a great band and your past success means there's no way you could've done a bad performance; every band has good and bad performances, regardless of their awards and history. I never thought I'd say this, but...too much low brass.
Gah... Love the song, but damn it band, get your parts down and play together, especially you, tubas.
Yea, too bad state was copywritten
I agree with HyperFreak1102

oh god...no bass...no soul
I don't like it D:
tank sucked
ugh, marching bands ruin everything.
this show fucking sucks, they shoulda done the fresh prince of bel air theme!!
