Auto-jump is _very_ useful, no idea what you're talking about. You can divert your focus to more activities when jumping isn't one of them, and you can go up stairs absurdly quickly. The only real problem it poses is when you're underwater, and I'm pretty sure the new swimming mechanics got rid of that anyway.
