Ok actually i started watching this video just to see young rami malek being adorable but... this actually gave me a lot of feelings :'( Kenny is such a sweet, kind character and his whole storyline with the dad adopting him and his dad kicking him out was so sad. The scene when the mom says kenny's parents won't take him back was so heartbreaking. Despite all the offensive jokes, this goofy, low budget sitcom actually handles the storyline pretty well? and basically all of kenny's scenes were so cute, especially the one with dylan :') I was surprised at how touching, yet funny some of these moments were

I love how quickly the dad switched to a protective dad role after Kenny came out. He never lost his sarcasm but he became so caring and understanding. Also even tho he seemed a bit against the thought of Kenny being gay in the beginning, he totally changed and even learned that he shared lots of the same interests.

This show is dated af and some of these jokes are problematic but also is kind of adorable and progressive for it’s time. Gay Arab representation is something that still doesn’t exists in any media, and the fact that the hyper masculine Archie Bunker dad was so supportive of Kenny and opened his home to him is super sweet.
And the fact is, a lot of families are still like this and still supportive of gay rights. It seems very realistic to real life

Speaking from 2021, I wouldn't go so far as saying this show is homophobic. Homophobia would be the character of Kenny never existing. But I definitely agree that gay representation in the media has become two-dimensional. As societal acceptance grows, so should the representation of non stereotypical homosexuals. My point being is that there are a lot of regular guys out there who just happen to be gay. My mechanic is gay and he loves football and hunting. One of my best friends is gay and he hates fashion and working out and couldn't name a showtune to save his life. I look forward to the day when these types of gay are represented more in film and television. When being gay is considered no more of a significant trait than hair or eye color.

A lot of people are saying this show is mysoginistic and homophobic, but I think, even as a lgbt person, this show is actually great.
(This is my first time looking at it, I'm just waiting for more Mr.Robot).
The dad, and other characters jokes are based off "negative" or seemingly "offensive" stereotypes, but the show still shows that those characters are good, kindhearted people. Sure, the dad is uncomfortable with Kenny being gay, but honestly that's just kind of natural. He doesn't do anything to actually harm him or discriminate him. He's the one who helped Kenny come out in the first place, and even talks to him about safe sex. He's an old school guy, he's doing his best.
It's an extremely realistic show that doesn't put LGBT people on a pedestal, and again, as a gay person myself, I appreciate that so much. It's just like he said, "just because you're gay doesn't mean I'm treating you any different". That includes Poking fun at you like anyone else, even if the jokes are a bit off color. There should be more shows like this on tv today

2:11 = coming out episode.. Kenny is such a disaster gay and I totally relate. You see the way vicky and dave react to kenny's situation and larry tells his dad about why kenny coming out bothered him so much.. very important. At the end the actors make an announcement for a gay youth organization so the show creators really tried with this and it's great

I really wish we could have gotten some sort of Kenny spinoff before rami went on to do better things and better roles. Kenny is probably one of my new favorite fictional characters and he's on such an obnoxious show lol Kenny is the absolute saving grace of this show. Love him

58:00 is so corny but it’s sweet how Laurie’s Dad is trying to protect Kenny. He seems like an asshole during the show but he’s old and tries his best to treat Kenny like he treats his own kids. The jokes he makes can be a little insensitive but he has no ill intent behind them. He’s really sweet even though this show was awful and I only watched for Kenny.
Also why is no one talking about the fact that Kenny is obviously being abused at home. He literally flinches all the time, apologizes for everything and asks for basic necessities like using the bathroom.

If you ever watch any interviews when he talks about his history as an actor he NEVER mentions War at Home and I think that's such a shame. He was absolutely fantastic in this and I think this was his first major role.
I'm actually crying where Kenny tells Larrys dad he's gay. Like this whole time he's been wanting to come out and he's saying how free he now feels and everyone is still laughing because Larrys dad is being so dismissive. My brother went through this and struggled so much with coming out and it really hurts to see this I don't know why but yeah.

Treating someone else poorly shouldn't be something to laugh about. Especially because the majority of the show has been a build up to when Kenny comes out and when he does it's just sad because it's taken the wrong way. I just was upset at the time because my brother had to deal with this and I didn't know and wasn't there to help him so please next time save your rude comment to yourself :))
