subscribed, you made this incredibly easy to understand and made the barrier for entry on this kind of hack far lower and less intimidating, amazing service!
Tyler! I just want to thank you for your great videos. I was able to complete this project to make a great christmas present for my brother. Your videos were super easy to follow.
thanks for the video, this was a tough one for me. i tried it with a virtual machine and it wouldn't see my stlink, then i tried a raspberry pi and it wasn't working either. i had to take an old pc i had laying around; install ubuntu on it then i could finally get this to work. next i will install the larger ram chip i got in. lucky for me, its the exact same one you used so i should be good to go! keep up the great work. at the end of the video you asked if we would like to see how to install the original firmware along with the retro-go. YES PLEASE! it would be greatly appreciated by all that have watched this video and especially your chip upgrade video.
anyone know of a game and watch CFW that literally just upgrades the links awakening in built rom to the DX color version, Idk why nintendo used the b/w version for this little handheld, but it does my head in.
11:33 the reason it failed is because you didn't power cycle the device, it says you should do that for changes to take effect when you ran the last command
Great video but hope you can help me. I unlocked the console following the first few steps called it a night and turned everything off. Tonight I picked up at where I had stopped and went through the rest of the steps and finally got some roms, but when I type make -j8 flash I get the following message 'make: *** No rule to make target 'flash' . Stop. Any idea where I'm going wrong here?
That is not a solution, that is an alternative playing method for games.. 🤦♂️ this video is showing how to modify a game and watch to play homebrew or emulation. There are hundreds of other easier ways to play games on different devices.
Too much to go by, I would fail dismally. I avidly followed a tutorial to change my switch joycon shells, had all the equipment and did it all by the book being cock sure of myself I could do it. Nope, not a chance, it went totally tits-up on me and had to buy new ones for £69 🙄
This whole crap is a major pain in the ass. Everything worked until i changed the Flash to a 512 Mbit (64 Mbyte) one. I could flash for the first time but now it exits or it crashes the VMplayer. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS SHIT
try reinstalling the vm? Doesn't make sense that it worked once but not with the new flash chip. there is a different start up line to put in if you upgrade the flash. There should be no difference with the procedure at all other than that.
@@RetroResinCA @Tyler Lewis Did. same result. make -j LARGE_FLASH=1 EXTFLASH_SIZE=67108864 FLASH_ADDRESS_BITS_32=1 flash_all . crashes the vm. Which STARTUP LINE ?
Solved it . The -J8 option crashed my VM. Used this line for a 64 MB Nand: make EXTFLASH_SIZE_MB=64 FLASH_ADDRESS_BITS_32=1 flash GNW_Taget=Zelda ADAPTER=stlink Emulation of PC Engine is not very good though. A lot of screen issues and no fluid 60p scrolling. Cheers
Cause not everything has to be an invesment. If you want to have fun with your stuff, have fun with them. To some of us hacking/fixing consoles is fun.
miguel perso, Agreed 101%, Even if they hack it and load other games the physical console box will show the name " The legend of Zelda" not Contra or whatever they load, so its a waste of time hacking....

Great video as always. Yes I would like to see a part 3 added with a custom setup with the original firmware. Thank You and keep up the good work.

You seriously deserve more subscribers , I've never seen any tutorial like yours. Can't wait to try!
Thank you for the awesome walkthrough, I was able to install retro go. Next step installing the 64 MB chip
Thanks for the video bro! Can you make a video continuation with the installation of an LCD clock?
thank you so much getting the required items to do this and will be doing as well
Once chip replaced by 64Mb, what to do after ?

Strange...cause I done update to "gcc--12.2.0"
I’d be interested with adding like super Mario 3 super Mario land and maybe super Mario land 2 on my Super Mario Bros Game and Watch
very cool! thx! how make cwf with native watch without zelda's and with retrogo emulators?
Do you have a way to contact?
Exletent video
where i can download games for all of these emulators? thanks
google will help
retroarch tutorial plss
Easier solution is to buy an R4DS card then you can play them on DS, and DS Lites without soldering or opening up a console.

If you wanted to go for convenience you could always use your phone man, this isn't about convenience at all 😅

Oh no you poor soul! I just resin printed some nice joycon shells
Will there be an easier way to hack it in the future?!
this is the easier technique.
Anyone legitimately capable of doing this correctly I’ll pay you $200 USD to do it to mine.
i wish there was a easier way lol

@@foxbaker1736 glad you got it, yes the VM is not the best way to do it. A real Linux OS would be a benefit
Why would you even want to hack that... it's a collector item and it will lose it's value and whole purpose. There are cheaper alternatives
i have 4 more in the box im not concerned 😋
Buy 2, keep one packaged up ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
To play with it maybe?
