Dean, although not nearly as fast as you, I have used your method and have made quite a few crosses. Like you, I have given many away to family and friends, and have even sold a few. The most popular seem to be the smaller ones I make from dowels (1 to 1 1/2" diameter?). I also made a tiny one from a small diameter dowel that my wife carries in her purse. Thank you for sharing this video, it has encouraged me to be more creative with my lathe. Keep up the good work, your videos are thoroughly enjoyed.
Thank you Ronald, I am so glad you enjoy the videos. Thanks for watching!!!

Love it!!! You inspired me back a few months ago. I've made hundreds and given most away. I'm a greeter at our church and hand them out to new people.
So glad you are making and sharing enjoy
Dean, I’ve been looking for a simple way to make crosses...& found you! Thank yo for sharing your method! 👌👌👍👍👏👏👏
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for Watching!!!
Awesome Dean! I also saw Mike's video first and made a cross as my very first turning, ever. Due to a poor choice of wood, it isn't very pretty. But it has blessed my shop and I am forever grateful to you and Mike for your inspiration.
Welcome to turning and Thank You.
Thank you Dean, in the current climate this is very inspiring. I'm going to have to have a go at them while in lockdown.

Great lathe technique. You keep your chisels amazingly sharp
Thank You
Thanks Dean, I saw you tonight on the WorldwideWoodTurner.org zoom and immediately liked your turned cross. I appreciate your turning innovation and your also your faith. As a new turner I’m sure to try this project when I hit the shop tomorrow. Your accompanying video on the bandsaw technique and safety is very good and will certainly help other woodworkers stay safe. I subscribed to your TH-cam channel and look forward to viewing more turning projects. Thanks again. Steve from Jobstown, NJ
So glad you liked the video Thanks for Subscribing and Welcome to the world of woodturning. Stay Safe, Stay Healthy, and Happy Turning
Great job. Best of the cross turning videos. New sub. Thank you.
Thank you so much
After making several crosses myself, I am questioned about the crosses cracking in the future, since it was made with green wood. Would it be wrong or helpful to put some sealer on it?
I put finish on them as soon as I turn them. I use Danish oil or Minwax antique oil finish. If you do not put finish on them soon after you turn them they will crack, but if you put finish on them I have had very few crack and even then only small cracks. Thanks for Watching!!!
Thanks I am planning to do a follow up video and show how I cut the top and also what I do to prep the cross for finishing to keep the Greenwood from cracking thanks for your comment
Looking forward to your follow up.

Awesome! And what a divine inspiration if you will, despite (or maybe thanks to) the circumstances. I hope your wife is better now. I am looking forward to the part two you mentioned in an earlier comment. With kond regards from the Netherlands, Guido
Thank you so much and she is doing well.
Thanks Dean, I will definitely be making some of these to give away.
Thanks I am glad you enjoyed the video
Fantastic..God bless you....Will go out and try it.
Have fun
Is that a bowl gouge that you are using? Nice video. Thanks
Yes, it is!
I am VERY new to wet wood turning... whats the best way to prevent the cross from cracking?
Should i put it in sawdust for a few months?
Or is there an immediate way to be able to sell these right off the bat?
Put Minwax antique oil finish on it as soon as you finish turning it then again in 24 hours. thats what I do.
@Dean's Woodworking no later issues of cracks?
I have a mineral oil/beeswax mix, would that work as well?
Try it and see I have only use that mix on seasoned wood.
Very nice! I am a very visual learner: Could you show how you made the cuts on the band saw? I really love this idea and you did a great job. God bless you and your skill. Thanks for the video.
I will be uploading a new video that shows more of the techniques including the Bandsaw soon. Thanks for watching.
God Bless you
Thank You!
Jolie ment bien fait bravo 👍
Thanks for Watching!!
Great video Dean
Thanks Sunnny
Sweet 😋
Thank you 😊
Awesome project!!!
Thank you
So how do you keep the green wood from cracking when you are leaving the pith in it?
I put a coat of Danish oil or Antique oil (both work) on the cross as soon as possible after I turn them this reduces cracking to a minimum.
Dean, have you made the video on preparing and finishing the cross.
I have not however I will be uploading one soon that shows more of the process including the Bandsaw process. Thanks for watching.
Good idea
Thanks
Beautiful!
Thank You
Great little project, Dean. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Mike
Ι saw Mike's video and then watched this one! This is actually a pretty cool idea! It has triggered lots of project ideas in my mind! Also the story behind it is really awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching.
Do you always use green wood?
No not always but most of the time I do. Usually fresh cut limbs that I find or that people give me.
Very nice Dean ....really appreciate you sharing your cross technique....Gonna have to make this a mainstay for my productions.
I'm going to share your video with my facebook group over at facebook.com/woodturningbasics ....please stop by and leave a comment!
Thank you and may God Bless you and your family!
Thank you
Hope your wife is okay?
She is doing well thank you
This video means nothing without showing the bandsaw work.
Not really, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that he just cuts each side with the band saw.
@@jilliannitz1884 look around people are not getting smarter... IDIOCRACY is real :(
Video showing bandsaw Techniques has been uploaded th-cam.com/video/EfD6zDCZfQk/w-d-xo.html
So you didn't turn a cross on a lathe. You cut a cross using a bandsaw. The cross had nothing to do with the lathe at all. Misleading title.
God Bless have a great day.
Did you watch the video paint licker?
