Couldn't agree more, that decision to go for it on 4th and 2 up 14 was the momentum shift that turned the whole game around. The one problem I had with Lamar demanding his money, and the bandwagoneers talking about why teams aren’t lined up at the door to pick up his huge contract is that HE IS NOT CLUTCH. There’s a reason he only has one playoff win. He’s a front runner like Dak. They can’t do what Mahommes and Brady can do when the plan goes to sh*t. Lamar isn’t even doing what Brock did the last 2 weeks. I was pulling for the Ravens to beat the Chiefs but I knew the game was lost at the half, once I saw the Chiefs defense man-handle the Ravens run game.
Adding to the players melting down point with Purdy. Josh Allen is the exact player that would melt down in the position the 49ers were in at the half.
Yes defense collapsing in 13 seconds after Allen having two 80 yard TD drives in the final 2 mins is him melting down. Every Bills loss this year Allen s last drive always either put them in the lead or a position to tie the game. The fact is If Allen was on 49ers they wouldn’t have been down that much to begin with 😂
I feel for Jared Goff. Thought he played really well. I hate nothing more than armchair quarterbacking, but I really feel that Campbell should of taken the points on those two missed fourth down conversions. It’s just like analytics in baseball during the postseason. It’s just a different game. This isn’t week 4 where you’re trying to set the tone and identity of your team. Take the emotion out of it. Take the points.
Nick Wright(Actually he should change his last name to Wrong) will have a real shock when 49ers will top Chiefs in the Part II of SB saga. These Purdy haters will be silenced!!
Silverdome John. I'm less upset with Dan's aggressiveness than I am with Purdy picking up like 6 first downs running because nobody covered the middle of the field.
I'm Lamar critic but tonight I truly felt bad for him. Lamar played bad but flowers sank that game. The Ravens made the number one mistake a lot of teams make. They got to the playoffs and stopped doing what got them there. The Chiefs gave them every chance too win. They score like 0 points in the second half smh. This was Lamars moment. Damn smh
14:12 this is why I’ll always defend lamar and why I think the conversation on him is skewed. He loses one time against Patty in the afc championship now we can’t believe in him against championship teams but we can believe in Allen? The same guy who has lost 3 straight playoff games to mahomes and got smoked by burrow at home who then lost to a hobbled mahomes? The Allen praise compared to the lamar skepticism just is so inconsistent
Why do you guys keeping thinking that is hate? I’m not hearing any hate from John on Purdy. Criticism on Purdy’s struggles didn’t sound more emphasized vs his clutch play especially in the 2nd half and those scrambles for 49 yds. Sensitivity to Purdy critiques are wayyyy too high. No need to overcompensate for the unfair legit hate Purdy gets. John isn’t one of those
Ok quick follow up 😄 I just listened to part of Colin + John’s recap and that felt like legit Purdy hate by Colin. John probably holding back a little to not argue with Colin but yikes…

Also just to say your equipment set up is excellent and I wondered what Camera setup you are using ?.... you need to get Colin to upgrade his as the split screen on the Volume video was much better quality on your feed 👍
Yea it took all of 1 drive to understand that the Chiefs were not gonna be losing that game. And that Lamar was totally in his own fcking head about everything. That absolutely atrocious pick where he throws into triple coverage(under throws it too boot), it was just sickening. The dude would have NEVER EVER even thought about throwing that ball on any other day. But the thought of losing that game and hearing all the 'he cant win big games' bs, it got to him big time. I Felt really bad for him.
I don't. For as little as that organization has accomplished, their fans and team get brash and cocky every time they have a little success. They pulled the same crap in 2011 when they had a glimmer of success.
@@jmill3147 I don't know what you're going on about. Lions fans haven't had anything to boast about for the last three decades. The team was finally good this year. They won two playoff games and you mad at the fans for being boastful and feeling themselves? The team and fans had every right to be cocky and brash. GTFOH 🤡
It's shown by the fact he always defers the ball when he wins the opening coin toss. He believes in starting with the ball in the 2nd half means you can build and roll with 2nd half momentum to the end of the game.
