If you check out some different sites with this same recording, you'll notice a misque on the keys. Jeff was still playing the guitar when we started hearing the piano. He realized it and hit the keys quickly, but he still felt it when he looked at Roy like OOPS. Also check out Roy's "shoes".
80% of the first ELO lineup here, just violinist Steve Woolam missing from the lineup who recorded ELO's self titled debut album which was first released in November 1971. In June 1972, Roy Wood and Bill Hunt had departed from ELO to form Wizzard while Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan regrouped ELO with new members.
This footage has been about for about 10 years, but to respect the wishes of the people who unearthed it, it has remained unseen. But I suppose someone always wants to be the first to share it.
@Luke-1296 It's freely available on the internet, if you know where to look. In fact, all of what remains of the 71/72 Whistle Test is available. It will likely start showing up on TH-cam very soon.
@towhee89 I have the full Colour Me Pop. I'll try and upload some of it when I get a chance. Blizen Jazz was 68, I think, and as far as I know, one song (or maybe two) was released as bonus track on a dvd of the 1969 event. I do have the dvd somewhere; I'll need to check. Edit: I've just checked, and it was a bootleg DVD, taken from a VHS source, so quality is not great.
@@tony713elo OK. I wasn't sure if FITR was the only song on the Bilzen video. Thanks! The Colour me Pop is confusing because half the uploads have the studio track dubbed. Keep up the great work!
@grahamhammond7804 I'm planning to put it up next, most likely in a couple of weeks. I am currently away, but I will try to get it done sooner if possible.
Unusual to see Woody playing bass without a pick. Anyone know what that bass was? Looks like a modified Fender, but what were those pickups, and why that positioning? Assuming its the bass on the record, it seems to have been wired in stereo.
It seems that he had the pickups slanted, one picking up the top two strings the the bottom two. Yes, each output separate to mix the strings left and right! A very novel (unique?) approach I think.
I think this is the same Bass that Rick Price plays on ‘I wish it could be Xmas everyday’ by Wizzard it certainly looks very similar on the Video maybe Roy loaned it to Rick?
A bassist from my old band played rhythm guitar with Bill Nelson and Be Bop Deluxe on an Old Grey WT session and they definitely sung live over a pre recorded backing track, probably Jools Holland does the same today, sorry but bands were not live on OGWT.

There was a lot more miming on OGWT than people realise. Great song though.
The Move were such a good band in a golden age of good bands
Vastly underrated, unbelieveably not recognised for their joint talents - Lynne, Wood & Bevan - we will all miss then when they are .........
Thank you for uploading genius roy wood
One of my all time favorites
Thank you Tony !
Thought id seen all jeff lynne, brilliant.
A Roy Wood sighting! Like seeing A Tasmanian Tiger in the wild!
Good one😂
this is awesome! thank you Tony!
Great song 👍
Thank you very much...
Thanks! Sounds like a live vocal to a studio track

It does, which is weird for the OGWT was all about actual, real, live performances.
The OGWT did that more than people thought.
Yeah, OGWT had bands do a live studio take which the artists then mimed too during video recording to give the impression of a live take.
@@rebeccamcdaniel1033 also check out the pickups on the bass that could not possibly make a decent sound :D
Proper rocknroll

My mom had a moomoo like the singer. Mom loved it, my dad hated it. 😝
Thanks! ;D T&M
This was on the California man single along with do ya , message from the country was the album this was off .
I had that single🎉
Jeff Lynne without those aviator specs!! talented band
A young Jeff Lynne old grey whistle test we're always live
Man could that cat write a song….Roy wears influence on his sleeve but no one else would’ve come up with this!
All time World Champion Hair.
Roys a Wizzard
did you know that if you are dyslexic and re-arrange the letters in "The Move", they spell "most underrated band of the sixties"
And 70s
Roy’s custom banana peel jacket. ⚡️💛
Symbolizing the robe that Jesus wore ' I do believe this man actually thought of himself as the second coming 😇
Where did you find this footage?? This is amazing.
Indeed! Do you also know this old Move video "Down on the bay"?

I don’t hear any bass recorder lol

@@tony713elo where is the right place to look haha, just curious.
Also wondering do you have the complete BBC Colour me Pop performance with the actual live tracks audio on HD video or Bilzen Jazz 1969? Thanks!

Etta James Shirley 😄
Do you have "Words of Aaron' from OGWT in HD.

What a beautiful white (looks customized) Strat...and what the hell kinda pickups are on that bass?

always dig monster bass tone from Message of the country album
This shows the unreliability of memories because I was sure that the OGWT never allowed miming. Oh well. Still, nice to see the band.
Despite trying to imply totally live performances the OGWT frequently featured live vocals over backing tracks.

Great song though.
Yes everything was plugged in but there was usually a backing track playing.
Jeff Lynne on the Strat and piano there. Couple or three extra members and we have ELO...
I am always so disappointed when these turn out to be a voice over album tracks...
It doesn't look like a live performance to me
Sounds like live vocals to a backing track - the keyboard at the end is a giveaway.
Sounds like early kiss
