em and rem are both relative to the default font-size but the diff between them is that em can change for example if a text is inside a border then the default font-size is gonna be relative to the border's not to the HTML's but rem will NEVER change it's gonna be always loyal(literally) to the HTML default font-size , hope this will give a better vision about the diff between them .