I find it funny that you say purdy threw a terrible pass to Aiuk and he got lucky, the DB was holding Aiuk that is why he was behind him, they did get lucky that the DB can't catch, but the REF were going to call PI on the DB, But picked it up because Aiuk caught the ball.
When you give a good QB enough chances to come back, eventually they'll make the plays.....And that's what Purdy is, a good QB thst was gifted opportunities bc Dan Campbell gave San Francisco new momentum.
Campbell pissed away the opportunity of a lifetime (literally) by coaching like a meathead playing Madden. But hey Lions fans, you got the culture right?
It was the right decision by Dan when they went for it on forth down and made a TD. But, when it did not work out it was the wrong one? You gotta take the good with the bad. If you cheer for the aggressiveness you gotta know it will work sometimes, and not other times.
As a cubs fan, the killer moment is the compounding of a bad decision with bad luck. The decision to go for it on 4th instead of taking a 3 possession was a mistake. But, the incredible luck thr 49ers had with a doink off the helmet is what infected the game with "ahhh, there are the lions." People forget, after the bartman play in '03, that was followed up wit the cubs sevon baseman missing an easy defensive stop when the ball rolled through his legs. Like then, the feeling the lions were cursed set in after the doink
welp it's to the 49ers now to stop the Chiefs. Not much faith they'll do it though, they've survived off of their playoff opponents mistakes and KC won't make any. What a lame way to end what was an awesome season.
The drops & turnovers is really what did in the Lions ... much more than Campbell's "go for it" decisions. However I agree with John; Dan Campbell should of chose differently... and John said that in the context of considering the situation you're in.
Dan Campbell and the Lions. Brandon Staley and the Chargers. Two separate examples where teams made aggressive 4th down decisions their identity. Yes, undoubtedly the Campbell is a far better coach than Staley but both suffered the cost of recklessness. 4th down decisions are situational, not meant to be a team's calling card
If you have the momentum and kick the FG you retain it….go for it in 4th and miss, you hand them the momentum. They then will score and have more momentum they can build on…. Niners too good if you let them hang around (Two vs three scores).
This SB is a match up of the two best QBs. Jackson & Allen are not in the same class as Purdy. If you subbed out Purdy @ halftime with Lamar & Josh SF losses that game & it’s not even close !
😂😂😂 stop it. Purdy is good. He's still not the best or in the teir of the best no matter how much SF wanna pretend like he is. GB Choked. And Detroit Coached their way out of a win. Purdy is a good, above average QB with a genius game caller and incredible people around him who when everything is going good, he does good..... And 1st half, it wasn't going good and he shrunk, 2nd half, Dan Campbell gave them opportunities and he finally woke up, the scrambling was the best part of his game yesterday. Some of the passes he got very lucky...... But he's still not by any means the 2nd best QB.
Giants ripped KCs heart out in '14 when the royals had Alex Gordon on 3rd with one out to go in the 9th.. down 1 in the world series. We had to wait for the mets in 2015. 🎉
Mahomes is a another level from all these current QBs. This is his weakest team & he ran thru Allen & Lamar. 49ers need to take this guy seriously in the SB.
You know, I hate to admit it (because I don’t like anything about the 9ers other than CMC), but Brock has a little bit of that magic in him.. that’s the stuff you need to beat a Mahomes, because that’s his greatest attribute too.. Mahomes just has the talent and experience to go with it, so I’d still bet on him winning……. BUT Purdy has a puncher’s chance because of the magic element.. If Mahomes is Brady, Purdy might be Eli.. should be interesting.. good luck!
Great show! Inciteful! Fran Brockenton! Running by the sf, qb, and movement outside the pocket, improvising, throwing on the run, carried SF to victory. Can't play, win, from behind? Can't play off script? That's not what I'm seeing! But, like when a big silver glowing disk, floats above your car, some folks see a sphere, some see jesus, the govt. Sees swamp gas, I see Brock purdy, off script, doing things like past 49ers, qbs, making something, outta dogschmitt! When the genius coach's plan fails, purdy, wins, lamar, loses, josh allen, loses.....etc
@@VanIsland69er Or maybe it's a joke and you should just move on with your life. Also, I almost had an aneurysm trying to comprehend your awful grammar.
