They don't want their lives disrupted looking after a kid they know they can take care of a young childless colllege student with no burden would be a perfect candidate. To me that's just wrong & selfish a college student has no time to look after a kid an older person who's had or has kids, has lived life a little & has the resources can take care of a kid.

@diamondminer9515 EASY, THOSE FORMER PARENTS WILL TRY TO FIND ANY WAY TO USE THEIR FORGOTTEN DAUGHTER AS A SCAPEGOAT WHILE MICHAEL IS THE IRON PYRITE CHILD(TRANSLATION: FOOL'S GOLD). THE REAL GOLD IS LISA WHO'S DOING THE RIGHT THING AND MAKING THE REAL GOLD AND HAS THE GOLDEN HEART.

Situation wise it was probably for the best that Lisa said no to taking care of Emma. At the time Lisa was still in college and had to work double shifts to make ends meet. She wouldn't have been able to care for Emma. Even if she could take care of Emma she'd be away at classes or working most of the time. That would most likely lead to Emma feeling unloved or like she was always the second choice just like Lisa felt. I'm sure Lisa would have felt horrible if she put another child through that.

LISA WAS SURELY JUSTIFIED IN NOT TAKING EMMA IN. HER FORMER PARENTS IGNORED HER FOR YEARS AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, THEY NEEDED A SCAPEGOAT TO USE ON LISA. THOSE FORMER PARENTS ARE DEFINITELY MARIA MEAN-ASS AND JUAN JACKASS MONTEZ ON STARGIRL DC TV SERIES. HOW DARE THEY TRY TO MAKE LISA LOOK LIKE THE BAD PERSON. MY HEART DOES GO OUT TO MIKE FOR FOR LOSING HIS WIFE IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT. THERE'S NO EXCUSE WHATSOEVER TO TRY TO USE LISA THAT WAY. SHAME ON THE FORMER PARENTS AND RELATIVES.

Wait a minute! The story made it sound like the brother was constantly at death's door; pretty much bedridden. How in the world was he able to find a girlfriend, marry her and have a child? Something is DEFINITELY wrong with this picture.
EDIT: And another thing: If OP's extended family (who were constantly berating her) were so concerned about Emma then THEY should have stepped up to the plate.

IKR? Either raise her or put her in the system for another loving family who wants a kid take her it sounds harsh but at least Emma would be raised in a loving environment. Rather than be with blood relatives who aren't interested in looking after her. Lisa did what was best for herself she herself was neglected she wanted to live her life.

Someone edited this story oddly. They made it sound like she was still in college when her parents asked her to take care of Emma, and then suddenly she had a job. Either way, it doesn't matter. I find it very difficult to believe that one parent couldn't have spent time and paid attention to Lisa while the other parent cared for her brother. He was Lisa's brother right? I'm trying to figure out how he married and had a kid when he was so sick all the time. Like I said, it was poorly edited.

Sometimes you have to forget the "family" aspect of life and be somewhat selfish and do what is right for you. Decide on your own path in life and do not let others guilt you into making poor decisions. We must learn from our past experiences and forge ahead and be the best person we can be.

    Father: 'Lisa, you're being selfish!'
Me: 'Says the one's who abandoned their daughter when she was a child'.
I agree with Lisa. Emma is not her responsibility, and her parents had cajones to expect her to raise her because they didn't want to be inconvenienced. Especially after they kicked her to the curb years back. It's like I've always said. Instead of having a law against abortion. They should have have a law against certain people procreating. Some people have no business raising children. Lisa's parents are a case example.
