I often use 3/8" flat/oval so it is NOT too thick when it is overlapped. Once you get to 1/2" flat/oval or 5/8" flat/oval now it is getting thick. It is best to use an exacto knife and thin it out, some on each side of the overlap so that it becomes one thickness. I would not suggest butting the ends together because chances are, you would not get it perfect and end up with a small gap. Guess I'll have to do a video on thinning out the rim. Hope this helps!
