Dried fruit and nuts! OMG yes! We use it for sweet and savory cooking. Animals OUT of my BEDROOM? That's where they all sleep! Dogs, cats, chickens, pigeons....they ALL go for the bed. Pumpkins! I'd be canning them, but we don't have kids out here. Pumpkins: San Diego. We got 48 hours before active rot set in and they folded. LOL In Central VA, maybe we get to keep them for a while! I remember snow on EASTER on year when I was small.
Great dive!! I freeze tons of fresh pumpkin puree and I only use the big jack-o'-lantern pumpkins. Delish! There's such a difference between canned pumpkin and fresh pumpkin. Love watching you guys! Duane you are hilarious 😂🤣🤣🤣. God bless you both and your girls!
Every year I buy Jack-o-lantern pumpkins when they're on sale for .99 each. Butcher them, bake them, scoop out the flesh, and freeze in baggies. They're great for carrot/sweet potato/pumpkin soup. Also great for pumpkin-oatmeal baked dog cookies. And of course, scoop out the seeds for roasting.

Any pumpkin for pumpkin pie is fine. Purists use the sweet baby pumpkins. It really doesn’t matter.

Great haul frugal family!! I think the nuts would be my favorite, but you are right FM. I used our pumpkins for pies as well. About the nuts: I wonder if they have a new family member like a little one that they discovered is allergic to nuts? If I had one living with me I might be inclined to get rid of them, but I’d give them or donate to a blessing box or food pantry.

Our farm was in Quebec just 5 miles from the Vermont border. Many times we had light snow on Hallowe'en. Also, winters would have so much snow. Doesn't happen anymore. You have had French beans lately, enjoy them with sauteed sliced almonds. Mom used to make pumpkin soup (like butternut squash soup); admittedly it was an acquired taste; we kids hated it. Mom made us use our little hands to go into the goop and scoop out the pumpkin seeds. What memories! Take care!

I’d make peanut brittle with the unsalted peanuts. I’d add the walnuts or pecans to the thanksgiving stuffing, and freeze it. I love dried fruit too. I always use big pumpkins for pumpkin pie, and it comes out amazing. I steam cubed pumpkin. Then freeze the rest for future pumpkin pie or frozen smoothies. Frozen pumpkin smoothies are delish!!

Watch out for pantry moths in all that discarded food. It may be that the food was throw out because the pantry was infested.

To preserve your carved pumpkin, all you have to do is after carving, just spray the inside with a water and beach mixture and that will ward off the bacteria for some time.
Great tip, especially if you live in a warmer climate. Maybe this year we can show off our artwork for more than two days :-)

Frugal mamma Amy: pumpkin pie is often made from butternut squash, an Amish friend of mine does that.
I think a lot of canned pumpkin is butternut squash.
My favorite find is all those delicious variety of nuts. And pumpkins, i love boiled pumpkin with other roit vegetables with salty cold fish with onions. My dog loves pumpkin too.

My personal favorite is pumpkin bread with one banana and applesauce in it. Also all of those dried fruits and nuts would make a great Christmas cake soaked in dark rum!

The pistachios and mixed dried fruit in generic bags, were from government commodities. They have those at food pantries sometimes.

When I was young Mummy, we used to carve our Pumpkins and put them outside on the doorstep for quite a while before going trick or treating, but like you say, the weather is wierd at the moment, so not sure if that would be a good idea. Right back to the haul, well done Daddy, and that new gate you found is really nice for someone who needs one. But my favourite thing apart from the Pumpkins are all those nuts, I think I would save most of those for Christmas, I love lot's of nut's at Christmas. See you two later. 🥰🇬🇧🐾🐾🎃

We’ve had no snow or even frost to this point in time . I remember my mom rushing out to the garden , pulling up fruits and veggies on Labor Day weekend . We used to get snow by mid September. It would always melt though . Being an hour away from the Rockies , it’s lucky we haven’t had frost yet . And we still have water rationing in effect .

The fruit and nut packaging is a government commodity. Good chance they go to food pantries but can't eat nuts. So dumped them.
And unfortunately most of the time they are rancid

Wash out the interior of carved pumpkins with a vinegar/water solution. They will last longer and not be toxic to the hungry
