It’s been alittle over three months since I’ve owned mine. I have about 3,000 miles now. I use the bike everyday. On road it’s fast especially in rally mode, corners very well on roads. I’ve leaned this bike like a super sport and it didn’t disappoint however I pushed it to its limit didn’t feel safe. On dirt it’s very capable, suspension is superb, in sand Traction control can interfere with the ride so I just turn ABS and TC off, it’s just a beautiful bike that will get you a lot of attention and complements. I’d choose the 890 adv r over the 1290 super adventure anyday for the style of riding I do. But the super adventure feels a bit more comfortable for longer distances and carrying a passenger is way more comfortable on the 1290 then 890.

Fly Racing FR5 boots - yeah snakes can be a worry in summer if you're walking around in the scrub. If you just leave them be everyone gets along fine though.
awesome video really well edited. would love to see a comparison with BM’s version. So many of these bigger adventure motors coming out with so many like myself getting off ride. well done.
How would you compare the wind protection on the 890 r versus the 1290R….I currently ride a 890 rally but the wind buffeting can drive me a bit crazy and am contemplating trading my rally for one.
I know what you mean. The screen is low to keep it out of the way while offroad riding, but the 290 is about the same as the 890 for wind buffeting. You can fit the much higher Adventure model screen to the R though and that solves the problem right away.
The most inteligent design. - Double equilibration shaft , for very low vibrations; - Low hanging fuel tanks; - No need for engine protection , because of the fuel tanks; The others don't seem to get it.
How do you say thock and keep a straight face? I gotta tell you mate, I cannot do it! Great video though and I really enjoyed it, the 890 is an amazing bike
Very good riding indeed! I see you also tested Tenere T700 . Could you be so kind and share your opinion about KTM 890 ADV R versus Tenere 700 when it comes to off road and also street riding , please ?
It deserves a longer explanation but I'll be as short as I can. The 890 is a better bike in the dirt when things get technical thanks to lower weight distribution and more robust suspension set-up. The T7 has a brilliant throttle to rear-wheel feel that allows you to steer with the back so very easy and makes fast open trails a lot of fun. Both have very great engines, but the 890's is more versatile thanks to the electronics. Both are quite comfortable but the T7 screen is better. Love the airfilter access on the 890 and the much greater fuel range too. On the road, the T7 perhaps feels more planted, but on twistie sections the 890 shifts direction easier. They're both offroad biased bikes, but also pretty good on the road. I only ever ride the road to get to more dirt though lol Both bikes feel very different to ride and it's not the straight comparison many people believe. If you love one you might not like the other at all. Personally, I'd be happy to own either but the 890 suits me just a little more. Hope that covers some of what you're after and thanks for watching!
@@advlife Thank you very much for reply ! I almost purchased Tenere 700 for myself . It's brilliant bike very ,very capable off road, looks fantastic , sounds awesome ! Once I was on the move I couldn't feel the weight of the bike at all , I was feeling like riding on a big dirt-bike , fantastic standing position and power delivery was very smooth for me and unbelievable traction on the rear wheel makes me want riding with power slides on every corner. The only thing that discouraged me was the high center of gravity which I could really feel whenever I stopped the bike . I am short leg guy and on uneven terrain if I needed to stop and I couldn't reach the ground I was leaning the bike to the side and...top center of gravity makes its job... the bike landed on the ground . During a day it was happened way to often to me and I was exhausted lifting the bike from the ground . Riding on the dry tractional ground is no problem but here in UK is raining a lot and the most terrain we have are slippery forest terrain or open but quite hilly and slippery terrain ( wet grass and wet chalk and clay ) . So ...for me this top weight distribution of the Tenere 700 was very noticeable during lifting the bike and during technical riding when occasionally I needed to reach the ground by foot. Because of that I temporarily crossed Tenere out from my list and I wonder whether the KTM 890 adventure R ( because of its low center of gravity ) is really noticeably easier to lift from the ground and ride in slow technical terrain ? I need to try KTM 890 Adventure R in this year on my own , but for now I am developing my riding skills on KTM 350 EXC . Keep doing reviews of Adventure bikes , you are doing it well !
