Damn NYC was fun in these days. Taggin, wearing spike bracelets, Kangols, we still wore permanent creases, wave stocking caps, boom boxes, fat boy shoelaces and dancefloors made of cardboard. There will never be another time like this - it was so rich - every day was an absolute adventure. If you're reading this - you made it through all that and you know this is historical!
Yeah mate. Love reading of fellow B boys who were part of the scene at the same times as myself. Ohh yes some spray paint a piece of Lino Good ghetto blaster. Some electro and good to go The days spent practicing them moves. Took forever to learn a new move and engage in to your own style. Was fit as fuck I can tell you Still partial to letting out a few choice popin moves. Though my breaking days are over 🤪 The passion never dies though So what’s that I hear coming on the boom box ?? Ahh Arthur Bakers Breakers Revenge 🔊 Make way Coming through 🔊 Ohh yess ✨
Man, this track was big in England, too. I was a teenager at the time. Sergio Tacchini tracksuits etc. kangol hats were hard for us to get hold of, we made do with baseball hats.
I was record shopping in the Lower East Side in 2005, on a visit from London. I bought a few tunes, and asked about this one. The owner of the shop I was in said he thought he had a copy in the basement. He came back and said “Here, it’s a bit dusty and needs a clean, so just gimme $5, man.” I explained that I’d been after a copy since I was a teenager (I was 35 at the time) and told him that he’d made my holiday for me. I’d have swum to New York for this record.
They had everything on NYC when it came to records. I went nuts when I first visited Vinyl Mania 2nd. shop in the upper west side. Had records all the way up to the ceiling and they had one of those sliding ladders. I think I walked from 42nd. bc I didn’t know the bus routes. But it was all work it and back then it was $3.99 for a domestic 12”. Thanks for sharing your story and back then I would go out of my way to find my records.
Pure dance music. So ahead of it's time. You can drop this in a set today and kiddies will still lose their minds even though they have no idea what it is.
When you were that 13 yr old kid and breaking/pop locking was the scene your heart raced tryna keep up with the other/better dancers... what a time to have been alive.
Yo. This is jam is one of many incredible songs of the mid 80s in the middle of a nervous decade of crack..aids..and out of the ashes came hip - hop..Michael Jordan..the Thiller Michael Jackson..George town Hoyas crazy ass decade everybody didn't make it out alive now 2020
I was today years old when I found out via the Questlove Supreme podcast that Marley Marl did this version of the song! Actually I didn’t even know there was a regular vocal version cuz this was the only one I every heard played. 😅 That drop at 3:07 still kills.
Certified Nosferatu classic

You are on point, although I was across the water in Jersey. 1980's, I wish I could go back.

An interview with Marley marl on quest love supreme brought me here. This was made by him.
I remember this when it came out -174 Street BX, NYC Breakers
I remember when this song came out, every one I knew was riding down the streets with the speakers turned all the way up blasting this...
That's it?

Oh and loved when Larry Levan played 2 copies and had it going on. 🔥
Now this is the version me and all the groovers and breakers played in the 80's ! Deejays used to loop and flash the hell out that opening drop!
I came to this through Electro 5. This and Egypt Egypt have remained huge favourites.
Got "Get Loose" on 12" much later. Cracking.
Me too. The Mix leading to Release yourself from Captain Rock is the first mix I ever heard. Still sounds amazing.
Yep, same here, still dope
Same. Those albums were amazing, still have all mine. Electro 3 and 5 were my favourites.
