Beautiful artwork. The OG was the girl next door you had a crush on when you were a kid. The refit is her when you come home from college and she's turned into Miss America.
The change is so subtle it blows my mind what a difference it makes. The refit is like an aircraft, it’s has weight and scale while the old design has a strange optical void that makes it look a little less than real.
When I saw TMP on Dec. 8, 1979 I feeled in love with the refit Enterprise. Very good for this star ship that dates bake to the year 2245. I also love the Enterprise-E from 2373 even more.
This is, by far, the absolute best Star Trek video on all of TH-cam. You made my wish come true when you destroyed that damned hot rod alleged ‘ship.’ ❤
The refit and the A look beautiful in every angle. That's what I always told people and to hear you repeat it was awesome. My next favorite is sovereign but the new G is really starting to impress me more and more I watch it
Both Constitution class ships will ALWAYS be the defining ships of Star Trek. Personally, of the two, I love the movie era ship. It builds on the legacy of the original and it just looks so much better. The interior looks even better. Especially The Undiscovered Country version. In my mind's eye, if I saw myself on the Enterprise, it would be that ship.
I'm a hard person when it comes to decision making but I never can have 1 favorite. The Sovereign was my fav for a while but I've grown to like the Constitution Refit alot.
Like you I watched the TOS growing up, the 70's for me, and couldn't wait for TMP to come out. I too love both versions, but like the Refit more. I also love the Sovereign Class Enterprise-E as well.
I like the current iteration of the enterprise in strange new worlds, but I also love the refit as well along with the enterprise E enterprise F and the G
The TOS Enterprise is like an old friend that you are always happy to see, but the Refit is my favorite. Even when is not moving it seems that is ready to go into warp. Thank you for sharing your videos. Hope you and your loved ones have a great week.
Honestly, i REALLY like the Constitution refit. I also really like the look of the Ambassador-Class. Excelsior's nice, and so is the Galaxy... but that Constitution refit and Ambassador are my favorites.
I am in 100% agreement with you. The TOS and the TMP are my two favorites of all the starfleet vessels ever shown. But I will say that the refit Enterprise from TMP is my all-time number one favorite. Thank you so much for making this video. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
The refit is overall the best visually designed spaceship to date. While Jeffries' original design was undoubtedly classic and graceful, the refit essentially perfected it. Certainly, Trek has given us numerous statistically more impressive ships that have even had far more screentime, the refit just cannot be matched in her timeless lines and attention to detail.
I had the tos enterprise as a home phone. It was cool I also like the refit and the D E F enterprises and the nx-01 I learned a lot from that show too. To a point where things work much better and you can figure out how technology changes and can be upgraded easily or not. But I love it.
I feel the same way. The original was such an incredibly original design - nothing like it. It was obvious it had to be built in space to only go through space. Yet the refit took that design and improved it, adding more beauty. It reminds me of an elegant chandelier, hanging there in space. As fun and as impressive of Enterprises since, they still don't come close to the iconic gracefulness of the refit.
Hi Robb. Beautiful work. I grew up with the original Star Trek seeing the very first episode, Man Trap, on NBC in the fall of 1966. I had just turned 16 yeats old and had long been a science fiction fan. I still am and will be 74 next month. I love your channel. Thank you. Liking any vesion of the Enterprise is like an aviation fan liking any version of yhe DeHavilland Mosquito. The earliest used less powerful Merlin engines, but these were later replaced by more powerful units making a "chin," radiator necessary there y changing the look slightly. The Enterprise looks good at any angle and in any version, (well, except the "Bloody 'B', of course). Those blisters surrounding the deflector dish were not a good choice.
In my personal opinion, I believe that the TOS version of the Enterprise, although an interesting design overall, it still looked to me at least, dated and bulky in certain areas. However, the redesign, gave it a much sleeker profile and a more sensible layout, mainly considering the weapons mostly. In the TOS, the weapons, the photon torpedoes and the phasers, seem to come from the same place from under the saucer section. I liked it better that they were separated in the new design, which made more sense to me.
All of them are like loving different lovers. I will say the D was my first love as a child but for sure the connie has my heart in her elegance and grace over what the galaxy dreadnought shows.
The refit constitution-class is the coolest spaceship of all time ….loved the extended flybys during ST: TMP and STII Also, thanks so much for all the work you put into your awesome videos.
Hi mate! I've got just the ship for you, based on what you're saying. It's called the Koerner Enterprise. Look it up if you haven't heard of it. It's a take on the constitution class that could have been...Cheers!
