I am a black man and I understand Coulter. I despise the demonization of white people, that is racism, no matter what the prevailing elitist ideology thinks. It is amazing that all it took for the left to become oblivious to the fact that many of them have become racist was just a little 1984 newspeak. Redefine the word racism to exclude white people and voila.(shush, don¸'t mention asians, because they are doing well)

But, hey, maybe you're right; enough Brits finally got mad at all the leftist bullshit and illegal immigration in their country and voted to get out of the fucking joke known as the European Union, so the truth of what the People really think is finally starting to come out, as it did here in the States with Trump's victory. I'm downloading this video. It was all too funny to watch Martin Amis grimace everytime when Ann Coulter kept mentioning the term "the ruling class." He looked like Ann Coulter was sticking a fork in him to find on whether or not he was still functioning. Someone on the set should have called an ambulance for Martin Amis. I have a problem with some members of England's "ruling class" lecturing us Americans about "racism" here in the United States. The British Empire England has their own problems with "racism" when "the Sun never set on the British Empire." Particularly in India before they were granted their independence.

@@TheAaronChand So what does your tripe have to do with your initial point???? Just to reassure you, I'm a student of History. I'm well aware that Empires come, they thrive, they die. Just like human beings. That's one of the major reasons why I'm a Prepper. I don't need nor care for a lecture on the nature of civilization. Especially when people are trying to initially push a political narrative rather than a historical one. I see that enough on television when I see a bunch of rioters tearing down monuments and statues rather than peacefully going through the political process of having them removed or rewrite history that they don't happen to like. That's what the Bolsheviks, Red Chinese, Nazis, and other totalitarian governments have done. If one can't accept the way history is without revising it to fit a political narrative, then one needs to find something more constructive to do. Like get a job.

So according to Martin Amis (who presumably lives in an all-white 5th Avenue studio apartment complex comfortably many miles away from Harlem or Queens), the reason I voted for Trump was because I've apparently lost the prestige of being a white guy, and I am still bitter about events that happened in 1862. Golly gee Marty, I didn't know that! And here I was thinking I was voting for a candidate because I liked his policies of ending endless wars in the mid-east, bringing jobs back to Americans, and putting a stop to the new budding Cold War with Russia.

Renewing The Mind That's not the case. Martin Amis is talking about culture. The disenfranchised white majority have the perception that the ruling class no longer values them, or shared their values. As the ruling classes are globalist corporations offshoring jobs to boost profits, the white majority have a point. However, they are wrong about Trump being the cure. He will throw them a bone or two, but the banquet will be still be served to the few. Their only chance is to stop capital being moved outside the US, and that isn't going to happen. Moreover, there's too much invested in the global oil economy for the US to back out of the Middle East. Trump will be a chimaera of a president. A distraction while business goes on as usual.

Ann was the only media personality on either side that NAILED this election. She's been criticized for the last 18 months so now its time to praise her. Everything she has said since Trump started his run has been correct, and she's been getting laughed at and criticized the entire way.
Kudos, Ann. Take YOUR victory in stride and keep fighting the good fight!

IMHO what's fascinating and worth excavation is his holding that mass illegal immigration is the "small" issue and racism the big one, and her holding the contrary.
I think this efficiently distills the differences in worldview.
And I find it by Occam's razor rather ridiculous that her view doesn't make more sense. Given that most nations in the history of the world have expressed a desire to control their borders, for obvious reasons, the racism-explains-everything brigade is missing a step.

      You're a racist! You're a sexist! You're a homophobe! You hate babies!
By your reasoning, I'm a debating genius with an excellent point of view worth considering. Since those are exactly the only arguments he brought to the table. He looked like a befuddled jackass who was lashing out blindly. Meanwhile, Ann Coulter obliterated him (even though she seemed a little bemused at the stupidity being displayed by both the interviewer and the sneering befuddled imbecile).

Judging by your comment, I'm guessing you're a Trump supporter. There's nothing typical about Martin Amis, my dear. I'll admit that Coulter was "punchier" here in her delivery, but that's a style question.
On content, if you actually listen and follow his logic, there is nuance to be had. The discussion was pushed in the direction of race by the interviewer (who is a bit of an air head). Amis then brought it to a broader point of xenophobia in America and the disinhibiting effect that Trump has had on attitudes and public discourse. He then went on to a further point about the hypocrisy of conservatives, many of whom claim to be and are perceived as being "family values" voters and yet they support Trump. Coulter then cleverly pointed out that TPP is an issue where Trump is particularly strong, which I agree with. But I think we all can agree that Trump's wide-spread popularity is not primarily to do with his stance on trade, and you can't separate his politics from his personality, given how his attitude is so much a part of his draw.
Clearly Martin Amis agrees and took up the point raised by the interviewer and discusses the pathological underbelly of American culture. Fearful, ignorant views toward minority groups have fed into Trump's crass, uninhibited approach. Amis wanted to argue that you can't take the (not so distant) past of black people away from them. It is in fact still present in many ways. Unfortunately, he didn't get to finish his point. Amis is more suited to the medium of books, Coulter is suited to interviews. Look, the bottom line is this: You've got to be huffing something if you think that backwards attitudes on social issues have nothing to do with the rise of Trump. That was Amis' ultimate argument.

Bravo, Anne, to stick to the issues and Trump's policies, and not just smear Trump with slander and name calling, buffoon, deplorable, etc. How dare Amis exclaim what white men think and feel about black men! how dare he call Trump a racist because he wants to limit immigration from radical nations. Doesn't he know that Islam is NOT a race. A person cannot leave his race; muslims leave Islam all the time (and endanger themselves). Case closed.
