I fell in love with this piece after seeing The Deer Hunter movie in 1979 aged 20. Then in 1983 I bought the sheet music (no tab or videos back then) and I learned it very slowly over about 3 to 4 months as I was (and still not) a good reader. Then another 2 of months listening to John Williams on vinyl till it almost wore out, trying to apply all the nuances. The end result was worth it. Not quite as masterful as Tavi but reasonably close. Then hard times came and I sold the expensive classical guitar and just forgot the piece entirely. Now I am teaching my 9 year old son to play and have realized I must learn Cavatina once again as it is a timeless classic for the guitar. Thanks for the trip down memory lane and for the inspiration to pursue my love of the classical guitar once again.
+Russell Hall I remember studying this piece for up to eight hours a day for a week just so that I could play it as a solo at an ensemble rehearsal one week after I acquired the music. I was by far the youngest guitarist in the group and, back in the day, Myers' Cavatina was like a red rag to a bull. This delightful piece still evokes wonderful memories of childhood.
I too fell in love with this piece in 1979. I was 18 or 19. Piano was my instrument, although, after watching this version, I might have to pull out my guitar to learn this. It will be good for keeping my mind sharp at least. This musician makes it look relatively easy. I've seen others on TH-cam through the years make it look more difficult. I can't find my sheet music of the piece, but I listen to it periodically, especially when my soul needs soothing. It's been several years since I last played it and I miss playing it. It is timelessly beautiful.
This is by far my favorite interpretation of this song. Listen after 53 seconds. He plays the underlying strings not just the solo. Not even John Williams does that. And this is the exact right tempo. This piece is so often played to fast. This is perfection from start to finish. Thank you Tavi.
I know that the above comment is 4 years ago but it is so wrong. Of course John Williams plays all "the underlying strings" as well as the melody, (what the OP referred to as "the solo"). The piece was written for the film "The Walking Stick" by Stanley Myers and he scored an expanded version which John Williams was the first to record. Apart from that I agree! I really enjoyed Tavi's interpretation and musicality.
He mean John Williams play the underline note so fast it does not mean much and I agree about that. John Williams is wellknown for being a speed and technique merchant without any feeling😂
Tavi Jinariu - the original version from Stanley Myers and your interpretation of this song are my favorites. Thank your for applying your dazzling gift to this nearly sacred melody. It brings peace to my soul and inspires me to want to become a better guitarist. Thank you, Sir.
Fantastic sound! This sounds like the way to go if you want a Hauser copy at a reasonable price. Of course, the guitar wouldn’t get to show its beauty of tone without the beautiful playing of the guitarist! Bravo!
The best rendition of this piece I've heard in ages. At first I thought the tempo was too slow but then I realised it sounded much better with a slower tempo, allowing each note to be heard clearly. Must re-learn this song again.
Just checking out all of the versions of this piece I can find on TH-cam and this one I'd place No2 behind John Williams.....amazing bell like tones... beautiful timing ...!! 🎶🙏🎶
I learned classical guitar between the ages of 9 and 12. Still love listening to it even though I no longer play. The organist played Cavatina at my uncle’s funeral last month and since then it seems to be showing up everywhere for me. This version, far from making me sad, brings me joy 🥹 My uncle was a farmer and hunter so the theme from the Deer Hunter seems a very fitting way to remember him. Thank you Tavi for sharing this 🙏
Very nice demo that totally allows one to hear all the beautiful tones this guitar can produce. Thank you Tavi Jinariu. Of all the nylon string guitars in this price range this guitar is my Dream Guitar that I may very well one day have as my own. Because of this demo I've come to realize this guitar is the tone I love. Cordoba guitars are very reasonably priced. Thank you also Cordoba Guitars for producing such Quality Guitars in an affordable price range.
Truly exquisite technique and wonderful phrasing - I particularly like the section around 1:25 to 1:30. So many players play this piece far too fast, the secret is to allow the melody to haunt you and take it slow. Look no further - this is perfection right here. I could play my guitar every day for the rest of my life and not even get close. Thank you for sharing
I loved your expression there 'body leaving the earth and ascending into heaven'. While this is a great piece, I have other music where I would apply your expression. :)
Bellissima interpretazione... intensa e scandita nelle note al punto giusto. Morbidissimo il tocco, accompagnato dal suono limpidissimo di questa splendida chitarra. Un classico magistralmente interpretato, complimenti!
Played this decades ago -cut emotionally ( always has ) - started steel ( gypsy jazz, and the more conventional pieces) - drifted into other instruments including ukulele with low G - rediscovered the immense value of creating orchestral values with classical/flamenco techniques (A merging classical right hand technique + high quality PC tools) - Now I'm older I have the technique and more emotional maturity to fully be aware of the varying ambiance present throughout this piece - the emotional nuances that make this a great piece with Tavi's playing is a breath of fresh air - notes clear, nuanced, distinct - when I start to imagine how subtle rubato can be hidden within the timing also - your playing gets close to the dream of purely emotional energy. - Thank you for the tears and desire to rediscover another world of music
Oh my goodness. I just got a C12 and love it dearly but the sound of this Hauser is astonishing. Very haunting and sweet with round trebles. Big respect to Cordoba.
I first heard this piece in the 1970s, and have heard it many times since, but I don't think I have ever heard it played so beautifully. Truly life enhancing.
It's more an upper intermediate level and would be standard repertoire for any professional classical guitarist. Tavi's performance and interpretation is first rate; a joy to listen to.
This is the most beautifully sensitive version I've heard: not cloying, but full of feeling. The guitar has such a balanced, sweet sound: Hauser had something, eh?
TaviJinariuGuitarist I always think that a hint of sadness is embedded in the music note of Cavatina. However, your presentation is vivid, lovely, and flawless. It's like you are telling the same tale in a bright positive way. Thanks for letting me know there is other way to treat this beautiful piece, this surely broadens my view on guitar music. Thanks again.
They are both great guitars with considerable strengths in their own categories. It really depends on your playing style and your repertoire. I connected more with the Torres guitar but was also impressed with Hauser's dynamic range.
I also wante to add one more thing, of all the versions of this most lovely song played on the classical guitar ( and I have listened to many wonderful artists ) this one is without a doubt my favorite and I think the best!
Hondo Stone I am so glad you are enjoying the recording. It is a lovely piece of music on a lovely guitar. The Hauser's dynamic range is quite something.
The best I've heard until now. Thanks for a beautiful version and a perfect finger-style and performance. I'm trying to do this melody myself on my guitar even if it's going to take months or a year of training. I will study this in slow motion here in on the Tube. Wish you could have been my teacher irl. Ceep on..... Joran Stockholm
believe or not, after watching so many youtube classical guitar videoes, I still recognise Tavi Jinariu produce the most sexy sound on classical guitar