I grew up watching Star Trek in the '70s in reruns, and I loved the _Enterprise._ When I saw the first images of the refit version, before I went to see the movie, my initial thought was "they _ruined_ it!" But that didn't last long. When I actually saw the motion picture, I fell in love with the refit design, and for many, many years, that became my favorite. Recently, however, I find myself preferring the original design. I've seen various renders of the TOS _Enterprise_ where it's given a little more detail, Aztecing similar to, but subtler than the movie refit's, the inside of the warp nacelles given a blue glow (I've read somewhere Roddenberry wanted something like that for the series, but they just didn't have the budget), and just a few tweaks here and there, none of which change the dimensions of the ship at all, and damned if I don't think that would look as good or better than any other version of the _Enterprise_ we've ever seen, and could absolutely work on the big screen.
I like the simplicity and utilitarian sense of TOS Enterprise and the show in general, it's not bogged down being gritty or realistic or flashy. I feel like if I were building a fleet of ships that it would be better to build something that's easier to repair and simpler in design than TMP era ships because space is big and you need quantity. That said from purely looks TMP Enterprise is king.
I was introduced to Star Trek with the first 4 movies in 1987 when 5, before I saw my first TOS episode. So for me, the Refit had been my favorite since we are introduced to her in the TMP. And if I am being honest the TOS Enterprise is my least favorite design out of the Constitution Classes. Back when it was announced in the mid 2000s that a new movie was in the works, I was like "Why? Let Star Trek go away for a while" til I saw the Leonard Nimoy voice over teaser and saw aspects of the Refit which made me fall in love with the Kelvin Connie and then again with the SNW Connie who even though she is more to the TOS Design still had aspects of the Refit.
🖖😎👍That is truly a major toss up for I myself love them both just the same the TOS Enterprise and the TMP Enterprise even though I have to admit that the TMP is a lot more sleeker looking, And I really loved the end part of the production were you had the both of them destroying the JJ-Prise version indeed Sir!👌.
The original Starship Enterprise will always be my favorite. My friends and I dubbed the motion picture refit as the "Intergalactic Elegant" design, and she is. But she will never outshine the original. Thank you, Matt Jefferies!
I still have the star fleet illustrated technical journal that was released just after TMP came out, it’s starts with the space shuttle version of the Enterprise, then moves through time, showing lots of various spacecraft right up until the refit Enterprise, which it had defined as ‘ Constitution II Class ‘
I'm right there with you. I too didn't think the Big E should have been redesigned, but like you I was blown away with the reveal in TMP. Starship Porn! The TMP Enterprise is my favorite, followed by the TOS.
Of course the Klingons would fear her more, Scotty studied their S2 Graph unit engines and the angular pylons. He surely reworked their warp field geometry for the refit...
You mentioned that the Enterprise was "the star of the show" on Star Trek. Yes, it most certainly was. For me, definitely. So much so, that when Kirk had to destroy it in "The Search For Spock", the audience in the theater visibly recoiled when the self destruct function began to detonate the explosives in the saucer section, and minutes later, there were a lot of people crying as the ship fell into the atmosphere of the Genesis planet and burned up. To answer your question, the TMP refit is my favorite Enterprise of all time. And I want to also say that watching each and every one of your videos over the years has been a great pleasure, and I congratulate you on a job well done! Thank You so much!
In my house, each member had their own favorite Enterprise. My dad loved the OG style, like Scoty, there was no A,B,C, or D. While my mother did not get into Star Trek until Next Generation... Enterprise D. My youngest brother likes the JJ vers Enterprise... While the middle brother liked some hunk of junk from a galaxy far, far away (there is always one in every family). I, on the other hand, was a refit, A, and B fan. and I'm not ashamed to say that the NX also has a place in my heart.
TMP Enterprise is definitely in my top 3 and I remember seeing it for the first time in 1979 at the movie theater. I remember thinking WOW, the refit looks amazing and I did not mind the long inspection viewing of the magnificent starship!
I'm old but not old enough to have been there during the initial run of TOS. I did see the refit many times at the movie theater with my Grandpa. That's my girl right there, gotta go with the refit every time.
I like you saw ST-TMP opening day with my dad (og Trekkie) I was 8yrs old and already seen promotional materials about how the refurbish Enterprise would look buy my first impression was it looked more Klingon-ish but that was cool because for the first time a good guys ship was more BA than the villains. She became my ship and Star Trek too. My father had been seduced by the dork side and Star Wars had him in it's grip. I bought the model instantly and all but abandoned my TOS one. My vote is TMP - Refit if that wasn't clear. Lol🖖😎
Mine is TMP/A. I remember going on a Friday after early release (high school) to see the movie. While I do love the original, I was too young to remember TOS on TV. My second place goes to the E.
