Afrobeat is purely Nigerian sound with major elements of the music or genre coming from the Yoruba traditional sounds, especially the Agidigbo. Even the Highlife,it is originally formed in Sierra leone and Liberia but was loudest in Ghana. Highlife spread to Ghana and Nigeria the same time from Sierra leone. And please stop comparing arts. Your arts are reflections of your societies and dynamics.

Ghana was taken unaware by Nigeria global acceptance and success in both entertainment, music and every other endeavors. Some years back, Ghana was the mouthpiece of telling the world how Nigerians are scammers, corrupt and sort of bad image., and survive by these narratives.

Because the name Ghana was borrowed from the ancient Ghana empire ( which was only located in the present day Mauritania and Mali)
Also their tricolour flag was borrowed/copied from Ethiopia!!

You must be lacking in knowledge about what you are ranting here if you think smaller population of a country makes it less economically viable than a country which has a relatively bigger population. For your information, out of the 250 million population in Nigeria, 133 million live in poverty, a number of poor people which is more than 4 times the total population of Ghana. Forget about even your so-called Lagos GDP being "higher" than the whole of Ghana's as your example, and let's talk about the horrible reality of the GDP of Nigeria as a country itself which stands at $2,513.00 against its 250 million population of 40.1% poverty rate, versus Ghana's which is $2101.00 GDP with a mere 33 million population and 24.2% poverty rate and you would realize that in real terms, Ghana is not your mate. Nigeria has a bigger landmass and population than Ghana, but is it better off economically in real comparative terms to the so-called smaller populated Ghana? No!! Ghana would always give the chaotic QUANTITY to Nigeria, but when it comes to organized QUALITY Ghana will always claim it hands down, no insults intended!! At the moment, mass movement from Nigeria to Ghana for retail space, education, security and better standard of living is on-going unabated, but the reverse is not the case, for a simple reason that Ghana is the better place to be between the two. Historically, Ghana stands taller in pan-Africanism, governance, security, social amenities etc.... even when it comes to Ghana's record in soccer relative to Nigeria, the latter does not come closer. Do not let Ghana's relative smaller geographic landmass and population fool you!!

Afrobeat is credited to Fela Anikulapo Kuti, a Nigerian, as the creator. But Mensah here claims it was created by Ghanaians. I grew up listening to highlife music and the dominance of the Ghanaians way back from the 50s and 60s; they were clearly the kings of highlife. There has never been a time when Ghanaian music was played more frequently than Nigerian music. While there was a period when Ghanaian music enjoyed popularity and was played, it was never to the extent of surpassing Nigerian music. It's important to clarify these facts. It is like comparing it to the current popularity of Afrobeat in the US doesn't mean Afrobeat is played more than Hip Hop; that would be inaccurate. The reality is that Ghanaian music lacks widespread international appeal and is predominantly limited to Ghana.

For a Ghanaian musician to get even 1m views is not easy but in Nigeria even people who are just curious to know about the song will be over 5m .

Population isn't a factor... it's a global economy. Jamaica with a population of roughly 2.6 million make massive wave and impact with raggae and dancehall, Puerto Rico with reggaeton... likewise Ghana isn't as big as Ethiopia ( But musically more popular) congo don't speak English but once ruled our musical space with rumba and soukous ...its about the packaging and savvy

Nigerian artist do good music, no doubt but Ghanaian artist equally do good and quality music just that Nigerians are intentional about their arts..secondly Nigerians promote and patronize their own music..Ghanaians on the other hand don’t promote and patronize our Ghanaian artists..typical example, I was in New York for a program, the program had Majority Nigerians, as soon as the DJ started playing Ghanaian songs, one Nigerian guy woke up and went straight to the DJ and told him to play Nigerian music only because the program is a Nigerian program..this is how bold the the Nigerian guy was..Nigerians already have a bigger population than Ghana, so why must Ghanaians use our small population to be pushing Nigeria music? It just doesn’t make sense..Ghanaians equally make good music just that Ghanaians don’t know how to promote and patronize our Ghanaian artists which makes it hard for them..#I support 100% Ghana music airplay

And while the word itself means MY LOVE in TWI or something like that, ODO YEWU is YORUBA for WHOOPING COUGH or TUBERCULOSIS hence the name of the Song By Kiss Danial, but then, each to their own understanding I guess

Till you stop comparing the big Nigeria over 180 million people to the 32 million ,lagos size ghana ..there will be unhealthy comparison ..Nigeria has a lot of cultures
..every state is different and diverse ...why are you worrying Ghana ..compare yourselves with China and congo ..that's fair ...Speaking same official language doesnt make us alike .....we are 2 different nations and different dynamics ...leaves us alone ......meanwhile Nigerians come here and feel at home ..we dont feel same in Nigeria..........
Ghana cannot be like Nigeria in anything .....we have our challenges same with Nigeria.....the ratio aint the same ..its unfair comparison .
But our youth are seeing the need to rise up ....the old folks have disappointed us .....we are very rich with selfish leaders with colonised minds ....unlike Nigeria who made colonisation impossible.....love to Nigeria n Ghana .
