People with negative comments are the same ones paying someone to have their car painted. The fact you painted 2 cars now, on your own, with body work and no experience is insanely dope beyond words. Super happy for ya homie🤘
Definitely a steep learning curve to all of this but only way to get better is to get after it 🙌 the 1% of negative comments are from the ones who wouldn’t dare to try
As somebody who paints cars everyday I understand the grind on making an absolutely perfect looking vehicle through repair. Good on you for being thorough and fixing all the little details. Proof is in the pudding when the paint gets laid out
It's honestly been awhile since I watched your long form vids & I'm proud of the progress you've made Tanner! I remember when you were patchin up something on the 07 awhile back & this vid blew that work out of the water! Seriously you're the jack of all trades!
Well welcome back 🥳 how’ve ya been? 🙌 And thank you! Definitely has quite the learning curve to doing all of this. But pumped with how things are progressing 🎉
This looks so sick dude! Don’t even listen to the obviously salty comments. Constructive criticism is always welcome but butthurt comments don’t aport anything. I got my speed3 painted by a friend who runs a body shop and we did a really fast turn around, did all prep off site myself then drove in on a Friday evening and drove the car off Sunday afternoon. The clear looked much like this, he purposely went heavy on the last coat to leave material to sand. I waited a couple of weeks, maybe a month in the Florida sun then went to town on wet sand, buff and polish. Had that thing looking like a mirror! Can’t wait to see this one done!
After your high build, use a epoxy primer, it stops the fibre glass absorbing water and causing micro blisters and stops corrosion on metal parts. Key sand but don’t rub through, if you do, re prime those areas and key sand again.
Final product on your own body work is an unbelievable feeling i am super stoked to see you pumped about this! What a beauty- hope to see this at meet 🤘
The paint laid out phenomenal. Seeing the car fully in World Rally Blue is amazing. Awesome job, must feel great seeing it come to life! Can't wait for more progress!
It looks in the video you need some more pressure, it seems to be spraying very grainy. You need to spray everything WET so that’s the primer, base, clear, sealer. It’ll lay out way nicer. Also another trick you could have done is after you have say 2 coats of base on, let it full flash and come back and lightly hand sand it with 800 to get rid of all the texture. Then put say 2 more nice wet coats of base and then clear. It’s also hard to tell, but from the video it almost looked as if the base wasn’t fully dry before you cleared which is gunna end up with all sorts of issues. Another tip, if you plan on doing a hardcore cut and buff on the entire car, I’d do it while everything is apart much easier to clean up compound and not risking damaging sealant gaskets from hitting it with the buffer. Just for reference I spray spies Hecker solvent. 22 psi is what I’m spraying sealer at, 18 psi is what I spray my basecoat at and 26 psi is what I’m spray my clear at. Obviously different paints require/like different pressures just wanted to give you an idea of what pressure i spray at, that’s all with DV1 guns. 1.3 tips.
Definitely will keep all this in mind, I think I had mine bumped up to 30 PSI thought painting this one. I think one issue for me is avoiding spraying everything wet because I’m concerned about getting runs in everything.
@ ya it can definitely be a challenge to spray everything nice and wet when your not in a booth with airflow that is helping everything flash and it’s a controlled environment.
Good on you bro. To add to tons of tips here, get a pressure guage that is at the gun, the pressure changes from the reg to there. Personally I flow coat most everything i do too. It's much easier to me than sand and polish
@@Smeedia that's right, you do sand anyway but it's only once with 800/1000 and it can be a quick wetsand on the already masked car. The next coat or two of clear goes on so well that you barely need to touch the paint again. It's also much quicker on runs or dirt. Cleaning is quick on the painted surface too I usually just spray and do it the next day on the fairly soft clear. This also works for single stage. Either way, just keep doing what you're doing and you'll get painting down. It's practice and those little things you learn each time. Can't wait to see the car finished! Keep up the epic work
Bro your hype over how good it looks is how I felt today with my WRB fozzy. My tuner and I finally resolved a spark blow out issue I've been chasing for months, all those frustrations feel like nothing after such a big win, congrats on the wide body its freaking awesome. All those small blemishes will literally buff out, freaking win!