To me, that’s made possible by not taking easy field goals.. the players get tight when they see their fearless leader miscalculate.. then they make uncharacteristic mistakes (on offense and defense).. Given the lions history (and 9ers talent), they had to fake it til they made it.. not kicking those field goals was a sign of a team that couldn’t accept that they had the game in hand and they were definitely going to the super bowl.. and not converting gave the 9ers just enough time to remember that they were the better team..
As a lifelong 49ers fan, I was pretty confident that we'd get to the SB but the one person I didn't want to see was Mahomes. As history has shown us, the better QB playing almost always wins the SB. And Mahomes might be one of the best ever. Either way, Purdy has had an excellent season, and still has two years before an extension would kick in, so a loss wouldn't be a complete failure. In fact, Purdy's best chance might be next year (more experience and a lot of the same talent) which has been my guess for quite some time. Should be a great game but let's stop complaining about Brock Purdy hate. People arguing where Purdy is ranked in the top 10 isn't hate. It's called debate and opinion. 😂
Great pick John. Love the show but you couldn't see the forest for the trees. KC's D has dominated every team this year. You pair that with a HOF HC and a HOF QB and it's over. There's no way to beat that. Brady's Pats were the blueprint and Veach knew it.
Not disrespected, I’d say questioned though.. before now, that is.. you do some sh like that in the NFCCG and people start to form their opinions of you.. from what I saw, it was less about “he can’t do it” and more about “I don’t know if this kid can do it” (I was one of them). now he did it.. and it was clear after a couple of those runs and plays that he made (outside of the system), hell yea, the kid just might be a baller.. but those opportunities weren’t really there before these last 2 games, imo.. when he got ‘em, he took em.. hats off to him.. and yea, you’re still gonna hear, “let’s see if he can do it again next year” until he does it.. a little like Hurts last year (turns out, he has more to prove).. but that’s the nature of sports and being a QB

Not even 2 years as a NFL starter. Last pick. Unreal if u think about it
The one problem I had with Lamar demanding his money, and the bandwagoneers talking about why teams aren’t lined up at the door to pick up his huge contract is that HE IS NOT CLUTCH.
The fact is If Allen was on 49ers they wouldn’t have been down that much to begin with 😂
Luv this pod, might be my new fav pod.
Also, Baltimore wanted to intimidate kc but forgot they play the raiders twice a year(and win). They aren't afraid of cheap shots and big talks.
Lost at home to the Raiders this year lol
@jayce1437 who cares when you're going to the superbowl?!?
@jayce1437 mahomes is 10-2 vs the raiders lol. And now 4-1 against the ravens.
Niners can’t come back. U know Nick Wright had to be in shock. Two come backs in the playoffs and now in the SB. Go NINERS
Nick Wright(Actually he should change his last name to Wrong) will have a real shock when 49ers will top Chiefs in the Part II of SB saga. These Purdy haters will be silenced!!
@@NNH2012 Brock is going to break the internet. He was great today but in the second half wow. Running like Pat for first downs and getting it done.
Lol 9ers might ad well forfeit
@@DavidECoywon't happen in the bowl against the number 1 defense. How bout those Chiefs
Bc they shouldn't lol Dan Campbell gave San Francisco that game by not taking the FG, momentum changes, momentum is real.
Silverdome John. I'm less upset with Dan's aggressiveness than I am with Purdy picking up like 6 first downs running because nobody covered the middle of the field.
Non tackling Alex Azalone.
Spaggs called masterful game
Still hating purdy… somehow I’m not surprised
You saying that you don’t nitpick against Brock is laughable 😂 go watch the tape again my guy
Lamar froze under the lights….AGAIN!!!
Let’s stop acting like both 4th downs weren’t great plays where the receiver dropped 2 well thrown balls
Brock is absolutely magic, anyone who has watched the 49ers play this season knows the 49ers go as far as Purdy takes them! Huge f+++ u to all media by BP13
Loving your analysis John and I've just subscribed after watching your excellent Volume video with Colin.
Ravens panicked and didnt play their game...37 passes and 16 runs. That's not Ravens football.
Facts
Sad for lions fans they had to watch them choke that away like that. After so much heartbreak I feel for em
GTFOH 🤡
Not after that cheap shot on Deebo!