When the Prometheus class was snuck in the Voyager “A message in the bottle” a mid size, 4 warp nacelle; Multi Vector Assault Mode warship. I fell in love with her. A bad yet good girl that had your back. IMHO. Yet, I feel the TMP Enterprise was the needed upgrade and sleek and sexy design. Beautiful yet deadly! 🖖🖖🖖🖖 I am born on Gene Roddenberry’s birth place of El Paso, TX on August 19. I was watching “Unification” TNG when Gene beamed up. 🖖🖖🖖🖖
First off anything by you catches my attention, no back stroking here, is what it is. I had a USS Enterprise model in the early 70's, it was big, hard to keep together i played with it so much i constantly broke it. Loved those round nacelles. For me no bloody A,B,C or D. I do like the other starship designs but not named the Enterprise. There is one possible 2 exceptions, the NX-01 and hybrid between the 2, design has to start somewhere. PS you know when The Enterprise 2009 rises above the clouds of Titan that's the Wrath of Khan
I love love the Constitution class. But at present, my heart is tied between the B and the C. The TMP is beautiful, and I will always have a place in my heart for her.
Imo, tmp should've went with the Phase II enterprise, ie flat nacelles with bussards, same saucer & engineering hull with added torp launchers at the neck. Refit could have been introduced ST4 as seen as 1701a. Should've used Tos uniforms or slightly updated, then twok look forwards.
The Refit is definatly my favourite as it was the era i loved. Yes, i am old, and in the UK we had the reruns of TOS, but i build the TMP model so many times and looked up to it and wondered what it would be like to fly it. The TOS ship is the corner stone of all trek, but with being born in 1972, TMP refit is my enterprise, but i agree with you, both have a place in my heart, and always will.
TMP Refit by a country mile. It was revised to include many "nautical" specifics in the vessel and for cinematic viewing. Super enhanced elegance and functionality over the TOS version.
I, too, first started with episode #1 in September 1966 when I was 5 years old, and have been Starfleet ever since. ❤ I was an avid model builder back in those days, and to-date, the Constitution class heavy cruiser is the single most built model of them all. 🥰 Of the Constitution class by far is the Refit. Sleek. Powerful. MY starship! ❤😏
Of all of the iterations of the Enterprise these are two of my three favorites - but number one has to be the classic Enterprise as depicted at the end of Discovery Season One. Now that is a gorgeous ship.
Refit. I know the interior of the A was a reuse of the TNG sets, but I still liked that. I also liked the original Enterprise A bridge seen at the end of ST: IV.
Long time no see. Awesome work. I love the TOS but I do like the refit as well. Since my wife passed away me and my girlfriend have done some Star Trek stuff but lately we are working on a comic book. Please check it out some time. You are still great at CG. Thanks for all you did for me.
Okay, some anthropomorphism will be in my answer, but here we go. I love the Refit, but the original is my first, true love. It is a “ship of dreams” that can never be surpassed or replaced. I can admire the refit only because I know that underneath the “makeup” it is still the Enterprise I first fell in love with. Inside, outside - it doesn’t matter. The original has my love and loyalty. I’ve seen the 12’ model in the Air & Space museum many times. Every time I do, it takes my breath away. If I see a video and it features the original I always watch it. I spent way too much on a professional build of the 1/350 scale model and don’t regret it. I’ll be satisfied with the new Tomy model of the refit. I know many think the refit is “prettier” but the original is perfect to me and always will be.
It's funny how differently the same event can effect two different people. I remember a 13 year old me who was stoked to go to the Smithsonian to see the Enterprise only to be completely crestfallen when I saw the TOS model. Where was my beloved TMP refit? Back in the studio in a crate, no doubt. I love the TOS Enterprise. Without it, we wouldn't have the refit. But the TOS Enterprise is a Model T. The TMP Refit is a '57 Chevy.
i really feel like this is a question of Ocean Liners vs Cruise ships, the TOS Enterprise is a ocean liner, a product of it's time, while the Refit Enterprise is a cruise ship, feels larger more powerful.
