    Well done you two! I am taking inspiration from your adventures as I look ahead to my own bikepacking and ultracycling events in 2023. Thank you for taking the time to document your journey, which I will follow eagerly. Safe travels!

    greetings from a new subscriber from The Netherlands I am 67 and will start next year on my European tour thank you for showing there is pain as well as joy on the tour and not everything is roses but indeed when you go uphill there is the reward of going down with speed😅😅

      That sounds amazing! Yes we try to reflect on what is moving us at the time. In the beginning there is quite some pain :-D
      We met quite some cyclists that startet some very serious bicycle touring when they ended their professional life. All the best for your trip.

    Oh boy, this reminds me of my first tour: day 2 a migraine from h-ll, day 3 knee pain so I had to walk, day 4 fever and a cold. And dispite that i still love bike touring! Great videos!

    You seem to have some nice cycleways in Germany. A nice week on the road and a great introduction to you both for cycle touring. Jay

      Yes we do. There are countless excellent long-distance cycleways all over Germany. One can literally go everywhere with little contact with cars. They also connect to the EuroVelo routes!

    There are days when it gets tough , sometimes , I have to rest every 10-15 minutes , not always a bad thing because I drink some water , failing to drink enough is a common mistake even for experienced cyclists as is eating little and often . Around here , in France , its just one long long hill after another , I sometimes take a break half way up , or sometimes stop to take a photograph , so practising starting off on hills is handy . Well done .

    • @AmazingWorldBikeTour
      @AmazingWorldBikeTour  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, especially the drinking is fundamental. We try to remember each other to drink all the time, but often it is still not enough...

    • @chutsam7465
      @chutsam7465 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Drinks with high concentrations of sodium are necessary for intense or endurance rides. Between 500-1,000mg of sodium per liter of fluid is recommended for long-duration exercise. Hydration drinks should also contain other electrolytes lost with sweat, like potassium, calcium, and magnesium. The other golden rule is eat before you are hungry. There is a term called "bonking" - Bonking is a dreaded experience and occurs when the body becomes functionally depleted of glycogen.

    01:31 What kind of act was that, chasing that bird?

    • @AmazingWorldBikeTour

      I wouldn't call that chasing. Seems ridiculous to even think of chasing a bird with a bicycle 😉

      @@AmazingWorldBikeTourJust don't do it again, it is rude and unnecesary. We bike lovers should respect nature. For the rest I like your video, best regards from another bike traveller in Spain

    • @unknownmovement
      @unknownmovement 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@kayasper6081"just dont do it again" or else? So ridiculous to command authority like that on a video like this. You're framing them while they are good people having innocent fun on a bike. Every kid drives towards birds for fun. We are literal hunter gatherers and we eat animals 😂 you really think him driving towards this bird hurts the feelings of the bird? Go tell the lion to stop chasing his prey please, see if he'll listen or eat you. Also science has proven plants have feelings, so what should we do? Stop making furniture of wood. Stop walking on grass? 😂 Maybe we should all die and not disturb nature. Ever considered we are a part of nature? Get lost with this woke shit man 😂

    • @kayasper6081
      @kayasper6081 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@unknownmovement The other examples given by you are rather pointless and have nothing to do with it. There is just no point in chasing away birds "for fun". It is a lack of respect for our surroundings and not necessary.

    • @unknownmovement
      @unknownmovement 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@kayasper6081 There is plenty of other animals who behave in such manors. Cats will shoe away animals for the sake of doing it for example. Not every act we conduct has to have a "point". What's the point of dancing? Having fun? What's the point of having fun? This is an endless philosophical debate which has no conclusion. To summarize this discussion, everything you stated was based on your own opinion and perspective of the reality you live in. To mandate this onto others is beyond preposterous 😂 I will today chase away 10 birds and I'll do it in your name to make up for your silly behaviour online 😏

    Yeah, starting out slow and building up is key. Listen to your body and rest when needed. If you start too hard, you just end up injuring yourself...
    80k a day is a fine pace. But, stuff happens, so a hard and fast schedule should not be your master. Good luck and safe travels! Stop and smell the roses. :)

      Wir haben geplant mit 15€ am Tag zurecht zu kommen. Wegen der Inflation wird das aber knapp für uns und unseren bisherigen Reisestil.
      Kommt natürlich total auf den benötigten Komfort an. Wenn man sehr günstig selber kocht und nie eine Unterkunft nimmt reicht das bestimmt locker. Es ist aber sehr leicht mehr auszugeben.
      Versicherung haben wir separat zurückgelegt.
      Viel Erfolg, lass dich nicht unterkriegen!

    You might have figured this out by now, when you are very tired and still have many Km to go, get and drink a Coca Cola. The caffeine and sugar will get you to your camp site. You should plan a rest day after 4 days. Your bodies need to have a day off. I will ride no more than 240km about 4 days then take a day or two off. I try to plan to be in a big town where I can visit museums and see monuments.

