    Gosh it is so heartwarming that he has paid such close attention to the tikanga and values of Maori, Pasefika and Pakeha New Zealanders. Clearly Aotearoa has a special place in his heart. Very moving.❤👍😊

    Kiwi is a generic term for a New Zealand person. It is a term that has no race. A Kiwi can be born in NZ or migrate to NZ from anywhere in the world. The only criteria required is that you live in NZ or you used to and you still see NZ as your home despite moving overseas.

    4:07 Correction - Maoris are Kiwis, along with all other NZ citizens. They are not islanders! The term for a white New Zealander is Pakeha.

    The dumplings in the boil up are called 'dough-boys'. Never really thought about the etymology of that. And also, like others have said, 'Kiwi' is a culture, not a race like Maori etc. If you live here and take on our values, you become Kiwi :)

    Those “dumplings” are doughboys. The most prized possession in a boil up, usually the first item to run out before anything else too..and I know my boy here had some fried bread 😅

    And the carvings you were taking about on the marae brother they're called tukutuku panels 😁 and each individual tukutuku panel has a history that is unique to both the tribe it represents and the carver

    Kumara, or Kumala- sweet potato, taro or talo , our taro is not the small mini variety, we eat different types of bananas like plantain types as well, yams, or ufi, our island yams are huge, not finger sized, breadfruit- ulu or mei, is popular. U can get banana or taro or ulu chips as well.

      Australian and New Zealand soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice are buried together as "ANZACS" in the fields of France. Ideology of those days was clearly different to today's lot.

      If you do visit make sure you go to the South Island ( north Island is lovely too) ...if possible get the ferry from Wellington to Picton as the ferry sails into the Marlborough Sounds to arrive in Picton. The South Island is ideal for a road trip, quiet roads with epic grand scenery. Mountains and lakes lovely vineyards, the lovely west coast drive, pancake rocks, Franz Josef and Fox glaciers ( I like central Otago Queenstown, Arrowtown, Wanaka - visit the Cardrona Pub...). We just moved from Auckland to Dunedin. 👍

    Dumplings, Asian stuff inside a filling of your choice meats or veg or both, doughboy European, style simple, just usually flour, b:powder, pinch salt in a boil up it rises in size I then like to slice open and add bit of butter, see it melt yummie 👍,then we have the Maori one we call mutu mutu standed ingredient flour n water (simpla)lol ,in a boil up it doesn't rise ,I nead mixture then ripping flat pieces pending what size you like, I like ripping away from the neaded dough medium flat pieces,and like the doughboy, abit of butter see it melt koerawei ?(yum) adds flavor to the Kai, so to you sir ! Enjoy your stay in AOTEAROA(NZ)HAVE A GOOD KAI(FEED)LOL😋👍l8tas.(see ya)

    Unfortunately a lot of Samoan and Maori suffered diabetes because of the volume of the foods they eat. That's big health issue around Maori and Samoan culture now a days.

      Maori don’t eat as much food as Islanders, diabetes is a problem because our genetics aren’t used to having so much sugar regularly. Another factor is a lot of families are poor therefore they cannot afford to eat healthy foods regularly, this is slowly changing though.

    NZ is a polynesian/european island nation. europeans since colonization make up the majority of the population. polynesians make up the next major ethnic group. but in modern times, NZ is much more diverse than in the old days. asia is third in population and then you have a mix of other ethnical groups.

      'kiwi' is just an informal term for new zealander which identifies your nationality. if you born and raised in NZ, your a kiwi. if your from overseas and become a citizen your a kiwi. if you come and live here, stay indefinitely but aren't a citizen you're not a kiwi (over-stayer.)

    Maori language was whiped out of the kids if they spoke maori language at school we call that the lost generation. My grandmother on my Fathers side went to shcool when she was five and on her 1st day got whipped so she never went back ever.She learnt english language through reading the Bible,
    So my father never spoke and i understand but vaguely speak and i am teaching my kids👌☝️😎
