LOL! I used to race home from grade school on my bike in the early 70's to catch this show every day. The horn sound used to scare the sh!t out of me too. And the part where the Mach 5 goes into lake icy chill with the MC lights flashing and making that sound cleaned me out.
Yep I absolutely love the shrill sound it would make and was really awesome… I still get freaked out by it and I'm in my mid fifties as well and I also love the part of the end when the car is at Lake icy chill and making the other shriek sounds as well… Wish my headlights did that! :) It would be kind of cool though to take the mammoth car sound and actually added as A-blast to some type of electric horn. The Mammoth Car had tricks of its own and it didn't give the Mach 5 the day off. For examples, while Speed could press a button on his wheel and the twin saws cut down trees in his way, the big bad Mammoth had those two blades on the front that simply shoved them out of its way. While Speed co7uld make the Mack 5 jump, the Mammoth dug its twin front blades into the ground and made instant mountains. Love that audio FX when the Mammoth Car goes over the railing with the echo!
My first time seeing this, and for all of you wondering, no it doesn't hold up~ But it does something better. It remains genuine. Like, it's a terrifying scene. Like I can see why it was terrifying, and the sound was crazy. I didn't realize they went in this hard on this show. That guy legit was trying to murder them. The panic shots of the heroes is not something they show these days. Even tho speed is the hero, he's just as scared of dying here as Trixie, and is getting out by the skin of his teeth. Good shit.

I don't think the Mammoth Car is the most appropriate name. But we were kids when we first saw it. I think it was made from stolen gold and the car caught fire and melted.
Yeah but man, Speed was such a lil kid about that. I mean he had gadgets from A to G. Then suddenly, "Wow! Their cars are flying! I want to make my car fly too!". Its only thanks to that now I facepalm after the many years its been. A car that can do anything but fly and go to space. He then whines and nearly kills himself to make it fly. I would almost love to see how the heck he would make the Mach 5 reach space. "Speed, strap on these warheads and you be able to make it to space for the race!
When you think about it the car in some aspect actually had the capability to fly… not so much the one that Pops made for Speed... but if you remember the episode called mach 5 versus mach 5 when 1 of the professors who gets cast in the show has a daughter and an evil henchmen and the Duplicate mach 5 car is able to fly. You would think after the end of that episode Pops would somehow taken the jet capability and given speed the capability of flight.
Just reminding you that in part 1. the mammoth car isn't the only one. There's also racers who drives an armored truck and even a cargo van in the race. And also. There are no vehicle category restriction for the race. So the MC could participate with the others
So I am not the only one thinking that even if a car could maintain speeds of over 300 mph while being equipped with heavy machinery like retractable rotary saw blades that are somehow capable of felling trees instantly that it still leaves the problem of tree stumps being in the way.
Actually if you watch the OG series and then the movie back-to-back you'll realize the ONLY thing the movie got wrong was the timeline. The characters are a 1:1, the camp is 1:1, and hell they even got the Mammoth car a short cameo despite it only being the front car.
I remember hearing a rumor that Quentin Tarantino was interested in making a Speed Racer movie. I could see Samuel L. Jackson playing the Inspector.and Michael Madsen playing Racer X. So far, in the Wachowski adaptation, John Goodman played a good Pops Racer.
Then my friend you have missed one of the most absolutely incredible animations that mankind ever produced! It initially started in Japan and was called Mach Go-go… Speed Racer is the Americanized version of it… believe me search TH-cam and watch the episodes and it will absolutely blow you way! A cartoon well ahead of its time not only back then but for future generations as well!

What Speed doesn't realize is that the Mammoth Car's tires are self-regenerating, so it does no good trying to cut the car down that way.