      Hey Jean,
      while we are not very big Coke drinkers we have an incredible intake of chocolate bars and cookies :-)

    I have yet to see a fast E biker but I have however almost been mowed down by a few ultra cyclists who train I guess. They almost run anyone off the paths so irritating..if they're going to fly around they need to train on the road

    • @AmazingWorldBikeTour
      @AmazingWorldBikeTour  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes. Touring Germany was kind of specific as we did mostly use long distance cycling routes, that are frequented by so many people doing little day and weekend trips. These days they are often too narrow for the amount of people and e-bikes are generally on the wider side, not to mention us with fully loaded touring bikes.
      We feel like in Germany road cyclists tend to share the roads with cars, as our cycling infrastructure is quite often too bumpy and narrow for them. This upsets motorists as they often assume that only motorised vehicles may use the road they are on.

  • @markperry222
    @markperry222 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think you have planned to do too much from the beginning. I would maybe only have done 50km per day for the first two days. That way I can rest before my body is exhausted. My friend who cycled from the Netherlands to China had a target of around 60km per day, and if she did more, she did more. She also took rest days.

    • @AmazingWorldBikeTour
      @AmazingWorldBikeTour  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that sounds like a sensible approach. We just had no idea how big the strain is when cycling day after day.
      We will get better at this 😬

  • @bike4two810
    @bike4two810 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Well done you two, hope it gets better for you.
    Why only one front pannier on the orange bike? This will add to your fatigue if the weight isn’t balanced.
    However, way to just go for your goals.

    • @AmazingWorldBikeTour
      @AmazingWorldBikeTour  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot. This was the final test tour. We did not have all the equipment for a world tour since we were not 100% certain that we are cut out for all this :-)
      Actually 3 of the panniers were from a friend of ours, but she only had 1 small for the front.

      Thanks! Really? We did not get it measured as we bought it second hand. I do not feel an issue with the height of the seat. How to tell though? We are both just gaining experience in touring as it is fairly new for us. To me it feels like I would love the bike to be a little longer if that makes any sense?

      @joramvandervorst7715 thanks. We changed around my riding position a lot since shooting this footage. Main problem is that the frame is too short (not enough reach). Turns out I have short legs. I would need a different frame actually. We tried with much longer stems, but that brings the butt back as well, sitting on the nails of the Brooks.

    Good video
    Could you post your route please. Would you recommend this route for someone not from your area?
    Also interested in your equipment. Specifically, front rack and panniers. When I did my ride down the pacific coast last summer, I couldn’t get any shop to put on a front rack. Something about fiberglass forks not compatible with racks. made the bike back heavy.

    • @AmazingWorldBikeTour
      @AmazingWorldBikeTour  ปีที่แล้ว

      I recreated our route on komoot which we use for planning. You should be able to download the gps data from there even without login in:
      www.komoot.com/tour/987400006
      Please let me know if it works for you.
      We would recommend that route if you want to cross Germany north to south, but there are many dedicated long distance routes that should be just as good.
      If you are interested in cycling in Europe the "Eurovelo" routes are a great starting point!
      We will do some dedicated content about our equipment, what worked well in the future. I would imagine that fiberglass is too delicate to take the additional beating that comes with the extra weight of a rack and panniers.
      We use the "Tubus Tara" front rack and our panniers are from Ortlieb. No complaints.

    Wow! I'm going with a much lighter load: no panniers. Everything front/center mounted on the bike. I've planned a route that has many smaller cities and here in the U.S., we have truck stops! So you can always find one and they usually have very nice convenience stores and at least one restaurant (fast food yuk) where you can grab a bite.
    You're hungry because biking just 20 miles can burn over a 1,000 calories and you two are biking 3 times that every day!
    I would recommend energy bars and bananas and pickle juice (for cramp avoidance) while you're cycling.
    Again, I LOVE the 'real' feel of your videos; not over-edited. Just straight up raw footage! Fantastic!
    Another rookie mistake, when touring (the pros will tell you) is thinking about completing a 'set' number of km per day. 60 k per day is more than enough. That way you can 'stop and smell the roses,' which is why you're out there, right? And you should ALWAYS be a nice husband! When a woman gives you her time, her life, it deserves nothing less! Step up your game Mathias! :D
    Stay safe! Another great video!

      Yes, very light. I have racks front and rear with good-sized travel bags.
      Not taking cooking gear or much except rain gear, tent and hammock, couple changes of clothes, hygiene items, cold weather gear (jacket/pants/gloves), tools and medical emergency kit. It all fits centerline on the bike. The bags came with 'built-in' panniers but I found you can roll up your wet-weather gear, waterproof boots and light jackets in them and they zip right into the bags-so nothing hangs. :D
      I'll be utilizing Warm Showers, also and truck stops for showers (truckers always have extra shower credits to share) and my budget allows for one or two night a month in a paid room to rest my legs.
      Best to you both! Stay safe!