The blame is on Dan Campbell. His arrogance cost The Lions a trip to the Super Bowl. Fire him
You bet against Mahomes, Reid and the Chiefs at your own peril.
Purdy will still be disrespected especially on ESPN
Anyone who has watched the Niners under Kyle, knows that Shanahan believes in momentum.
It's shown by the fact he always defers the ball when he wins the opening coin toss. He believes in starting with the ball in the 2nd half means you can build and roll with 2nd half momentum to the end of the game.
Purdy’s game QBR was right there with Mahomes. 2nd of the 4 QBs.
Andy Shutdown Mahomes in the 2nd Half, and I Hated it.
Today was their apex. I doubt the Lions sniff another NFCCG.
I think the defense helped with that loss in the 2nd half.
RBs Gibbs and Montgomery weren’t being touched until they reached the second level. Something is seriously wrong with this defense.
It was the right decision by Dan when they went for it on forth down and made a TD. But, when it did not work out it was the wrong one? You gotta take the good with the bad. If you cheer for the aggressiveness you gotta know it will work sometimes, and not other times.
Yep he wanted to kill the game off.
Damn Lions
Sorry but Colin is a 🤡
You're talking about him, and that's all the matters in the media game.
@@prasad530100%. Engagement is King
Get Wilks out of SF
You think they aren't going to ? 9ers also gonna blow them out
You know, I hate to admit it (because I don’t like anything about the 9ers other than CMC), but Brock has a little bit of that magic in him.. that’s the stuff you need to beat a Mahomes, because that’s his greatest attribute too.. Mahomes just has the talent and experience to go with it, so I’d still bet on him winning……. BUT Purdy has a puncher’s chance because of the magic element..
If Mahomes is Brady, Purdy might be Eli.. should be interesting.. good luck!
I really hope Brock beats Mahomes
Great show!
As a 49ers fan I’m beyond happy! If I was a Lions executive, I’d fire Dan Campbell and promote Ben Johnson.
Bro chiefs got shutout 2nd half
But they still won the game and now their heading back to the Superbowl to become back to back world champions
Don’t call it a comeback!😂Go 9ers!
Was it not a comeback? Or was it more of a choke job?
@@TheCephalon A real come back needs a 55 points differential.
Could they have not kicked a field goal on one of not both 4th downs?
I would wear a tshirt and a backwards hat to a wedding.
Can anyone talk about how bad Kyle’s play calling has been the last two games? Gets away from the run, and no quick plays for beating the blitz
Still gotta state….
Jared Goff played a good game….needs to be mentioned, damn WR dropped ball.
The 49ers are -1.5 favorites for the SB.... lmao, they never learn do they. Go Chiefs!
WTF? Purdy is the reason why 49ers won
WTF?
Move them goal post..it’s DAN’s fault Purdy perform..join the ban wagon JM
That 50 bomb wasn't overthrown. Watch the DB stop & which stops Ayuik. Ayuik keeps moving he's going to be under that throw.
the important question is “ is Stucky okay?”
No matter what anybody says, a team can make mistakes but if ur team doesnt capitalize on those mistakes it doesnt matter. 49ers won that game.
Don't let Colin hear you say that there's a time to wear a backwards hat. You'll get kicked right off his podcast network.
If you’ve listened to Colin, he said it once and it got some much attention that he know overdoes it with a bit because of reactions like yours
@@VanIsland69er Or maybe it's a joke and you should just move on with your life. Also, I almost had an aneurysm trying to comprehend your awful grammar.
Going for it on 4th down didn't lose them the game. Giving up 27 points in the second half is what lost them the game.
Sam Monson & Steve Palazzolo at PFF had smarter takes on Campbell's choices.
I called this 9ers Lions game 3 days ago. I said Campbell will lose this game by not taking field goals.
Wish they could replace Wilks before the Super Bowl
You’r a great commentator!
Great pick John. Love the show but you couldn't see the forest for the trees.
KC's D has dominated every team this year. You pair that with a HOF HC and a HOF QB and it's over. There's no way to beat that. Brady's Pats were the blueprint and Veach knew it.
Purdy gets disrespected by people that don’t understand QB play.
He’s a playmaker. Period
An that includes an actual qb in Cam Newton
