I third this. Hopefully the FAA and US Commercial code don't make it overly difficult for this to be approved to do what it does, to put it one way. Assuming it isn't. Maybe it is. lol. Neat product, to say the least.
Amazing accomplishment!!!! Starting glider training, and I suspect I will need to land without an engine once in a while... How incredible to have Austin's AI watching over me all the time. Thank you, Austin!!!!!!!
Awesome Austin! I love this app and the ability to record a REAL flight and play it back in X-Plane is fantastic. I am also a huge X-Plane-11 fan especially in VR and just imported a real flight from EGBP to EGBP - keep up the great work Austin and Team!
Wow Austin... I want to thank you for creating X-Plane, I know there's a big great team, but thanks for all you've done for the community. And now I see you're also making safety apps / gear for real world flight. Wow man! Kudos, much respect, many thanks!
This is really cool and really does add extra safety when flying. But if there’s an avionics failure in the g1000, idk if it’s fatal bc you have backup avionics (the steam gauges).
Excellent work. I wonder what would happen if you simulated Captain Sully's US airways flight which landed in the Hudson a few years back. Would he have been able to make a runway I wonder? I bet this type of tech would have been welcomed, and useful even in the bigger non GA aircraft these days.
Indeed! Cpt Sully had practiced and practiced over a long period of time. BUT did he ever practice dead-stick touch down in a icy river? Hmm, wait, uh, forget I commented, ignore this ;)
I think if you write a similar app for airlines to clear mountains and find escape routes incase of depressurization or Engine failure (they're called TDP "Terrian decision points") , usually we have to program the FMC to show us where are those points are and if we pass them where can we go to however once we get a direct to a waypoint our previous TDPs aren't accurate anymore since they are previously calculated by the flight plan software so I believe such an app might sell easily for airline and you'll make a fortune out of it.
Brilliant! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 A must have in any cockpit. I have 2 questions though: 1- could this be used in a commercial airliner? 2- could having such an app at hand give pilots a sense of over-confidence making them lax on standard safety procedures?
Its 2019 and this was hot even for 2015 I remember going in a test flight with the new Applo 612 Loran just out over Bowling Green KY the pilot switch it to the Auto Pilot and it put in a Huge wind correct angle so fast and so much the pilot all most punch the AP off but the avionics manager said let go after that one quick move the loran put us over the home airport on that day I remember when avionics like the KMA24. KNI65, KT 76 and KR 87 top of the line and now units like the G3X system have made their way in to the LSA aircraft world and I love the Xavion program just fly the box's and know it's going to save your life for losing avionics at night is bad in IFR it could be the end.
This is absolutely first class! , I fly a Grumman tiger and this looks like an essential piece of software for any pilot with an iPad, One question though if I may, Will this software operate correctly if loaded up mid flight? After using nav apps such as sky demon
Every single pilot in the world must consider having this onboard. Too many accidents could have been avoid is this one was onboard: pitot and static sensors failure, artificial horizont failure, errors on flight plan input on the aircraft computer, vor failure etc etc. If captain schereiber had had this one aeroperu 603 would have landed safely (unfortunely there were no ipads then). All comercial aircrafts, even the huge ones should be equipped with an usb input in the cockpit to power an ipad and a bluetooth gps external antena for the ipad to get the needed info. Many lives have been lost because an artificial horizont got stucked with no back up for that, because static sensors were blocked or damaged giving confusing readings for the crew, because flight plans were erroneusly input in yhe flight computer leading aircrafts to death, because onboard navigation insyruments have failed etc.
I know of your work with Xplane and of course this application... can you find a way to modify this application to interface with a computer running XPlane? I mean, why are we all spending so much money on these little artificial modules that reproduce instrument clusters when we could all just buy a big old iPad and run your application instead?
Hi Austin ! Great work. I have a dummy question. What happened if there is no nearby runway from your current position when you have a failured engine but there is a safe flat in where you can crash land? Regards, JM
Hi Austin Do you have any plans to add Canadian data to xAvion? You have got a great application and I’m planning to try it in the cockpit as soon as we have a decent weather here in Toronto. BTW we have met in Oshkosh in 2018 my plane was parked in front of yours :-)
@@austinmeyer I can see Canadian airports, that is helpful. May I ask where is your Canadian Airport data from, doesn’t it have all frequencies in it? I know that Flt Plan Go App is getting Canadian Maps from somewhere and they have CFS as well.
@@austinmeyer do they have Canadian charts? I’m looking for the reliable source for the Navaids and charts for my MGL EFIS and would like to have xAvion as my second display as two independent sources of navigation.
It's an awesome app. But, if I may ask, WHY is it always an iPad or iPhone and NOT an android one? Can it be run in an android tablet or have you got a version for it? Thanking you..
Could easily port this to AR once such hardware becomes popular as iPads. I believe apple is going to kick that off. As they did the touchscreen smart phone era.
yeah, i would agree that this is an excellent tool to have, except....... ipads suck, and fail way more than aircraft systems ever have. i used to have an iphone and an few ipads, and they had so many problems, that i switched to android, and and not too long ago to a surface pro 4, which both are ten times better devices. so my natural question which follows is, with windows accounting for over 93% of the market, why wouldn't you have written an app for a windows device? it has to be beneficial to have it on both platforms. after experiencing the difference between apple products, and my android and m$ devices, i have actually grown to HATE anything apple, and the fact that i ever thought they were good products. while i do like the idea of what you are saying, I think it would be served better to at least also have it on a stronger, more complete os, and seen on a much nicer and brighter screen. very interesting, i just noticed in looking at it again, you are flying out of Columbia metro. I thought you were in Texas these days. Anyway, I am wondering if you ever fly out of CUB?
It's not very convincing because you're hardly not anywhere close to following the hoops? Was it leading you down the wrong path when you turned the recording off and then came back or what? I mean it's a GREAT idea but this video isn't totally convincing to me personally. Good marketing video though.
@@austinmeyer Ok cool, was just wondering. I've had X-Plane for some years now and just started a X-Plane channel for reviewing Apps, Airplanes, Scenery, Addons, etc. One of the main focuses of the channel is teaching people how to create they're own Airplanes either to sell or just for their own enjoyment. I use Blender for my modeling program and what I had a hard time finding when I was learning is developing custom gauges, synthetics vision, etc so my plan is to teach the whole process of creating a custom plane, gauges, along with the texturing, animation, programming, etc. My full-time job is an independent security researcher so I'm very good at programming. Anyway. Thanks for the quick answer and also does Xavion work with X-Plane?
So we follow the magenta hoops then? J/k Very cool app!!! I don't like the subscription model unfortunately this should be a one time purchase app and maybe in-app purchases to update the airport database. This is more expensive than ForeFlight!!! which will eventually incorporate the features of this whole app into theirs and will end up killing it.
