This was a very enlightening video. My parents are immigrants, and Spanish is my first language. However, being raised in and educated in the United States my entire life has made it difficult to be exposed to native Spanish speakers. This always frustrated me because I was only able to maintain a conversational level of Spanish with a limited vocabulary. I decided almost one and a half years ago to immerse myself in Spanish as much as possible by changing all of my devices to Spanish and visiting Honduras as often and as long as possible to the point that I have achieved C1 and approaching C2 in that time. While I did not get every question correct, I got 9/12 which I think is still pretty good. I still make verb conjugation mistakes and have words that I have to look up because I've never been exposed, but while I was visiting Honduras last time, some family friends I had never met before thought I spoke Spanish so well that they couldn't tell I was from the United States. That was when it became clear that I am as close to native as I've ever been, and I am very proud of that.

Question number 5 was interesting. Thanks for explaining the difference between "para" and "por" in this instance. Subtle but meaningful. The rest of them were straightforward.

As a native speaker I obviously got a 12/12 but the last ones were really hard and I probably wouldn't know how to explain the reason of they being the correct ones XD tenses in spanish are really difficult for a non-native

    quiz 1 (A1,A2): 12/13; quiz 2 (B1, B2): 10/12 ; quiz 3: (C1, C2) : 11/12. as I said before, learning a language is not a linear process... missed # 6, but got # 10 right on intuition.

As someone who is thinking about studying for C1 it was interesting to use this as a way to gauge where I’m at and have a rough idea of the things I need to cover next. I am happy to report I got 7/12 (8 if I count question 5 where I chose para, which I chose for the reasons you explained in the video). It’s actually so cool how bilingual you both are as well!

I took spanish in school but it's been years since i've used it.. so i was intrigued to see where i am and took the 3 quizes on the channel... (A1,A2): 13/13; (B1, B2): 10/12 ; (C1, C2) : 11/12. so yeah i'd say i'm still somewhere around B2 if i would find myself having to use it on a daily basis i am sure that i would get even better.. reading and listening (understanding) is not a problem.. speaking without overthinking every word is something else

I find reading / writing much easier than listening / speaking because my brain is just not fast enough. I reckon I am a spread from B1 through to C1 but slow on the uptake. I need a holiday in Spain!

To anyone that feels discouraged by their ability to answer these questions: I have a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, but then I went almost 7 years without speaking/using Spanish. I've forgotten a lot of the more complex or less frequently used grammar rules (especially subjunctive rules). I'm now almost done with a Masters program in project management at a Mexican university with all but 2 of the courses taught in Spanish. I have around a 98% average in the program with just a few courses left.
Never let forgetting more obscure grammar rules keep you from jumping into conversations or learning opportunities. While it's good to try to speak completely proper Spanish, you'll be able to understand and be understood if you're close enough.

Grammatically, quiere is incorrect. But I've honestly heard subjunctive used incorrectly by natives.
My fiancé is native Colombian and sometimes he says things incorrectly. He has lived in Colombia his whole life (other than some time in Spain) and Spanish is his only language (he knows very little English).
At least in South America, people sometimes say things incorrectly (just as we native English speakers do). Like, "who did you call?" instead of "whom did you call?" "Who" in this context makes no sense, it's like saying "you called he", but people still say "who".
      I've heard things like:
Me alegra que has venido (instead of "hayas") even by native speakers.

I got very depressed when I missed 4,5,6 in a row! I actually got a little pissed off. However, I collected myself and just kept going and damn if I didn't get all the rest correct! Again, we learn more with our mistakes although I would most likely gut someone if they said that to me when I failed the exam. "Well, we learn more--" STFU!

Saludos!

In the process of preparing for C1 exam in Spanish I've made mistakes in questions 5,6 and 11. I think for people at my level questions from 1 to 4 are very easy. I would say that 9 and 11 were most tricky. And yes, question 12 seemed tricky but due to grammar tense difference my choice was quick and obvious. I would like to see more tests like this from Your channel. I would also love a test in idioms , perfrasis verbales and frases echas for both C1 and C2 levels. As for "Para buena fiesta, la de Sona" wouldn't "PARA" wrok just like English "In order to "? Just a random thought. And I had to admit You have taught me 2 new things with this test. First that PARA IR means to be at the point of leaving. And that "porque and no porque" has to be followed by subjunctive. Somehow until watching this video I have never encountered these structures and I have spent a lot of time on learnng Spanish so far. So yes, these two structures are probably neglected in many books and videos on Spanish grammar.

The keys slipped out of my hands. (a nice way to shift the blame of course, as if the keys had a life of their own, and they themselves decided to do that).
I got 9 out of 12 correct, but in actually one of them I got the meaning incorrect, so maybe 8 out of 12 is more correct.
Not an easy test for once, but that's good. In other tests I often get 50 out of 50, which gives the impression I always choose the right answer.
In one of the questions I did not understand the meaning of the phrase, I though they were doing a toast, not sure if my answer would have been correct if that is what you meant with the phrase.
The problem with that question is that there was no context whatsoever.
Of course, all these tests only measure a small part of what it means to be fluent in a foreign language.
As they are multiple choice, this allows you to eliminate some of the answers, and it avoids those cases where you might know you need to use a subjunctive, but don't know how to correctly make one.
Also, these tests mostly focus on a small part of the grammar and vocabulary.
They do not measure whether you can form your own sentences correctly, whether you have difficulty in understanding written Spanish, nor do they test whether you can understand native speakers well.
That means they should be taken with a grain of salt.
Because I speak French, Spanish and Portuguese, I can easily take an Italian test, and get almost up to level A2 in case only grammar and vocabulary are being tested with multiple choice questions, yet I cannot make my own phrases in Italian.
Took this test of Italian, Level A1: 8/10, Level A2: 6/10 (needed 7/10 to pass).
So if I would show this result to an Italian teacher, they would think I would be able to have a basic conversation in Italian, yet I never took any courses in that language, and it would probably be very hard to produce some meaningful phrases in that language.

I too almost said "se puso a llorar" at first glance.
I'm not a native speaker, but I thought these questions were too easy for C1/C2.
Some questions were good tho :) my fiancé is native Colombian, and I will say that in my time in South America and Central America, I've never heard the -ese (fuese) form used in spoken language, only in certain literature.

    • @LightSpeedSpanishChannel
      @LightSpeedSpanishChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, it's possible that they don't use the -ese ending as much as we do. Still, good to know it just in case :P :) ¡¡Buen trabajo!!
PS: 'Ponerse a llorar' is correct. Cx

    ¿Es correcto el uso de «desafortunadamente» o es «infortunadamente»?
Sí, el uso de desafortunadamente es correcto. Los adverbios infortunadamente y desafortunadamente -ambos recogidos en el DLE- son igualmente válidos y de sentido equivalente.
