Hello Melissa. Welcome to my country. I really liked your video and I hope you feel at home in Malaga. I live in Galicia, (on the other side of the country). As time passes, you will realize that Spain, despite being a relatively small country, is very diverse and rich in different customs, languages, landscapes, climate, etc ... Hi Melissa, thanks for this insightful video. At the end you said "I'll do another video discussing downside of living in Malaga" but I think you haven't been able to do it yet. Looking forward to seeing that video soon ;)

I´m glad I watched this video especially because I was really put off Malaga by another video about made by a couple that said that Malaga was very dirty and that almost no locals spoke English (not that it is necessary for the locals to speak English, given that it´s Spain, but still it is helpful to be able to communicate if your Spanish is basic) but so different from what you said in your video.
I’m glad you found my video too! Everyone has different preferences and I can see why Malaga is not for everyone. Glad to contribute my pro-Malaga views!

Hello - is there a boardwalk throughout the coastline for walking and cycling? Or what area/town may have that? Also, are there a lot of parks big and small, green spaces, and hiking trails nearby? And lastly, trying to figure out for warm coastal living but not too too small (love shopping and movies sometimes) what is more affordable, Spain, Italy, Portugal or France - now sure how to research that or know what is the best choice for retirement someday with a very limited budget from US. Great vlog!
Hi Esther, yes there is a boardwalk. I’ve heard that people have cycled most of the way along the costa del sol along the beach, and Malaga has a nice walkway/bike paths along both beaches (east of centro and west of centro). There are many small parks, a few bigger parks, and we are very close to many mountain trails if you want to explore more nature. As far as affordability, housing prices are increasing lately but overall I think Southern Spain is still very affordable. Food is cheap. Rent is low compared to what I’m used to in Canada. Malaga has lots of shopping and entertainment. I’m probably biased but I think it’s a great place to settle, as long as you are prepared to learn Spanish and adjust to the culture shock. Good luck with your research!
@@melissamorse8454 thanks!! I speak spanish medium well as half Mexican but grew up mostly speaking English as i had an American father and raised in San Francisco. I keep hearing Portugal is a more affordable better choice but I don’t speak Portuguese and have never been while i have traveled in and fell in love with Spain, France and Italy.
I’ve never been to Portugal either so I can’t speak on that, but I have heard the same. Spanish in Andalucia is some of the hardest Spanish. They speak incredibly fast and don’t annunciate. A lot of slang. I’ve heard Portuguese people tend to speak English so it’s easier to get by in the beginning until you learn Portuguese, and speaking Spanish helps because it’s a similar language. I guess you’ll just have to visit to find out if you like it there!

Hi Melissa. You did a great job with this video. My wife and I are fellow Canadians, from the Fraser Valley in the Lower Mainland of BC. We are planning our first trip to Malaga and the Costa Del Sol and Costa de la Luz for the end of May and beginning of June of this year, for 3 weeks. I’m really wondering about accessibility to these other parts of this region in terms of best towns to stay, especially if renting a car and needing parking when doing so. Not sure if you or anyone has any recommendations or contacts on how to best manage this. We like to get out and explore but that usually means trying to find accessible accommodation locations that are convenient with a car. Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
Unfortunately we don’t have our Spanish drivers licenses so we have never driven in Spain. It is definitely the best way to explore though, since public transport is fairly limited outside the big cities. We’re doing a road trip to Gibraltar on Friday with some visitors on Friday so I guess we’ll find out about the parking situation. If I remember I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks for watching and commenting! Enjoy your trip!
Thank you for this video. What about school? What kind of life is there for children? Husband got a job offer in Malaga, but we have two little children and I don't know is that a good oportunity for us or not. We are from Bosnia and Hercegovina.
Unfortunately I don’t have any first hand experience with schools or life for children in Malaga. I know there are British/international schools in the area and I’ve heard they are good. My suggestion is to join the Expats in Malaga City Facebook group, and do a search. There have been lots of threads regarding schools. Good luck with your decision!
Curious if you connected with any expat communities? If yes could you share their webpage or Facebook info? Totally agree with the quality of the video and thoughtful outline of key topics. We are schedule to visit Malaga in mid to late February if Covid doesn’t derail the trip. Thank you so much
Good question! There are a few good Facebook groups. My favorite is “Expats in Malaga City”. This group is very highly organized and no trolls or in-fighting which I appreciate. It’s focuses 100% on Malaga City content only. There is another “Expats in Malaga” which covers both Malaga city and Costa Del Sol. There are a few other similar expat groups but I don’t find them as helpful. Meetup.com is another resource for meeting people in Malaga. To meet friends I used Bumble BFF (a spin off of the dating app Bumble) and met lots of great people there.
The Visigoths took control of Malaga in the 5th century AD, followed by the Moors. The Moors greatly influenced the city, introducing new architectural styles, such as the famous Alcazaba Fortress and the Gibralfaro Castle. The city also became an important cultural centre, with scholars and poets flocking to Malaga. Interesting how white folks leave out the Moors influence when talking about Spain.
My husbands company opened a new office here so we moved over for him to head up that project. We didn’t necessarily choose Malaga but we are thrilled that it’s where we ended up!
Malaga is wonderful as is Valencia ,you are very lucky 🍀 we would love to move there but unfortunately I think Brexit (which we voted against)has messed up our plans 🇬🇧
Yes, unfortunately a lot of people seem to be in your position unfortunately. You would have the same visa requirements as us Canadians. Good luck if you decide to try!
The Cathedral in Malaga has one tower. The second tower was not completed because the money for the project was given to the US to help pay for their war of independence.
I can't explain this, but in Andalusia there's something in the air.. it is the REAL Spain.. trust me..if you have been there , you are hooked for lifetime, and you wish you where born there..
The "REAL Spain"? Are we Basques, Catalans, Asturians, Castilians, Aragonese or Galicians not Spanish? And we have absolutely NOTHING to do with those stale topics of that "REAL Spain"