She's a Block 1 Constitution. By TMP she's 25+ years old. She would get space docked every five years for a upgrade/rebuild. By TPM the Block 1's are being outclassed by the K'tinga. So it's either a major rebuild to make her effective, or you retire her. The Constitution's are also presence ships. Show the flag, make first contact, deterrent etc. So you make her look "pretty". That delivers a message.
I love what you did here... I love the TOS version. I plan on making a fan film. I'm just having problems getting a teaser reel. I need the TOS Constitution class USS Yorktown NCC 1717 to be on patrol when it finds a time rift. As the stop to investigate a Aeon size time/ scout ship comes through and circles the Yorktown as it tries to evade the little ship from boarding. The smaller ship is too quick and agile and makes it into the hanger bay and lands. Then another scene where, as the rift is closing, the Wells class time ship comes through and stops nose to nose. I've tried blender (I'm already pretty good with fusion 360) but I'm like a kindergartener with finger paints, compared to your Picasso/Rembrandt's. After I get a good teaser reel, I'm going to need more scenes and will pay for those. I'm gonna need intro and exit reels, and some ship/planet interactions etc. Again, just want to say your stuff is AMAZING!
I prefer the Enterprise-A over the TMP version of the original Enterprise. I don't know why exactly, because the 2 ships look virtually identical. I also like the Enterprise-E.
Lol on the duel near the end. Just thinking of the line in the TOS series were the Klingon was telling the crew that the Enterprise should used as a “garbage ship”.
I love the original Connie, but do prefer the swept pylons. So...Phase II for me! The best of both worlds. A little more streamlined, but retaining the proportions and smooth hull.
The "E"is a really cool design, I liked it much more than the "D". I can see elements of the TMP Enterprise in her. The refit is however my favorite. The "E" is what was needed to take on the Borg. Something the Refit didn't have to worry about.
John Eaves who designed the E said his two favorite ship designs were the TMP Enterprise and the Excelsior. You can see the E is a perfect combination of the two.
My top 3 starships haven't changed in 20 years. In 2nd and 3rd place are the Ambassador and the Intrepid class. They switch places on occasion, but never leave the top 3. Number 1 has always been the Constitution refit. I like the original, but Andrew Probert made her "real".
🖖😎👍That's a very major toss up for me for I myself love them both just the same in every way, the TOS Enterprise and the TMP Enterprise even though the TMP is a lot more beautifully sleeker looking in every way shape and form compared to the graceful fabulous look of the TOS Enterprise!; And I truly loved and enjoyed the ending part of this production were you had the TOS & TMP totally destroy the JJ-Prise version of the Enterprise indeed Sir!👌.
TOS with TMP a very close second. Just dig the glowing, spinning nacelle domes.. they just seem to evoke power. There's more TOS episodes than there are movies and I simply spent more time with that ship than the refit.
Love 'em both, Rob. Poor Kelvinprise, though. Must have been something they said. Anyway, I am working on a physical model of the Refit for a friend, and it has sound effects. Where did you source the proper phaser sounds for the refit? I couldn't find any clean ones anywhere I looked. Thanks. Your stuff has improved a lot since you started!
I'm going to say I like the TMP Enterprise better, as the TOS Enterprise never had a proper location for weapons (something used often in the series). Torpedo's and Phasers were always in different locations and different colour's. This was largely based on budget and conflict of choice location. I'm not being hard on the original team who made the iconic ship, as it really is a great ship. But to add a 3rd view on things, I like Strange New Worlds Enterprise even more, since it has that fusion of TOS and TMP, and throws in a beefier Impulse drive, something of a nod to what we see on the Excelsior class later.
The TOS studio model used for the television show, I know because I saw it in the Smithsonian, was not upto the quality nessassary for High resolution "movie quality" filming. Hence the refitted Enterprise, and I think that the TOS MP Enterprise is the best Enterprise. I can't really get used to the newer versions
Easily both my favourite versions. The refit from the Motion picture, is a lovely gal. With the warp nacelles pylons angled back look y Like you mentioned made for speed.though I like TNG the show, the ship looks to bulky, I used to call that ship the bull frog. TMP looks much sexier. Just my opinion.
The TMP Enterprise all day, every day. I realize you couldn't have one without the other but, consider this, deep down, some of the TOS Enterprise is still there. Still the best starship designed. Ever.
