I picked up this Saturn from Buyee many many months ago and its been sat in the corner. Admittedly, the Saturn seemed to pass me by at the time, but I figure it would be nice to know if it lives!

I installed a new laser today and it's not spinning. I de soldered the bridge. Put the old laser back in and it spins fine. Tried new one again and same issue. Just jutters a few times and stops. Any ideas anyone.
very typical fix for these. they usually just need the laser manually adjusted
Just got an ODE instead of repairing the drive.
You should be able to use an audio CD to test the drive.

If you could do one on a Dreamcast that spins too fast (and never loads) that would be great! Although that said I've given up trying to fix it and ordered a GDEMU now haha

It has a similar broad layout like the Dreamcast. Which makes it more simplistic when it comes to trouble shooting, repairing, or hardware modifications.
Great insight to this, just be aware that the trimmer is most likely driver current to the laser diode. Don't tweak more than you have to, otherwise, it shortens the life of what is a well-used diode with lots of hours on it. Love your channel keep it up. 👍Perth AU

Maybe it's burning out, so you're boosting its output to make up for it going dimmer? either that or corrosion on the trim pot which was fixed by tweaking it?
@@backofficeshow The JVC laser pickups they use in these are cheap enough (£5 from China).
Not worth messing with the pot, they invariably are unreliable once they start to go
I have a question about the rusty-looking dots I tried to wipe them with alcohol but they didn't disappear I tried to scrub them but it didn't look good should I just let them be or is it important to get rid of them
Phone cameras can be used to check IR LEDs.

I was cleaning my sega saturn and now my discs don't spin :( I don't think the drive is broken, I think I just fucked up and knocked something out of place :( I hope this works or I'm gonna cry

I'm gonna cry. I twiddled... something. I don't know. It didn't work. Never open your consoles kids, you're not this guy, you're just gonna break something.
Did you get to twiddle anything or irs just a random knock?
I literally cannot get anything spinning at all. It was working just before I opened up the case. Stopped working once I opened up. Hasn't worked since. Don't know what to "twiddle", I don't even know what that means :( I turned something. That didn't really do anything. Dont know what to turn though.
I was just about to give my Saturn to my best friend too, fuck man just my luck for trying to be responsible and do maintenance on the thing before switching hands
There is a switch that stops it from spinning when the door is open, you will need to close that to get it to do anything if the lid is off
My Sega saturn drive, the optical gear was broken, any sugestion for replace the gear with same teeth?
Oh that's super tricky. I would try to measure the diameter and try to calculate he number of teeth.
I just got one that doesnt read discs. I turned that pot as far clockwise as it will go. The disc now starts to spin but only for a couple seconds. Is replacing the laser the next step or is there another adjustment somewhere?
I'm having the same problem and it's looking like that's the only option
@@josereyeshero I swapped the laser and that fixed it. Sold to a friend and they have had no issues so far.
