It's now September 2021, and I wanted to update you on the Jackery Explorer 500 and what it was like to use in practice. #1 for the Cpap machine on the campsite it used about 20% of the battery each night, which means I could have used it five nights in a row and not needed to charge it. #2 I typically leave the campsite for most of the day and return after hikes to sleep. We use car to get to the trail heads and on the way I would use the 12 V cigarette lighter plug to charge the Jackery...this worked perfectly and with a one hour of driving I was able to charge up the Jackery to almost capacity ...I found this very comforting :) and then of course put it in the trunk of the car for security while hiking :) #3 I'm delighted with the unit and curious what a solar panel might be like to add to the setup...as a backup for security if there was an extended issue in the city. Hope this helps :) Let me know below :)
Can you tell me if you use the humidifier on the CPAP? I am looking to purchase this for the man of the house because our electricity goes out often. Thanks!
Tim, I got a Jackery 300 when they came out and I used it in my Toyota Sienna that I did a small camper conversion on. I have since sold the Sienna but I used the little Jackery to power a 53qt 12v cooler/fridge. It worked great and I'll never go back to using ice! I use the Jackery to power camera's, it works on my soldering iron and heat shrink gun, heck I've even used it for camp smooties by powering my blender...sounds like I need to review mine as well.
Would you mind sharing how long you could power your 53qt 12V fridge with your Jackery 300, please? Also, which brand of fridge, please? I have an old Roadtrek with a fridge that no longer works well, but traveling with ice in a cooler in high summer heat just is so cumbersome. I'm looking for a setup like this. I have a small 60W solar panel on the roof of my Roadtrek which I would like to switch over to powering a solar gen like the Jackery if that's possible. That's why I'm interested in your real-world results. Thanks so much!
@@juliava605 The cooler I got was a XtremePower 55L/58qt, I got it off Amazon and it looks to not be available now. I was also looking at the Alpicool model when I got it. It is a huge cooler, maybe more than I really need. If I have it relatively full of food and set it in the low 40 deg F on eco mode it will run between 18 and 24 hours on a single charge on the Jackery 300. Not dealing with ice has been amazing and I eat a lot better on the road, taking dairy and fresh veggies is awesome!! I run the cooler to the Jackery and the Jackery to my cars USB output. If I drive more than 30 minutes in a day, it keeps everything running with charge over 50%. If you had your solar panel directly into the Jackery I'd imagine you'd be good unless you had multiple days of no sun. I'll do a TH-cam video of my setup in the next 2 weeks. Cheers!
@@ElectronSurfer Wow. Thanks so much for taking the time to write this reply sharing your real-world experience. This is just the sort of information I need. I don't have a lot of money to spend on the setup and really need to make a worthwhile purchase. It's hard to figure out all the information I find online. This is very helpful. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the review, Tim. I have also done quite bit of research based on my use of CPAP and this was the unit I intend to buy until I saw the reviews for the Bluetti EB70. For those who are asking about a humidifier and heater almost any portable power station usage time will drop precipitously if you use the humidifier and heater. So, unless you are willing to pay the really big bucks, you have 3 options: use your car battery to recharge every 1-2 nights; or don't use the humidifier/heater; or heat the distilled water before placing in the reservoir.
Glad it was helpful! and thank you for the pro tip on the humidifier :) Totally makes sense as it's a heating element of some kind :) I've never liked the humidifier so I don't have it attached :) Cheers Tim
Hi Tim, Great video. Can I ask, on the DC output section, there are 2 output ports next to the cigar lighter socket. Do you know what they are and what plugs they take? I’ve just taken delivery of the 500 version and it looks great, but can’t identify those sockets. Any help much appreciated. Regards John.
That's a great question...I just got back from camping for the week in Banff...this thing was amazing! While driving and exploring each day I was able to top off the charge on the Jackery really easily and quickly after the night's use :) I also found that it was much faster for charging cell phones than my car's charger (like 3-4times faster) To answer your question, I don't know what those two ports are for...maybe for an adaptor for 12V, 10A output of some kind? It must be a DC but I'm not familiar with what would use it...if you find out can you let me know? Cheers
great review. ive really been wanting to get one, but cant splurge at the moment. i have a harbor freight 35 amp hour deep cycle at the moment. works pretty good but need more juice..lol👍
I wish we had Harbor Freight here in Canada...it always looks like a toy store to me ....so many awesome tools and devices :) :) Cheers from Vancouver Island :)
Tim do you know if it would be safe to leave it in a car in a parking lot at an attraction during the summer? Also did you turn off the humidity on your cpap during this experiment?
Hi Teena, great question. I would leave it in the trunk or under a black blanket (if the floor in your car is black) :) and as to the humidity, it's always off for me :) But I do recommend turning it off....electric heat is really inefficient so it would sap the battery. Hope this helps :) Cheers Tim
Cheers Michael :) I don't have a humidifier at all...as the climate I live in is very comfortable (no forced heat air system) and temps are very mild so haven't needed one :)
@@TimsElectric thanks for the reply, it’s really appreciated. I’m doing research in the hopes of getting one of these for my mother who uses a CPAP with a humidifier. I think based off your experience hers might run with the humidifier at half the time frame as your experience. This could be the perfect solution to power outages.
@@michaelmoriarty7942 Cheers, glad it could be of help to you in your research...I'm about to reply and pin a comment here as your reply reminded me of what it was like in practice :)
@Michelle England I don't think it would have an issue....and of course you could test it at home to see for a couple nights and ensure it'll work for you if you bought it on Amazon :) If you turn off the humidifier (I disconnected mine years ago as I didn't like it) then you'll last longer...I get 5 nights running on AC but would probably get 6-7 running DC. The unit I bought, the 500, can run up to 500W so way more than my little cpap :) Two things, if you have DC connection cords for your Cpap, it'll last longer and if you only have AC then you'll need a splitter (as the 500 only has one plug for AC) but has two for DC. Hope this helps :) I don't have a DC cord and they're about $100 so I just use the AC ...so haven't tried it with the DC....but I did the math and it would be more efficient :)