The refit is my favourite Enterprise, though I do have some things that I could nitpick about, but the TOS ship (production version) runs it a close second. Matt Jeffries got it so right, and the few changes they made from the pilot version only made it better. After playing games featuring the ship, I might have suggested lowering the engines a bit to expand the side phaser arcs, but that would ruin the fore-and-aft visual balance of the saucer and nacelle that is so much of the elegance of the ship from a three-quarter view. I would have moved the refit's engine pylons further aft on the secondary hull to refine that same balance -- not move the engines, just the pylons -- but let that go. She still looks beautiful. And finally, it's great to see them both take apart the Edselprise! I loathe that thing; it warps (no pun intended) the beauty and simplicity of the lines of both the original and refitted ships into something that is painful to look at.
Don't get me wrong: Andrew Probert did a fabulous job and the refit of the Enterprise is amazing. I loved the way it looked and at the moment Kirk gets to see it from the bow, in all its glory, I got a lump in my throat. I still do when I watch TMP....but new new design will never replace the position of honor the original holds in my heart. I prefer it in every way, both the interior design and the exterior. No other ship, in Star Trek nor in any other franchise, will ever be more beautiful than the original Constitution Class Starship. Seeing it in the remastered TOS episodes and in ST: Ent episodes "Through a Mirror, Darkly" is/was a pure delight. Seeing a model of it, pure joy.
The only things I would change on the original are the impulse engines to be the ones from both TMP & SNW, & the pylons that support the nacelles to be the ones from both Phase 2 & TMP.
I always thought of the original Enterprise to be the young spaceship and the refit the grown up version if you understand my meaning. But I would like to know what paint scheme was used for both, because they both looked fantastic.
Beautiful artwork.
The OG was the girl next door you had a crush on when you were a kid. The refit is her when you come home from college and she's turned into Miss America.

Love the obvious take down of the “JJ-Prize by the Refit”
That was great! Wasn't it?😊

My best only answer would be: "BACON!"
YES I SAID THAT!!!!
I really love the swept back pylons, so I'd go with the TMP refit for first place, and the Sovereign class E for second.
I'm a hard person when it comes to decision making but I never can have 1 favorite. The Sovereign was my fav for a while but I've grown to like the Constitution Refit alot.

The refit Enterprise from the movies has always been my favorite version of any Enterprise. She is beautiful!
I would make the rear engine bulbs glow a nice white. The TOS with some of the refit lighting effects would be my favorite!

Clicked because of the Connie and the Refit. Stayed to see that Kelvin-verse garbage scow blown to bits. :P

I absolutely love the the refit. I have a blueprint of the refit on my wall right now and it's been there for 20 years. It's the greatest design
Lol🖖😎
Both are beautiful ladies but the refit is my favorite.
I am born on Gene Roddenberry’s birth place of El Paso, TX on August 19.
I love both. She is a grand old lady
I love love the Constitution class. But at present, my heart is tied between the B and the C. The TMP is beautiful, and I will always have a place in my heart for her.
Love the refit
The refit is my favorite of any Trek starship.
I love them both
Imo, tmp should've went with the Phase II enterprise, ie flat nacelles with bussards, same saucer & engineering hull with added torp launchers at the neck.
Refit could have been introduced ST4 as seen as 1701a.
Should've used Tos uniforms or slightly updated, then twok look forwards.
The refit was always my favourite but over the years i think Ive gone back to the original more often. Great video
To be honest when it comes to the connie in whatever form it takes .
I like the TOS enterprise but I prefer the TMP more
The refit is the best of the Enterprise's. With the TOS 2nd & Big D 3rd..... LLAP 🖖
Captures _my_ feelings PERFECTLY . I have nothing to add . You said it all just so well .
I truly love the refit best
I love the tos, phase II, and tmp designs
I prefer the Enterprise-A over the TMP version of the original Enterprise. I don't know why exactly, because the 2 ships look virtually identical. I also like the Enterprise-E.
Awesome job. The TMP Epterprises.
Always been a fan of the original. But the A will always be my enterprise.
They're both beautiful, I'm honestly not sure which is better.
My personal favorite is the E. Looks sturdy and ready for combat
That was prime stuff watching the real Enterprises destroying the imposter.
It's been 15 years. Get over it
The refit is still my favourite Enterprise.
Stunning old girls. None better.
a timeless beauty!
Easily both my favourite versions. The refit from the Motion picture, is a lovely gal. With the warp nacelles pylons angled back look y
Like you mentioned made for speed.though I like TNG the show, the ship looks to bulky, I used to call that ship the bull frog. TMP looks much sexier. Just my opinion.
The TMP Enterprise all day, every day.
I realize you couldn't have one without the other but, consider this,
deep down, some of the TOS Enterprise is still there.