Appreciate the support my mans! I always try and show the ups and downs. Even if my mistakes help someone else avoid it. It’s a win 🎉 I try not to use so much but for all the painting it’s better than listening to the compressor run on and off 😅
People who got nothing to say but bad stuff shouldn’t be talking like bro thats his build leave Tanner alone. All that aside can’t wait to hear this thing 🔥
Hey, you did a lovely job. Some pointers for better results use a bigger nozzle and more air pressure, and for the last clear coat, you can reduce it a bit with thinner and remember that what you see in turns of reflection at the last clear coat stage it will be the final result once its dry. Well done, and I love it ❤.
you should look into a diesel or kerosene heater they work amazing and cost almost nothing to run would warm your shop in about 45 minutes and keep it warm for 5-7 hours
I use this gun almost every day sir. Helpful advice here, open that fan and fluid all the way up, most 4:1 clears won’t atomize well with a 1.3 tip unless you’re running at least 29-30 psi, some I’ve sprayed I had to bump it past 35 to get it to lay flat. Honestly though I’d invest in a little better of a clear gun, my personal favorite is the Sagola 4600
Dude, get the iwata gun. I’m 100% sure you’re going to think you are a god at spraying. They are that amazing! Low pressure at 30psi and sprays phenomenal. There would be no question on whether you think its dry or you have the right pattern or what makes you doubt you laying paint. I’d be hearing about it while you’re spraying on the video. Get one and spray those panels with it.
@ yes keep it up. You have motivated me to do a lot of work on my car myself of course still not confident doing wiring and engine build just yet but man seeing you tackle to body work and doing some mods I am like whattttt. I gonna try that. And thanks for being open with the good the bad and the ugly . As a lot of TH-camrs make things seems sooo much easier than it actually is.
Great job… Next time you do a paint job, get a professional sprayer to do over watch and help dial in your settings and technique as you go…. It’s worth loads to stepping up your game.
I don’t think I know anyone who’s a professional out here unfortunately. Linda just changing techniques based off YT videos and comments from everyone 😅
Looks awesome my guy. Like you said only the second car you have painted. People will always hate while never trying to do something on their own and learn something.
I like to imagine that the good fitment was partially my doing for sending you the photos of the trimmed kits and bad tail light fitment but im sure you would have figured it out yourself anyway bahaha. looks amazing you must be proud.
Man this is making me want to take on another diy paint project. Looking great for diy! The turnout is what you should expect. Eastwood paint isn't exactly a top shelf product. Their clear is way too thick imo. Reducing it more than what it calls for and fine tuning your speed when spraying will definitely help alleviate some orange peel. You can always flow coat too. Just remember that diy paint jobs can just be as nice as professional. It all comes down to the correcting work. Keep it up! This car is going to be awesome!!!
How far down would you thin out the clear before spraying? Definitely something I’d consider trying on some of the other panels. 👀 I’m hyped with the outcome so far given the space and equipment we are working with 😅🥳
@Smeedia IIRC the TDS says you can add 1 part reducer, but I'd at least go 4:1.5:1 on the ratio. It's just going to depend on your temperature and humidity levels where you're spraying, and the gun you're using. Practicing on test panels is definitely the best way to dial it all in. I sprayed a 2002 WRX in a 2 car garage, so I feel your pain. 😂
thank you sir for inspiring us all and taking time away from your family to bring us this quality content. I will be painting a car over had for over 20 years this spring and between watching you and paint society I've built up the courage to take this task on. take care and i am excited to see this car becoming something special.
Loving the content and commitment to the project. Regards to painting my only advice would be to open the fan a bit more when it comes to metallics very prone to tiger striping if fan spread is shorter. Same with clear slightly speed up the passes and don’t worry too much about walking the panel but overall fantastic job 🙏
@@Smeedia yeh it’s a fine balance but you will notice a lot less material usage and your passes with be bigger so quicker method of painting. Doing great for being new to painting and honestly practice makes perfect. Lighting is your greatest allie when comes to clear coat can watch your flow so much better which is probably the reason for left side coming out better. But honestly can’t fault your work doing great can’t paint for the build up now shell is painted

She’s coming together! 🔥you’re getting better at painting every time and learning new techniques etc. Got it Rex in Australia is selling carbon roofs atm! Should check them out!
