Yeah they layered the voices for the track. The technical description of what they did:
"Stewart spent three weeks recording Gouldman, Godley and Creme singing "ahhh" 16 times for each note of the chromatic scale, building up a "choir" of 48 voices for each note of the scale. The main problem facing the band was how to keep the vocal notes going for an infinite length of time, but Creme suggested that they could get around this issue by using tape loops. Stewart created loops of about 12 feet in length by feeding the loop at one end through the tape heads of the stereo recorder in the studio, and at the other end through a capstan roller fixed to the top of a microphone stand, and tensioned the tape. By creating long loops the 'blip' caused by the splice in each tape loop could be drowned out by the rest of the backing track, providing that the splices in each loop did not coincide with each other. Having created twelve tape loops for each of the 12 notes of the chromatic scale, Stewart played each loop through a separate channel of the mixing desk. This effectively turned the mixing desk into a musical instrument complete with all the notes of the chromatic scale, which the four members together then "played", fading up three or four channels at a time to create "chords" for the song's melody. Stewart had put tape across the bottom of each channel so that it was impossible to completely fade down the tracks for each note, resulting in the constant background hiss of vocals heard throughout the song"

The epitome of 70’s soft/yacht rock. Smooth, patient and heartfelt

10cc are a great English rock band from the 70's. This group was super talented as every member was a multi-instrumentalist, singer, writer & producer. "I'm Not In Love" was their biggest hit in 1975 but they had other songs such as "The Things We Do For Love", "Rubber Bullets", "The Dean & I", "The Wall Street Shuffle", "Silly Love", "Life Is A Minestrone", "Art For Art's Sake", "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" etc.

The word that comes to mind (for me) is “ethereal”. It has a very transportive, otherworldly feel. Evocative, even haunting.

Their voices were roped together, to sound like a choir of over 600 voices! Please go to "The Making Of I'm Not In Love by 10cc" ( on You Tube) where the members of 10cc tell you how they did this. Back then, this song was such a monster, everyone wanted to know how it was done!
    God Bless!

It’s his receptionist doing the voiceover for big boys don’t cry. They had to talk her into doing it for the song.

One of my top 10 life songs. Its
really heartworming to see a young man like you enjoying the music of my youth. ❤

This song has many recorded layers upon layers upon layers from what I remember. Like an unusually high amount. And the Big boys don’t cry part was an afterthought so they got the secretary receptionist at the studio to do that part of the song.

The word you're looking for is "ethereal." "Dreamweaver" by Gary Wright has a similar vibe.

If you like this otherworldly outer space type sound, check out ELO and a very excellent uplifting band. Thanks for your great review Ace!

Thanks, Ace! This song was a genius composition... so many talented musicians... they do use "effects" - but the LIVE version is just as good as studio!.. so gorgeous! also hear "The Things we do for Love" (a much lighter song... and also a huge hit for them....) appreciate your reactions!

I recommend: “Old and Wise” and “Don’t Let the Moment Pass” (both by the Alan Parson’s Project), “Hold On” (Sarah McLachlan) and “9 to 5” (a VASTLY BETTER Dolly Parton song than what you’ve heard)

You need to do a reaction to Queen, "The Show Must Go On". Freddie Mercury has a very powerful voice. You WILL love it!!

10cc is the average young males ejaculation amount. This is how they named the band. At least that's what has been said throughout the years. 20x's overdubs to get that sound 😊😊

The Song was to his Ex-Wife the one he lost everything to... He just letting her know she lost a'lot when loosing him when she lost him she screwed up he is pouring his heart out... The Stains on the Wall is the fighting her and smashing things over the wall and making stains... Not NEW Love but OLD Love you know how we feel when you lost something we can never have back.. I am Not in Love means he will never have that Love he ONCE had.. BIG BOYS DON'T CRY, BIG BOYS DON'T CRY, BIG BOYS DON'T CRY, BIG BOYS DON'T CRY,

Guy! Always listen to album version first, it's the blueprint. This version is cut! I always wonder! If people on You Tube don't know what these artists went through to put this music out, who gives them the right to slice up these songs?....that's exactly what they're doing!