@@advlife btw, how much have you already done on your KTM? what about technical issue? For me, looks like the best middle weight bike with one important cons - reliability of KTM. May be KTM rectified something from 2020-2021... by the way, how is the engine feels in terms of heat? someone is complying it's too hot.
@@kirillromazenko2799 I don't own that 890, but I've done a fair bit of riding on one and I've never noticed a heat issue on it nor the 790. The only consistent reliability issue I’ve personally encountered on the KTM and just yesterday on a Husky Norden is with the fuel gauge, which can show you have plenty of fuel right up until you run empty.

Awesome thank you
Great video Damo - I think you’ve just convinced me to go with a new 890. How good is Barry Rd/Hunter Rd!
Cheers mate - I never get tired of that route home!
You won’t be disappointed mate!! Had mine 6 months now, and still start grinning like an idiot when I know I’m off for a hoon 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Brown snake bite... You're in good shape, you should be able to make two or three days... You're welcome... Good stuff thanks for posting. Dwight. Glendale Arizona USA... Lots of room to ride THAT out here, mate... Hope your mate heals quickly...
So there's time to get a beer! ;) Thanks mate - he's healed up well and bought another bike (Tenere 700).
@@advlife A very good choice in my estimation... Thanks for taking the time to get back to me... 11:00 p.m. Wednesday evening the 26th my time reading this. Cheers
What boots are you rolling with? Do you guys ever worry about deadly snakes in AU? Cheers!
Fly Racing FR5 boots - yeah snakes can be a worry in summer if you're walking around in the scrub. If you just leave them be everyone gets along fine though.
I definitely buy
Nice job.
Great vid lads. Cheers 👍👍👍
Thanks John! Stoked you like it.
awesome video really well edited. would love to see a comparison with BM’s version. So many of these bigger adventure motors coming out with so many like myself getting off ride. well done.
Cheers Wesley! Which BM do you mean mate?
Excellent production… New subs …. 👊🏼👌🏼🖖🏼
Much appreciated!
Cool cool great video cheers
pissed myself laughing at the thock bit couldnt help but sub afterwards, cheers great vid
The are the furture mate! ha ha
Great video…greetings from Peru…
very nice video
How would you compare the wind protection on the 890 r versus the 1290R….I currently ride a 890 rally but the wind buffeting can drive me a bit crazy and am contemplating trading my rally for one.
I know what you mean. The screen is low to keep it out of the way while offroad riding, but the 290 is about the same as the 890 for wind buffeting. You can fit the much higher Adventure model screen to the R though and that solves the problem right away.
Wow... just... WOW
The most inteligent design.
- Double equilibration shaft , for very low vibrations;
- Low hanging fuel tanks;
- No need for engine protection , because of the fuel tanks;
The others don't seem to get it.
Looks like Yamaha was watching though with the new Tenere Rally. Not the same but similar tank concept.
@@advlife Not good enough for a new motorcycle. Yamaha should have come up with something superior to 890 adventure .
What I like about our skippy cousins,
Nah bullshit mate!!!
How do you say thock and keep a straight face? I gotta tell you mate, I cannot do it! Great video though and I really enjoyed it, the 890 is an amazing bike
wow amaizing friend....
Thanks SBRC!
@@advlife you are welcome
Do you prefer this over the Aprilia 660?
I only ever ride the road to get to more dirt though lol
Both bikes feel very different to ride and it's not the straight comparison many people believe.
The only consistent reliability issue I’ve personally encountered on the KTM and just yesterday on a Husky Norden is with the fuel gauge, which can show you have plenty of fuel right up until you run empty.
great video. Im trying to work out the best way to mount my gopro on my chin but cant get a great angle particularly whilst sitting. What adaptors are you using
I have a clip on mount but it doesn’t work with all helmet shapes so I just recently grabbed a cheap strap based mount off Amazon 👍🏻