Ive only ever sprayed like 15-20 things with a paint gun and automotive grade paint so im an amateur with over 1000 hours of watching other people... so i hope this is good advice but i think the only things you still havent perfected is your stroke, do the full run across the piece making sure the spray pattern leaves the panel, then, flick your wrist to fan the gun out and away from the panel while you change direction and then come back for your 50% overlap and go all the way back across and flick your wrist again while you change direction working your way from top to bottom or bottom to top, keep the movement smooth and steady like a robot arm would and adjust the angle of each stroke while you move all the way across the panel to be shooting directly at the panel(like around the hips is a good example of this). the most important thing here is that you leave the panel at each end of the stroke and only end a stroke when you arent spraying on the panel. i say this becuase stopping in the middle means youll develop high spots and uneven coats which may show more and more in subsequent coats, or youll have dry spots in some areas where the paint already began to flash off and then you end right on top of that creating kind of a ( shaped dry spot spraying at an angle(not directly) from where you want the paint to land and failing to overlap properly will also cause those dry spots.... basically the gun vaporizes the paint while its in the air into tiny particles.... if it spends too much time in the air it begins to dry and then lays on still wet spots and dries stuck to the the top of it making it look like flat spots instead of gloss it takes time practice and patience to paint a panel right and you are so close to having it perfected car came out sweet otherwise.... hope it helps. i hit that like.
I think my biggest concern and this could just be an internal monologue. Is that if I spray too much clear I’ll end up with some nasssssty runs that I wouldn’t want to have to deal with later. I think it’s still just finding that balance point in technique. We working on it though 🥳
Color in clear is often called Tri-Coat if the primer is also toned. Car companies charge premiums for Tri-coats. The only problem with them is matching or fixing any damage.... is almost impossible to match again. PS - Looks fantastic bud. You've made some exceptional progress painting, but I bet you see why I hate doing it for work. ONLY for passion projects.
Great work man I really enjoy watching the process. When I was finalizing my wide body panels on my 99 Impreza coupe I kept telling myself if I get it to 90% perfect then that's good enough for me. I feel there are 2 types of car enthusiast owners: builders and buyers lol.
You inspire me to paint my own cars, but it scares me how much money and prep goes in, it also doesn't that i don't really have a space to do it in. Been loving this build, cant wait to see it done and you enjoying it!
Pearl and metallic is pretty forgiving with a dryer spray in that it doesn't show up much but does ruin the smoothness in the clear coat which can be wet sanded and buffed out. At least in my experience
good job dude thing is looking nice. spending all the time on paint and body is pain but worth it. i dont miss it lol used to paint some aircraft and components. maybe mix in a little gold/silver pearl pigment next time. WRBP
I think it’s dawning on me how stressful a build like this could be. I’d love to tackle a project of this caliber on my own some day. In my mind I’m like, yah I can do this but the amounts of testicular fortitude required. Sheesh 😮💨 bro we’ll all be super stoked and happy for you when you get this one buttoned up. It really has been an insane journey following your progress. Might sound kinda kooky but you really are an inspiration! Hats off sir! 🫡
Hey Tanner, be careful using a propane heater in an enclosed space as CO could be produced from the heater. Might want to have a CO monitor to make sure you don’t reach toxic levels. By the way car is looking awesome and excited to see it completed.
Damn the 22b is starting to look minty👌, it really coming along I cant wait to see the engine go in. always look forward to your content, Keep up the good work Tanner.
Car looks good love it, only suggestions I have and seen and been taught from other painters is to let go of the trigger and don't constantly hold it cuz it creates an extra layer in the one spot but also not 100% if you have a reason with your set up cuz obviously it still worked lol
F the noise. This work is no joke! And painting has so many variables…. All we can do is try to limit them from the comments to lift yah! Good sh!t man
Watching that WRB get laid down and having the car go from grey to blue was extremely satisfying. The first song was fire till like 11:43 when the next one came on. I've heard that one on so many different channels. Some of the excitement was lost during the clear coat process though. My mans had to drop a comment about pizza, I know a thing or two on that subject since I live in the pizza capital of the country. Tanner if you ever find yourself somewhere on the eastern seaboard, try and find a Pepe's Pizza. They recently began opening locations along the east coast, I think they have something like a dozen plus at this point. The original Frank Pepe's Apizza is in New Haven, CT, possibly the oldest pizzeria in the country and its fuckin bomb.
