    Saw that rocker arm adjustment video from Ellison's Machine Shop a while back and have been using that technique ever since. Absolutely ingenious!

    I was taught to write the firing order down put the last 4under the first 4 in the firing order with hydro lifters. So when #1 is top dead center intake stroke #6 is top dead center exhaust stroke. And so on making just 4 lifter. adjustments

    I certainly am lost on that one. It's been many years for me. If I remember right I had the luxury of adjusting sometimes with the intake off so I could visually see the pair of lifters all the way down and surely on the base. To set your zero lash. Would that be right??

    • @hutchhiperf
      @hutchhiperf  ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need to see that with this method. Put the timing mark on zero and just keep turning the crank 90 degrees until all are adjusted.

    What's the breaking procedure on those roller ? Thanks

    • @hutchhiperf
      @hutchhiperf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically, there's no break in for Roller Lifters like there is for Flat Tappets. The Rings are a different story. Those need to be bedded under load to seat to the cylinder walls.

    WHAT about if you use Rhoads variable lifters?

    • @hutchhiperf
      @hutchhiperf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You know that's a year ago. The engine is together and in the car. Morel lifters have a good reputation, and quite a few companies use them and put their own logo on them.

    quick question ,i use Johnson hydraulic roller lifters on a 400 Pontiac ,is 3/4 of a turn apply to all hydraulic rollers ?

    • @hutchhiperf

      That's the usual. 1/2 to 3/4 turn. Check with the manufacturer and see what their recommendation is.

      I'm cheap, I drill a smaller hole 90deg from the original one in the cam bearings and install them myself in the correct orientation.

  • @rickyouthouse9583
    @rickyouthouse9583 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see you have installed your oil valley tray do the roller lifters roll on the center of the cam lobe or are they off center of the cam lobe i ask because there is a picture someone posted showing the roller lifters running off to one side of the lobe i don't know who's cam he is using but he is using the same lifters you are

    • @hutchhiperf
      @hutchhiperf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looked to me like they were centered on the lobe, but to be honest I never looked that close.

    If you change roller rockers and push rods , is it necessary to change cam?

    • @hutchhiperf
      @hutchhiperf  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @underdoggtvwelovetheunderd9645 no. There are plenty of rocker swaps and upper valve train kits around. You should consult an engine builder or machine shop for better instruction and advise.

    • @hutchhiperf
      @hutchhiperf  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Blessed_be_Israel No. If you do, your fighting the hydraulic pressure in the lifter instead of the spring. Oil the outside and do your adjustments and then prime the engine before start. That will get oil to the lifters.

  • @ben68442

    Hutch- how tall are those rocker studs you are using. Would they be 1.75 effective thread length? I see many lengths listed on summit. I think I'm going with the Harland Sharp rockers as well.

      This isn't a rocker rail. They're individual rockers, so you have to do it this way.

    There's a engine GM should've kept Oldsmobile,at least if not the cars, Oldsmobile engines are more advanced than Chevrolet engines, their bow tie blocks were Chevys best engine,455 rocket engines were built for torque and durability, would be nice to see those engines being reproduced today by somebody why is it everybody and their grand mother wants to make billions of replacement engines and parts for Chevy engines bow tie blocks and LS swap kit Oldsmobile engines are still the best long since their demise.
