    Optirough really sucks. Too many problems with it. Volumill is so much better.

    Why not do a facing pass first so then you don’t have to lie about stock model?

    thank you for the video, good material :)
    In 19:02 cannot you just use minimum depth option in steep/shallow instead of manipulating with stock setup

    • @CamInstructor
      @CamInstructor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. It will still want to cut that stock that is above the part first. eg. if you set min depth to -0.02 but leave stock model at +0.02, the first cut depth will still be at -0.02. You have to get rid of the stock above the part to change this behavior.

      @@CamInstructor ok i understand you want to have only one cut at the bottom without facing the top,
      that makes sens
      thank you for this video :)

    Hi Sir I don't think with this advanced mastercam knowledge you don't have to explain deep or leave stock in vise holding how much!!! No more to save your time better showing more. Those is for beginners already they must know it. Hope you use this one on 5th axis from A to Z. Anyway thank you so much teacher

    In other videos I've seen optirough used, they show the tool "spiraling" up the walls of the part during the stepups but I can't figure out how to do that. Every time I use optirough it retracts and rapids to do the next stepup. But I'd like it If it was constantly engaged in the cut and walked its way up the part. Do you know how to do this?

    • @CamInstructor
      @CamInstructor  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, optirough cannot spiral up. It cuts in Z levels.

    Thank you for the information. I just started learning mastercam and from an outsiders perspective this is a difficult program to operate. Even with all of your experience the first tool path mastercam created needed to be changed. I see it like Matlab. Sure it’s useful but only after 3 semesters of 3 credit college courses.

    What do you recommend for roughing an open window of a spoke of a wheel that is very concave? The stock is not square, it is very concave and I'm getting a lot of air time and stock left over in steps at the bottom of the spoke. I can send you an example file.

      Most of the time my go to roughing for 3D is OptiRough driven by a Stock Model.

      @DrummInBeats 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CamInstructor I've been experimenting with that but once it goes past the stock in the z it has a lot of air time underneath the part where there is no material. I guess most MC users call this the mushroom effect. When placing a floor for it to avoid it leaves little steps of material. It's fun messing around with different stuff but I feel I've hit a wall.

      @@DrummInBeats 2023 can handle mushroom stock models. 2022 and prior, machine the mushroom portion, make a new stock model, cut the rest.

      Kurt has all kinds of downloads on their website, that's where I got the file in the video. Other manufacturers have files as well.
      Here's a link to a vise on their site, download is part way down this page....