Simply beautiful. Thank you Tavi.

When the highs come through like hammers on a bell, perfect in pitch, dynamic video.

I love this piece & enjoy playing on my Cordoba guitar also. This music has very good tone qualities. Thanks so much for playing.
The best Cavatina I have ever heard.Thank you for upload.

I really do not think one could play it better than that. Brilliant.
I agree. This is the most expressive and the best version.
What a joke
@@GuillermoElAlfil your life is one.
Such God given ability to communicate sublime emotion! The cadence, the touch brought me tears of enjoyment. Bravissimo!
I have been playing cavatina on my guitar for 3 years such a beautiful song, never seen any one emphasize on the melody like you did thanks Tavi.

So awesome. Love your interpretation of this piece. Not too fast but moves the melody along. The voicing is perfect.

I actually prefer Tavi’s timing to John Williams’ 😁

I need to add this in my Will instructions to play THIS SONG after God calls me home.
This the part I actually enjoy the most as a player because it allows me to relax lol.
Agree...he's not afraid to pause and it makes it better than Williams' approach, which is too mechanical.
A beautiful interpretation of Cavatina. Thank you.
I want this piece played at my memorial service. It is like the body leaving Earth and ascending into Heaven.
and then followed by Jim Chappell's "GONE"
tessie mcdonell I have about 8 pieces in the same category! Lol
I loved your expression there 'body leaving the earth and ascending into heaven'. While this is a great piece, I have other music where I would apply your expression. :)
I’m having Staying Alive by the Bee Gees
But suppose one goes elsewhere, then what do you play? Rap music I recon😝
This kind of playing is accomplished by years of dedication... and perfect guitar fingers!
Sublime
This is a piece that grabs your heart on your first listen.
So beautiful. Such a musical performance.

Lovely.
Tavi, the best rendition I have seen so far. Bravo!
What a guitar! You can really hear everything....
This is one of the best interpretations and performances of this piece that I've ever heard. Well done!
Beautiful talent, real music brings unity throughout the world and heals the spirit and body.

Very soothing, very nice guitar playing.

A wonderful performance of a contemporary classic that inspires one to purchase a fine instrument and start practicing!
Wow. Such a beautiful play.

Excellent Hauser type sound coming from this Cordoba.
I'd love to see Jerry Garcia do a version of this!

Extraordinaire! Après avoir entendu plusieurs interpretations de cette musique, celle-ci est celle que je préfère!

Nothing compares to that warmth, soft tone that the nilon string guitar produces!
