The umpires are under afl instruction, it doesn't take much to figure it out. Look at the membership numbers grow. Look at the generous fixture the year they beat GWS. They made top 4 the year prior, and had roughly 10 games at the mcg leading into the finals, while other sides had to travel, they literally broke their own rules to help them build that new/casual membership money... Then during the covid season they traveled the least as well.
I don’t go for Richmond or Adelaide but when I was watching the game u could definitely tell that they were being favoured massively. All the Victorian teams usually get favoured Over SA QLD and WA teams because 90% of the umpires come from victoria

The tigers definitely didnt play by the rules that day. Sure, adelaide didnt play perfectly either but richmond were heavily favoured. To the people saying the umpire cant see everything, why do they have like 20 cameras then? so they can review things, but some of these fouls were so blatantly obvious the umpire should have been competent enough to call them out but he never did which shouldve lost him his job. Crows should have gotten the win fair and square, yes the tigers did play more aggressively but they also got away with a loooooooot more than what the crows did. I love the Crows but they didn't show up on GF day. Full stop. When you start getting first to the ball, and start to win contested possessions , these type of calls start going your way.
You realise on 2017 the total amount of free kicks awarded to richmond was the lowest in the entire comp. The adelaide Richmond game at AO where dusty was grabbed around the neck and dumped to the ground that was in full view of all umpires. When you lose a game dont blame the umpires blame the team that didn't show up because they thought they had it won.
I think this is a result of having grand finals played at the MCG, umpires seem to favour the home team cos of crowds, we saw an awful display in 2016 with the Dogs over the Swans and still less-than-impressive calls here, yet I think they were less obvious and definitely less dangerous
The betts hold is just ridiculous and it’s shit like that which changes the momentum of a match, I myself don’t agree with all of these but some of them are bloody obvious. I also understand that these free kicks don’t justify losing by 8 goals.
The thing is you slow it down, replay it 3 times and show close ups of it! The umpires don't have the same view of the broadcasting, they don't get to slow it down, they don't get a replay and they are under as much pressure as the players out there!!! I think a lot of the non-paid frees you can look at and say they don't tend to pay them in the grand final, the trouble was all the same kind of infringements were paid against Adelaide. Things like Lever for a jumper hold, Otten for 2 jumper holds, yet Martin's crucial mark and goal against Brown was from a big jumper tug (one angle shows the jumper balloon). When the Crows lifted the intensity or the defenders pushed the boundaries the umps came down hard. I've never seen so many players so often with their arms out stretched at the umpires pleading / querying what was going on. And to think during the finals I thought to myself if Adelaide can't win I wouldn't mind Richmond getting up, I felt sorry for the supporters who have suffered for so long. And like most people I kind of felt bad that Cotchin had to miss the GF for a soft incident, but like 95% of the "experts" I recognised that based on the evidence and previous bad record there was no way he could get out of it. Instead Adelaide lost 2 key players to injury, the AFL turned a blind eye so Cotchin could play, Richmond even got to play Geelong's home final at the MCG to have even made it this far, and of course Adelaide had to travel days early to get paraded through the streets of Melb (what does that do for your preparation) before playing the GF on Richmond's home ground, then the umps kept them in the game in the first half. I understand Richmond fans will see all this as sour grapes and insulting to their win but maybe they should just quietly acknowledge that after years of torment they had a hell of a lot go right for them and Adelaide, that has had a harrowing time for the last few years, somehow they have to start again knowing that they basically did everything right but the odds were quite unfairly stacked against them. Hard to face shelling out for another membership knowing that the trend is now well and truly in play... last 5 premierships won by Vic teams defeating non-Vic teams, despite 4 of those 5 non-Vic teams being ranked higher. The chances of that happening by chance rather some kind of bias in the system are very very small. And anyone that thinks the final margin invalidates the umpiring argument is either not being honest or doesn't know footy and understand what momentum does, especially in the finally balanced elite level of AFL.

Sean's Kitchen on North Terrace is really good and Shiki Japanese Restaurant also on North Terrace. There is one in the casino called Madame Hanoi as well. I'm not a big expert on the good restaurants in Adelaide unfortunately but those are good from what I've heard.

Unfortunately, it is impossible for the umpires not to make bias decisions when a home crowd is so loud and imposing. They wouldn't do it on purpose but it happens subconsciously. Its why the west coast get a lot of good umpiring decisions in Perth... also these umpires lack sufficient training for these situations as they arnt even paid full time. The only true way to fix this would be playing at a nutral grounds. But money and the spectacle has clearly been given higher priority. So i guess all you can do is enjoy it for what it is.
Its one of the GFs i missed and have never sat down and watched a replay as i dont follow either side,but I was miffed Adelaide lost especially after getting away to a great start and watching this explains why,didnt see the final free kick tally,but im guessing it was lopsided against the crows especially after the first quarter and sometimes that doesnt matter as its where they get paid and the one with eddy betts being dragged down would have put the crows within a goal.Also if the tigers went and got a goal str8 after that it would have been a 12 point turnaround and been a hit to the crows moral.Its funny also that the bullies and the tigers werent as good in the following year as well,but as an eagles supporter I'll have to see how they go as well this year
RJ L it was a bit unfair but also consider that in 22 rounds you get 11 home games, and then there are a few other teams that play at the MCG, then also they would’ve have played a couple of those teams twice, so it makes sense for them to have 17 there, 11 normal home games, 6 away games because 3 other teams play there, and there would have been a couple teams played twice, so it’s possible for that to be a normal draw (And btw I’m not biased towards Richmond I’m a Sydney fan)

It’s not that difficult for the umpires to stealthily favour one side. All they have to do is pay the 50/50s to one team and not the other, and that gives them plausible deniability. The umpiring in the last two grand finals has been nothing short of disgusting.