Seeing all this progress on this thing really makes me want to try and body work the giant dent in my quarter panel and get it one color. May try to paint the fenders and hood scoop and trunk and see if I can get the new subaru silver to somewhat match the factory old silver 😆
Hey man nice video, you have answered my question before and thank you. I just got an accessport and went on the stage 1 tune with an air oil separator but get huge amounts of knock and dam dropping. Last night got -6.8 knock and 0.75 dam. No mods to the car other than axle back muffler delete and aos which don’t rlly contribute to the tune.
This thing's got me wanting to buy a junker and put the works into it so badly. Probbably a pain in the moment, but seein that blue gets me way too excited lol
Love you work mate and can’t wait to see it all done, just a question can you video on your air compressor with the water trap system? And do you still get moisture to your paint gun? Cheers

What pressure do you suggest for clear? I’ve seen answers all over the place. I think I had this right around 30 or so PSI 👀
@Smeedia 30 PSI is very good, then your gun nozzle can be bigger for smoother spray or reducing clear a tad more.
And always make sure to keep your gun distance same once you spray, as your hand is going closer to the wide body arch where you have the clear run.

She’s coming together! 🔥you’re getting better at painting every time and learning new techniques etc. Got it Rex in Australia is selling carbon roofs atm! Should check them out!
Absolutely fantastic work, you should be extremely proud. If I had one critique it would be that’s it not mine 😂👌🏻
lol appreciate it my man! Things coming along swimmingly 🥳
Beautiful
🥳🥳🥳
Ive only ever sprayed like 15-20 things with a paint gun and automotive grade paint so im an amateur with over 1000 hours of watching other people... so i hope this is good advice but i think the only things you still havent perfected is your stroke, do the full run across the piece making sure the spray pattern leaves the panel, then, flick your wrist to fan the gun out and away from the panel while you change direction and then come back for your 50% overlap and go all the way back across and flick your wrist again while you change direction working your way from top to bottom or bottom to top, keep the movement smooth and steady like a robot arm would and adjust the angle of each stroke while you move all the way across the panel to be shooting directly at the panel(like around the hips is a good example of this). the most important thing here is that you leave the panel at each end of the stroke and only end a stroke when you arent spraying on the panel.
i say this becuase stopping in the middle means youll develop high spots and uneven coats which may show more and more in subsequent coats, or youll have dry spots in some areas where the paint already began to flash off and then you end right on top of that creating kind of a ( shaped dry spot
spraying at an angle(not directly) from where you want the paint to land and failing to overlap properly will also cause those dry spots.... basically the gun vaporizes the paint while its in the air into tiny particles.... if it spends too much time in the air it begins to dry and then lays on still wet spots and dries stuck to the the top of it making it look like flat spots instead of gloss
it takes time practice and patience to paint a panel right and you are so close to having it perfected
car came out sweet otherwise.... hope it helps. i hit that like.
I think my biggest concern and this could just be an internal monologue. Is that if I spray too much clear I’ll end up with some nasssssty runs that I wouldn’t want to have to deal with later. I think it’s still just finding that balance point in technique. We working on it though 🥳
@@Smeedia clear is a different beast all together lol
Tell me why i was really liking that base coat, like a nardo grey... 🔥
The primer grey did not look bad at all 🔥
Just disregard those e-commerce keyboard gangsters talking crap! Mad props for doing it yourself and working to perfect you technique!
Only way to get better is to get at it 💪
You are an inspiration dude 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Oh baby! This is a great milestone for the build. Keep it up!
Now when can actually start reassembling everything 🔥
I double dog dare you to now paint the whole compressor WRB 😂
Lmao wouldn’t look bad 😂
Remember when you wet sand, try to avoid any corners or edges
Going to mask off edges so I don’t get too close 😅
Color in clear is often called Tri-Coat if the primer is also toned. Car companies charge premiums for Tri-coats. The only problem with them is matching or fixing any damage.... is almost impossible to match again.
PS - Looks fantastic bud. You've made some exceptional progress painting, but I bet you see why I hate doing it for work. ONLY for passion projects.
