Arguably the most iconic series of videos on Caddy’s channel. And yes, the animations never get any easier to watch when you revisit these videos. Thank you for suffering for this video.
As nostalgic as Caddy's old videos make me...yeah, I can totally understand why he wants to shovel them into a corner and move on. That first Dalmatian one is dire.
Funny story, I actually tried some of these Phoenix games a long time ago since Someone I knew had a lot of them including a Tony Hawk one that I can't recall the name of and they were the worst experience of my life but I guess I got to experience the anguish that Caddy went through, never got to play the Pinocchio one though
That song in the last Phoenix video about soccer was in Dutch, because Phoenix games was a Dutch company and were clearly too lazy to translate it to English. As a Dutchman myself, these Phoenix videos are even more painful. Hearing those thick Dutch accents and badly translated voicelines just hurts. The Dutch have made some great things, but these "games" are clearly not one of them. Not proud of my country for these ones 😂. On another note, I'm really enjoying these caddicarus reactions you're doing. I hope you do more.
Veteran Kingdom Hearts fan, eh? Well, you probably already know that Caddy made a video on KH3, but he also reviewed every preceding game in the series under the 'Caddy' banner of reviews. They're a bit more analytical than jokey and mostly consist of voiceover, but they still have some good lines if that's your thing. I think someone made a playlist that includes all of them, should be an easy search.
The thing about Phoenix Games is that they were basically one of those companies that were contracted to create shovelware minigame collections alongside rereleasing rip off low budget “movies” when they weren’t making other shitty shovelware games. The PS2 was a huge market for these sorts of games too, which is why a lot of really garbage and low effort content got put on it. A big example of this is Data Design, a company famous for its shovelware on Wii, but actually put out most of that library first on PS2.
So a lot of these "games" aren't exactly games. Around the early 2000s, DvD players were expensive and PS2 sold itself as being not only a game console that has an extensive library, but that it can also play DvDs... so people bought PS2s to compensate for a DvD player. So a lot of these "games" are actually bargain bin DvDs disguised as PS2 games. Which is the games are just a bunch of DvD menu games, while the bulk of the disc is a bootleg movie. (This only just my theory on it, just take it as a probability and not an absolute fact.)
I got ya. I mean, I used to watch a lot of DVDs on my PS2 as well as a kid so that does make sense if that were the case. But these "games/movies" have no right being so bad (comically) if they were being sold as interactive movies, just my opinion. Haha.
You know, if you enjoy online reviewers like Caddicarus, you might like Zero Punctuation. I recommend his review of Hatred as being a good introduction to his style. You'll find those reviews over on The Escapist channel.
