- Patience is a virtue. Maybe you've heard that one before, but when it comes to getting the waves of your life, it's not just a cliché. Diehard surf traveler/journalist Matt Rode has spent years exploring and mapping the remote corners of the surfing world. This time, he invited fellow surfers Soli Bailey, Anne Dos Santos and Ian Crane to explore a beautiful, menacing right reef slab, with a lot more going on than it first appears. Seventy-two hours and four flights later, they'd beaten the swell into town...and the wait began. Until the last two days of the trip, when their patience paid off in the biggest and most glorious Maps challenge so far.
*Note: “Maps to Nowhere” is a series about how far surfers will go to ride perfect, empty waves. The spots you'll see in the series are not new discoveries, but they are perfect, empty, and remain undisclosed, because our belief is that the journey is at least half the fun - and sometimes, over half the travel time. The subtle "hints" in this series to where these spots could be are fantastic and makes me think they were purposely put in to chuck you a bone and send you into a google earth rabbit hole. I'd love to think they are put in to throw you off the scent completely and they have no relevance to the location of these waves atall, small details like that show a real passion for the craft! The split second shots of plane tickets, very specific travel times, or a half a restaurant name clearly just there to get you thinking, most likely in vain. love it!
Yep, they flipped the maps upside down too in order to throw people off the scent. But they didn’t cover all their tracks. I think I know where it is 😎

This is the best thing I’ve seen yet on any TH-cam channel. Give the Film crew, editors and of course athletes a freaking standing ovation. I hope Surfline knows they have a special thing going on here.
It was so amazing to see Anne, getting more comfortable with the wave. Looks so tricky to surf backside on that. The feeling she gets in the end is what makes me surfing today. Got me emotional here. Congratulations to her on conquering the wave and you guys for the amazing crew that you put together!

Is it just me or the second surf, when they turn up and show the sets coming through, and then when it shows them surfing, it looks like 2 completely separate days. Like the waves they were watching from the boat were way thicker and heavier, then when theyre surfing it's like fun with a few bigger waves but none of them had the thickness it showed from the boat. Maybe they waited for a while because it was too heavy to paddle?

There is a very curious sloth at 7:41, unless I am mistaken. It’s my understanding that they are only found in Central and South America, not too far from the equator. There is something that just doesn’t add up about this episode, though, as if they are filming in multiple locations. Wherever this is, it looks like paradise.
There's a solid clue in this video that narrows it down to one region. You'll have to watch again!

This is my guess too. Somewhere with two toed sloths. And those are really only in central/South America. It’s definitely tropical and likely an island since it took so long to get to from LA.

What's the point of hiding the location? Do you really think thousands will just go and destroy the beach that is located "4 days of travel"? I like the show but don't agree with all the secrecy, let others enjoy and don't try to be the "local gringo" at a beach tens of thousands miles away from home. Let others enjoy it too.
