Equipped with riverboats, boat captain, and animated scenes, guests would learn about La Salle and his journey to find the Mississippi River in the 1600s. I was little and I still remember when the Indian boat pulled up beside us! So thrilling and exciting.

I loved this ride as a kid. My family lived in Irving and the highlight of every summer was visiting SFOT, where we could eat all the Pink Things we could stand and we each got a souvenir. In the summer of 1975 after graduating high school, I worked there as a hostess (otherwise known as a patio girl) and I was stationed at the Lil' Sausage House patio. On the other side of the privacy fence behind the patio was the Indian canoe for the riverboat ride. I heard the whooping Indians and the medicine man every ten minutes or so all day long. In front of the patio was the canoe ride and the underwater tunnel exit for the Runaway Mine Train. I can still hear all of it just like it was yesterday.

I remember this ride very fondly. I understand the need to put in newer attractions but watching this video reminds me that although the animatronics were simple, they were very effective. Even my teenage son said "hey that's cool". THAT, is a win. I think even today the charm of this ride would relate. Since they brought back the Speelunkers I have to wonder if it would be possible to bring this back. Maybe not but look at Jungle Cruise, the ride has remained hugely popular all these years. Thank you for this video. I love nostalgia!

I was a riverboat captain, or rather a River Rat as we referred to ourselves, in 1979 and 1980. It was by far my favorite ride to work and I made many life long friends. I still have a copy of the official script which we rarely went by in those days. We would rotate assignments each hour. You usually spieled about five times, worked unloading for an hour, worked loading for an hour, then back to spieling. I loved the unloading spiel. “Please watch you step as your stepping out, watch you head as your heading out, and if you hit your head, watch your language as this is a family ride. Please feel free to take my hand and if you don’t feel free, I do accept cash, checks, and major credit cards. Have a sun filled, fun filled day at Six Flags over Texas.”

I was a Captan on this ride in the summer of 1963. Great summer job. At that time there were no written scripts. You had to learn by riding along and memorizing your trainers pitch.

This was one of the best rides at Six Flags. I loved it. The riverboat captains (male and female) were great. I loved the cavern finale. It really smelled like an underground cave.

This was my job (Captain) at Six Flags during the summer of 1963! It was an outstanding summer job. Brought back great memories. Cannons were great. The tunnel under the water fall had air conditioning and I was always glad to get there to cool off. Summers were hot. I do recall the black lights and skeletons inside the cave.

I always saved this ride for last. After sundown the river would be lit up with multi-colored lights. It was beautiful.

I never even knew this ride existed! I love the Roaring Rapids, but I would have liked to have experienced this. Man, I wish I could see Six Flags as it once was, when they had rides like this, and the park sections actually focused on the culture and history. Anyway, I love this series and can't wait for more

I have fond memories of this ride because I worked there in the 1970’s (between 1976 and 1978). Working there required that you memorize a script. Occasionally, I would recruit a child to “steer” the boat while I talked. It was great fun. One day while I worked there, Lady Bird Johnson brought grandchildren to our ride. She wasn’t on my boat, but I remember the excitement of having her on La Salle’s Adventure. Unfortunately, I don’t remember any names of my coworkers except for one and she went by the name of “Sunshine.”

I loved that ride! I'm the same age as Six Flags and went there when it was first opened! However, I don't remember at that age. But, I do remember my first rollercoaster, the Mine Train...with my dad 8n the back seats. So much fun and a cherished experience.

Loved this ride. I always wanted to be one of the river boat captains. I remember it from the early 80's back when it was changed to a more comedic ride. I still remember some of the patter. "As we pull away from the dock at this blinding rate of speed, I remind you to keep all hands and feet inside the boat, as you just might need them to swim back." "Look the beaver... If that tree was a little taller, we would be a little shorter."
    I have more.

I rode this ride many times as a kid in the 60's, 70's. It was a lot of fun, especially the boat captains and their dialogue. I miss the historical theme of the early Six Flags.

In 68, I rode La Salle's when at 3 yrs old. I was so scared and swore that next time, I would come armed. The next year, I brought my cap gun and holster, and got my shots in. My mom has a picture of me - complete with cowboy gear - getting on the ride. This was a different era for sure, and insensitive looking back, but it was my most memorable experience at Six Flags as a child.

  • @Rockulaproductions

This ride scared the crap out of me when I was a little boy. I went in the 70's and the guides had a better script. "You can't trust those Spaniards!".... "WOW! Look at that Indian Chick!" It was still pretty gruesome. I'd take LaSalle's River Adventure over Roaring Rapids any day

I do believe this was a quite fluffed up "TV" version for the opening of the ride. Everything looks incredibly now and this may have been an opening-season promo. It was the best bet at finding a video with any type of ride-related audio!

I loved this ride, this is when Six Flags was entertainment, which nowadays IS LONG GONE!! I hate today's Six Flags. nothing but a money pit. I was 6years old in 1963, and this ride was the coolest. Went every year in the 60's.

I remember as a little kid the boat captain would begin the trip by explaining the wooden barrel he was sitting on was full of soap. Why?.... so if the boat sank....... we could all “wash” ashore. I loved that joke each time a heard it. :) that said, I feared the falling tree would eventually hit our boat.

LaSalle's (Over Texas) and Jean Ribaut's (Over Georgia) were my favorite rides, along with Georgia's Great American Scream Machine. I admit I do love the various water rides, especially the ones that drench us in hot summer, but those quaint riverboat rides of the early days still tug at my heart strings.

The mention of the whirlpool near the end of the video - that's my main memory of this ride: the hand swirling around at that spot. For whatever reason that's the MAIN item I have in my head, from all the many times I did the LaSalle. Good times back in the day.

    • @edc1954
      @edc1954 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I remember that whirlpool vividly as well. We went on this ride so many times that I started looking backwards after each scenario rather than forward -- that's when I noticed that just when the boat was about to go out of sight around the bend after the beaver cut down that tree, you could see the tree being reset back upright in preparation for the next ride!

Gotta be honest, I was not fan of this one. If the line was short I might jump on 1 time diring my visit. Once you rode it once it was just kind of boring in my opinion. It also required a fairly charismatic person to sell the tour.
