To show you how much times have changed, they were quite common in homes in the 50’ and 60s as the laundry room was in the basement and yes that is below grade and not the walkout basements you have today. My grandmother had one and we used to drop stuff down it all the time as kids. Now it is considered a luxury item. Nice house and good luck on those 14 babies..
