  • Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port (literally "Saint John [at the] Foot of [the] Pass"; Basque: Donibane Garazi; Spanish: San Juan Pie de Puerto) is a commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in south-western France close to Ostabat in the Pyrenean foothills. The town is also the old capital of the traditional Basque province of Lower Navarre. Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port is also a starting point for the French Way Camino Francés, the most popular option for travelling the Camino de Santiago.
    The town lies on the river Nive, 8 km (5.0 mi) from the Spanish border, and is the head town of the region of Cize (Garazi in Basque). The town's layout is essentially one main street with sandstone walls encircling. It is about 50 kilometres (31 mi) by air and 75 kilometres (47 mi) on road away from Pamplona (Basque: Iruña), the capital of Upper Navarre, across the Spanish border.

    Very nice video once again. The Basque country on either side is incredible with its own style of architecture and scenery. And the best food.

      Indeed , the style of architecture in this region is so unique and beautiful. Many towns around here are all worth a visit. We only hope we could film them all.

    Great Video. Good memories. I like how the cat guides you along the wall, it knows what's up

      Thanks for coming by. This was filmed in our first trip to the North (of Spain). Honestly it could have been done better. We're still learning and trying. 😀

    Another great video. Thank you, boys for the opportunity to 'walk' around a nice little French town (or almost a village) about which I knew nothing.
    Can you please tell me if the Basques in Spain and France have the same language? Do they understand each other?

    • @BABeenHere
      @BABeenHere  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks buddy. Yes the Basque language is called Euskera, it's a language older than both Spanish and French. It's a language not related to any other languages in the world. And they still speak Euskera today.

      @@BABeenHere , interesting. Thanks for an answer.

      my mother is spanish-basque, so i think i can safely answer. YES, basques in spain and france would mostly be able to understand each other, assuming they both actually speak euskera. there is a dialect continuum within euskera, though, so someone from bilbao might have a difficult time understand a native basque speaker from, say, san-jean-pied-de-port
      worth it to note that there are far more basque speakers in spanish basque country than french basque country.

    It would be nice if you tell the audience what you are photographing

      Yes you're right. We started adding captions in later episodes. But not this one.

      Isn't it cute? I was worrying that me getting too close would bother the cat, but it seemed that cutie wanted me to follow it. Then it spotted a bug or something, so it's making that chattering sound. So cute. 🐈🐈🐈