Yeah I wouldn’t do this for anyone else or another project unless it was to this caliber again 😂😅
Also…. So happy this car is WRB and not white
Would look amazing either way but you know…. It’s just right
The WRB is just classic 🔥
Great work man I really enjoy watching the process. When I was finalizing my wide body panels on my 99 Impreza coupe I kept telling myself if I get it to 90% perfect then that's good enough for me. I feel there are 2 types of car enthusiast owners: builders and buyers lol.
looks good bro, can't wait to see this GC in all its glory
You inspire me to paint my own cars, but it scares me how much money and prep goes in, it also doesn't that i don't really have a space to do it in.
Been loving this build, cant wait to see it done and you enjoying it!
Pearl and metallic is pretty forgiving with a dryer spray in that it doesn't show up much but does ruin the smoothness in the clear coat which can be wet sanded and buffed out. At least in my experience
This will now lead to streamlined progress 💪🏻
Hopefully 😅
good job dude thing is looking nice. spending all the time on paint and body is pain but worth it. i dont miss it lol used to paint some aircraft and components. maybe mix in a little gold/silver pearl pigment next time. WRBP
It’s fun for like the first 60% then afterwards you just don’t wanna do it 😂
You should be super proud of your accomplishments with this car! Thing is gonna be too sweet.
Car is looking great. So hyped
The blue makes it look soooo much better 😍
Looks great.. be careful with the propane they should be used outdoors
Thank you 🥳
I have ventilation in the shop and I would frequently open the door 🫡
Hey Tanner, be careful using a propane heater in an enclosed space as CO could be produced from the heater. Might want to have a CO monitor to make sure you don’t reach toxic levels. By the way car is looking awesome and excited to see it completed.
The car is looking amazing. I love it.
She coming along 🥳
That's all you Tanner. Gotta love that enthusiasm
amazing, great work!
Thank you 🥳🥳
Damn the 22b is starting to look minty👌, it really coming along I cant wait to see the engine go in. always look forward to your content, Keep up the good work Tanner.
Appreciate it Ben! 🥳 once our heads are done it’s go time for the engine!
This is amazing. Super proud of you homie.
Thanks duuuude, been a nightmare getting this thing sorted 😅
Can’t wait to see it on the streets 👀 I remember freaking out when I saw blue going down canyon 😂
Your wallpaper is dope ❤
Eyyy thank you 🙌
Car looks good love it, only suggestions I have and seen and been taught from other painters is to let go of the trigger and don't constantly hold it cuz it creates an extra layer in the one spot but also not 100% if you have a reason with your set up cuz obviously it still worked lol
I let off the trigger a bit so it only sprays air but still a learning process 😅
@Smeedia yeah I use spray paint so no judgment here lol
I am in love with this. Such a beautiful car makes me wanna cry 😂
Big day, buddy. _BIG FUCKING DAY!!_
🥳🥳🥳🥳
F the noise. This work is no joke! And painting has so many variables…. All we can do is try to limit them from the comments to lift yah! Good sh!t man
That thing is lookin so good!
So excited with how this thing is looking now 😍
Bro I want to school for auto body and your work is super spot on bro for someone that didn’t
For my first time I’m hyped with it, definitely room for improvement with everything though 🙌
@ I know you got the skills to hold it down
I believe u need sanding blocks. Looks way better now!
He got a pretty decent collection of them now 😅
Watching that WRB get laid down and having the car go from grey to blue was extremely satisfying.
Hell yea man!! Love seeing the fruits of the Labor.
Paint work blue me away. Wooot!!!
I see what you did there 😂
U provide the great work and hours of entertainment, ill add my horrible puns and appreciation.
I say send it 👀 pick up a clapper 👀
You are going to keep the impact bar under the back seat?
Might as well, I don’t see a reason to remove it 😅
Epic!! it looks glorious!
Stoaked with how the paint and kit came out 😍
Love you work mate and can’t wait to see it all done, just a question can you video on your air compressor with the water trap system? And do you still get moisture to your paint gun? Cheers
Love 02C 😍😍
Can’t go wrong with WRB 😍
I'm excited for you! Can't wait to see the final product
I can’t wait to see this thing with the carbon roof and everything 😍
Speechless
🥳🥳🥳
Body work is fun for the first 80% then last 20% sucks.
This is the truest statement I’ve read 😂