I live up in Benalmadena pueblo. Best place in the world . Come visit 👍
Can't wait to get there for a visit!
What motivated you to move to Malaga if you dont mind sharing?
My husbands company opened a new office here so we moved over for him to head up that project. We didn’t necessarily choose Malaga but we are thrilled that it’s where we ended up!
Malaga is wonderful as is Valencia ,you are very lucky 🍀 we would love to move there but unfortunately I think Brexit (which we voted against)has messed up our plans 🇬🇧
Yes, unfortunately a lot of people seem to be in your position unfortunately. You would have the same visa requirements as us Canadians. Good luck if you decide to try!
Exactly. Who has a monthly £2000 income?
Thanks for your very informative video. I wanted to buy a vacation place in Malaga/Marbella, would you please help me since you live there now?
Thank you! Unfortunately we don’t arrive until mid-June, and I don’t know enough about real estate to help. Good luck in your journey, though! 🍀
cool
I am wondering if you are still in Malaga and if you like it.
Yes, we are still in Malaga. We love it and have no regrets with our move.
Thanks great Video. Do you have any recommendations on getting a job?
Unfortunately, I don't, sorry.
A big change from Nova Scotia EH !
You got that right!
How is temperature end of september it’s ok to traveling"¿
Yes! People still go to the beach in september. It's better than july or august because it.s not that hot, and not that crowded. Perfect time
❤️💛💛❤️💚
How did you emigrate to Spain? What visa are you using?
We are here on a work visa for my husbands job.
The Cathedral in Malaga has one tower. The second tower was not completed because the money for the project was given to the US to help pay for their war of independence.
Thanks for the history lesson!
Málaga(no, Malaga) Nice vídeo!!!
Very informative. As a vegetarian, all the dead flesh made me sad, though 😪
You must spend a lot of time being sad then?
hi its charlie
Hi Charlie. Thanks for watching!
But you should learn spanish because it is disrespectful to live for a prolonged time there and expect everyone to speak english with you!
Yes, of course. We are taking lessons now.
I can't explain this, but in Andalusia there's something in the air.. it is the REAL Spain.. trust me..if you have been there , you are hooked for lifetime, and you wish you where born there..
Wow, that’s high praise! I definitely felt it when we visited and hoped to move there someday! And now we are!
The "REAL Spain"? Are we Basques, Catalans, Asturians, Castilians, Aragonese or Galicians not Spanish? And we have absolutely NOTHING to do with those stale topics of that "REAL Spain"
Very nice video about my city. But please, do not use Mexican hats as if It was something spanish xD
Thanks! I actually removed the Mexican hat in more recent videos I made after this one.
Fantastic video !
Thank you!