Stopped following the game for a while now. And it's the best thing. AFL is all about suiting the agenda . Hawks Collingwood, Richmond, Geelong WC and Bulldogs have all had sweet gigs.
Richmond won fair and square, however this game should've come down to 2 or 3 goals not 8. If the umps had been 'fair' then the crows would have still had some momentum. Adelaide did play really poorly in the second half and Richmond got on top when it counted. 3 or 4 goals were stolen from Adelaide and 2 or 3 goals were given to Richmond. However in the end Richmond were the better side.
let's not forget that if the crows were closer then they would have pushed harder and richmond would start to panic, so it could of easily swung Adelaide's way Unfortunately the game ended like it did, deserved or not, Richmond won, and nothing can change that unfortunately

The adelaide Richmond game at AO where dusty was grabbed around the neck and dumped to the ground that was in full view of all umpires. I think this is a result of having grand finals played at the MCG, umpires seem to favour the home team cos of crowds, we saw an awful display in 2016 with the Dogs over the Swans and still less-than-impressive calls here, yet I think they were less obvious and definitely less dangerous

I think a lot of the non-paid frees you can look at and say they don't tend to pay them in the grand final, the trouble was all the same kind of infringements were paid against Adelaide. Things like Lever for a jumper hold, Otten for 2 jumper holds, yet Martin's crucial mark and goal against Brown was from a big jumper tug (one angle shows the jumper balloon).
When the Crows lifted the intensity or the defenders pushed the boundaries the umps came down hard. I've never seen so many players so often with their arms out stretched at the umpires pleading / querying what was going on.
And to think during the finals I thought to myself if Adelaide can't win I wouldn't mind Richmond getting up, I felt sorry for the supporters who have suffered for so long. And like most people I kind of felt bad that Cotchin had to miss the GF for a soft incident, but like 95% of the "experts" I recognised that based on the evidence and previous bad record there was no way he could get out of it. Instead Adelaide lost 2 key players to injury, the AFL turned a blind eye so Cotchin could play, Richmond even got to play Geelong's home final at the MCG to have even made it this far, and of course Adelaide had to travel days early to get paraded through the streets of Melb (what does that do for your preparation) before playing the GF on Richmond's home ground, then the umps kept them in the game in the first half.
I understand Richmond fans will see all this as sour grapes and insulting to their win but maybe they should just quietly acknowledge that after years of torment they had a hell of a lot go right for them and Adelaide, that has had a harrowing time for the last few years, somehow they have to start again knowing that they basically did everything right but the odds were quite unfairly stacked against them.
Hard to face shelling out for another membership knowing that the trend is now well and truly in play... last 5 premierships won by Vic teams defeating non-Vic teams, despite 4 of those 5 non-Vic teams being ranked higher. The chances of that happening by chance rather some kind of bias in the system are very very small.
And anyone that thinks the final margin invalidates the umpiring argument is either not being honest or doesn't know footy and understand what momentum does, especially in the finally balanced elite level of AFL.

Unfortunately, it is impossible for the umpires not to make bias decisions when a home crowd is so loud and imposing. They wouldn't do it on purpose but it happens subconsciously. Its why the west coast get a lot of good umpiring decisions in Perth... also these umpires lack sufficient training for these situations as they arnt even paid full time. The only true way to fix this would be playing at a nutral grounds. But money and the spectacle has clearly been given higher priority. So i guess all you can do is enjoy it for what it is.
Its one of the GFs i missed and have never sat down and watched a replay as i dont follow either side,but I was miffed Adelaide lost especially after getting away to a great start and watching this explains why,didnt see the final free kick tally,but im guessing it was lopsided against the crows especially after the first quarter and sometimes that doesnt matter as its where they get paid and the one with eddy betts being dragged down would have put the crows within a goal.Also if the tigers went and got a goal str8 after that it would have been a 12 point turnaround and been a hit to the crows moral.Its funny also that the bullies and the tigers werent as good in the following year as well,but as an eagles supporter I'll have to see how they go as well this year

RJ L it was a bit unfair but also consider that in 22 rounds you get 11 home games, and then there are a few other teams that play at the MCG, then also they would’ve have played a couple of those teams twice, so it makes sense for them to have 17 there, 11 normal home games, 6 away games because 3 other teams play there, and there would have been a couple teams played twice, so it’s possible for that to be a normal draw

Adelaide did play really poorly in the second half and Richmond got on top when it counted. 3 or 4 goals were stolen from Adelaide and 2 or 3 goals were given to Richmond. However in the end Richmond were the better side.

I agree with the holding the man calls at 0:43 and 1:26, however i believe they are the same play and should be officiated the same way (on the day Richmond got the better of both calls)

This is the most biased video I've ever seen the Eddie Betts hold was a free kick no doubt, but Grimes pushed Betts in arm was not a free kick, If you don't think Rioli's tackle on Atkins was a free kick you are a bigger idiot than I thought even Bruce Mcavaney is like "that's a terrible handball it's holding the ball" Mackay made several terrible decisions too the kick out, You also don't the highlight any of the free kicks Richmond should of got like Laird over the footy in the defensive 50 should be holding the ball, all you highlighted are some soft free kicks that maybe Crows should of got some of these are reaching and it actually shows how pathetic the Crows were on GF they pushed off the ball so easily..
